Lucky Penny Cafe

Love this place! I used to live and work on Pac Ave and would get a bi bim bap once a week from Penny. I moved and changed jobs so I haven’t been here in a while. Found myself in the area and am so pleased that Lucky Penny is still up and running!

Little hidden gem located inside a building. Lovely owner, her fried rice is delicious! I got the combo with everything in it. It had chicken, shrimps, and bacon in it with a huge egg on top. The portion is huge so the leftover will take care of my lunch ☺. I’m definitely combing back!

Really enjoyed our breakfast sandwiches and coffee here at this locally owned cafe! The service was excellent and fast. It was fun to sit for a while in this historic building (there are a few tables but no public restrooms).

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Tacoma! If you’re looking for a great breakfast or lunch, this is it. It’s located downtown on the corner of 11th and Pacific. The menu has a lot of options; everything from coffee, smoothies, sandwiches, and even some delicious traditional Korean dishes. I recommend trying the bibimbap–it’s AMAZING! The service is great, too. Penny is so sweet, and always remembers my order. The atmosphere is very welcoming. There’s plenty of seating if you’re dining in, but you can also order your food to-go. I’ve never had to wait long for my food and it’s less expensive than other places in the area. If you work or live in the area, you should definitely visit Lucky Penny Cafe!

I came here all the time in high school, and the lady who runs the shop is actually one of the sweetest people I've met. I'm not the most social customer, but she always remembered me and would chat with me. It's rare to find a place like this where I felt taken care of, even though I know I'm just one face out of so many she'll see in a day.

Beautiful little Cafe, the lady Penny is so nice and you can tell she enjoys what she does in the Cafe. I for one will definitely be coming back next time I'm out in tacoma. (Photo of omafryed rice)

Such a cute place! We ordered some food and it was delicious. Service was great. The building has a few tables and chairs inside, so we sat there and the food was brought to us.

If you have time to wander around in the morning like me, this place is good. I bought a white chocolate mocha, a fried rice portion which I can eat a bit in the morning and save the rest for lunch in the office. Like other people mentioned, they don’t have labors, so if you don’t want to wait then order and go for a walk or on the phone about 10mins then come back to pick up your hot food. My food is yummy

Very quaint little cafe that always has great food and high quality coffee. Family owned kinda place that also offers some traditional Korean food!

Mrs. Penny is a wonderful lady. Treat her with respect and you'll be treated in kind. If she gives you a suggestion, take it and eat it with Gusto! She has never steered me wrong.

We parked on Commerce Street and failed to find any place open for lunch-seems lots of places closed on an April Monday. Using Google we see that Lucky Penny is open. It's on the Chamber of Commerce building. Plenty of choice and you sit in the lobby next to the lifts. A really interesting building. Excellent food.

Delicious food, perfect spot if you work downtown or are in for a visit. I had the Gogi wrap and it was fantastic. The woman working behind the counter was a gem, so welcoming!

Just had lunch there with my family, we ordered the chicken sandwich on wheat bread and two orders of bi bim bap. Delicious!!!! I am stuffed and happy. The lady which im assuming was the owner educated us on how to properly eat the dish.

Me and my wife had amazing experience. The lady was so cute and the guy work there was extremely helpful they even gave us complimentary mocha. The chicken fried rice was amazing and latte and chai latte was perfect!! Everything was perfect. The lady i wish i know her name was beyond great

This place makes great fried rice. Didn't know what to expect at first and asked for extra soy sauce to-go. I was given the sause but with a stern warning to try it first and not to "ruin" her fried rice. Well she was right, no extra soy needed, flavor was awesome and it comes with a thin fried egg right on top. Very tasty and I'll be back next time I need lunch in Tacoma

Delicious, quick and satisfying lunch. Bibimbap is a specialty dish of rice, kimchee, meat, veggies, sauce with a fried egg on top. You mix it all together and yum! Nice folks too, I will be back.

Once again, found a gem. This was exactly the café I needed. I got the breakfast BLT, which was the best BLT I've had in a minute. Excellent service and ambiance - especially given the seating area is the building lobby. It was easy to work and the building itself has old town brass accents which transported me to a different time. The owner is kind, down to earth, and wonderful. I couldn't be more satisfied or pleased. Thank you!

I love this place! This is my regular lunchtime spot. The bulgogi wrap is my favorite! If I end up not working downtown, eating lunch from here will be the thing I miss the most. Amazing food and fantastic customer service all the time. 10/10 recommend checking this place out.

My family and I are on vacation from NY. We looked up where to go for breakfast and this small spot popped up. I’m so glad we stayed , IT WAS AMAZING! delicious food and the woman, Penny, was great.
