I don’t usually leave hotel reviews, but this one stands out as one of the better places for business travelers in the area around San Mateo, Palo Alto, and Redwood City. There are a lot of solid alternatives, but this one has the advantage of being a gorgeous, sprawling older format Marriott with a completely remodeled interior.

The M club is also very nice. The entire property is very clean. Parking is easy. The restaurants on site are solid. The hotel itself is very easy to find and somehow manages to be very quiet despite being right next to the 101 freeway. You can open your windows without hearing much of any noise outside.

This is a better Marriott property than the one over on Bayshore.

Heads up: On at least one occasion, this Marriott somehow lost my reservation. It took some scrambling to correct the situation. They may be prone to accidentally overbooking so you may want to call to verify your reservation a day or two before you arrive.

Every single staff member was incredibly nice and helpful. They were friendly and were able to quickly find what I needed or perform a service.
My stay was a pleasure.
(One thing, though, they were under staffed in every department. This may be an industry wide problem)

Stayed in the 1 bedroom suite at this location. Room and service was great! My child got sick while staying there so I requested an extra hour for check out so that I could rest a bit more. The hotel accommodated my request despite being overbooked. Thank you to the staff and will plan to stay here whenever we are in SFO.

***Update***

I'm bumping it up to 5 stars. Don't think for a second I haven't noticed the change in the menu! Wow, it's a great change. My notes below were heard apparently.

He got the chimichurri steak, I got the fish & steak tacos, kids got the carnitas and steak tacos, and we all split the fried Brussels.

Everything was delish and it was a great change up.

So much so, that I think we might make this our permanent date night spot. I can't wait to try all the other things on the menu!!

Thrilled. That is all! ❤

***********
I'm only reviewing the bar. GM this notes for you:

Bartenders are great.
Ambience is 9/10 (lower lighting and finally getting that damn roof fixed/repaired after the leak you had 6+ months ago needs to happen)
Drinks are great.

The food is a shame. It's a shame.

Get a better menu. When your lobby is packed and you know it's gonna be packed: don't close your kitchen at 10pm. It's not a smart biz decision.

Menu ideas:
Get a better burger (no frozen, no coagulation on the cheese)
Get tacos goin (easy, slow cooker the pork, fry some fish, marinade and chop chicken; everyone loves good tacos)
Get real nachos. Meat, chips, beans, jalapeƱos, crumbled cotija or queso fresco (don't do the nacho cheese, don't do american sour cream)
Spinach artichoke or other hot dip. Again, top seller
Charcuterie boards (get creative and offer a sweet n savory one)
Cobb or farmers salad (beets/goat cheese) or watermelon salad in the summer (check out your competition, like the old sofitel in rwc, they really kill it on the bar food).
Truffle fries (please get a better air fryer or dep fryer etc. Whatever is going on the fries are floppy n not fresh tasting)

I come here often, but we always leave to get food at lazy dog bc the food here is SO bad. I can't pay for that kinda food. But the bars great.

Close enough to the airport to make it n easy drive/commute but far enough away to feel like you aren't next to the airport.

My family and I stayed here for the first time on the 12th of Oct. For 2 days. Family was already stressed with our delayed flight everyone was tired we got in after midnight and from when we walked in we were greeted by Martina as soon as we walked in she was sooo very kind to my whole family the way she handled everything was amazing and she smiled the whole time even though I could tell that she knew we were just tired and stressed out she kept it calm with us and our moods all changed thanks to her. Another employee was Anthony our family was there for a funeral everything was running behind on time and he automatically knew that we needed help he gave is a late Check out for both rooms even though I did a last min request he still accommodated us and one thing he said was go to the funeral take your time everything here will be OK don't worry about your things it's safe here....we left and came back took our time gathering everything together and checked out...to have employees like these 2 will definitely keep bringing guest back we sure are one of them....Give these 2 a raise with their customer service and professionalism they Def deserve it.!

It's not really an airport hotel and about $40 in Uber fees away from the airport. However it's one of the nicest Marriotts around with a great bar and a decent meeting bar. Huge size when compared to the average Marriott. Average rooms. Very clean.

Clean and comfy and spacious rooms. Snack bar closes early and can't buy food late at night. Bar closes late. They allow pets which i don't agree to. If you arrive late, it is hard to find parking. Pillows are too soft. Bed is comfortable.

This place was clean, the staff was pleasant and friendly and it was all around an excellent experience. They were understaffed the day we came, however we were still blown away by everything here. The view and the rooms are amazing. Beds are comfy, the restaurant was clean, everything was near perfect. Wait times were a little more than usual but that's no fault of the staff here.

I thank the whole team here for making our vacation a great experience 🙂

I love this place! It is like home away from home but with Marriott level luxury. The staff are so courteous friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful. I will be staying here again whenever I need to be in the area which is going to be often since I'm building a new business and network. Thank you to all the wonderful staff here from the pleasant and professional housekeeping staff, the front desk, the red stack cafe and market, the bar, and the delicious food from craft and code.

Came out for a family wedding. Breakfast there was bomb and so beautiful.everything was very clean. I will say though everything was bit expensive 2 Gatorades an 2 bottles of water where $24. We just went up the street to 711 location made it easy to go to Target's shopping centers so that everything's away from the hotel.

Amazing amenities. Great location. Awesome stuff. Delicious breakfast. Family-friendly. Clean rooms.
Everyone was very helpful. We were lucky enough to be there while they were hosting weddings. Great entertainment for all of our families. We were guests of one of the couples exchanging vows. Which made it more special for all of us. All you can eat breakfast buffet was delicious worthy every penny. Also their waitress was friendly welcoming and helpful. Very clean and well decorated.

We stayed for a week, we enjoyed our day with this hotel. Very clean, busy, organized. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I like the location, not far from the airport, car rentals, and not far from shopping center and 711. They also have a convenience store in the hotel.

Just stayed for 2 nights and the customer service at this hotel is unbeatable! Craig checked us in and was super professional, polite and amicable. I wish I knew the names of both gentlemen who worked at the market because they were so polite and we kept talking about how crazy their jobs were because the restaurant is closed and they have to heat every sandwich and make every coffee order, while manning the market. They do it with a smile and friendly chat. It’s clear the hotel is limited capacity, and limited services as they open up more, but you’d never know because the employees treat their guests like royalty. This is a fantastic hotel, highly recommend!

This is one of the most thoughtful hotels I've stayed at. Every detail has been considered and through the harshness of the pandemic they are continually seeking ways to take care of their guest. The front desk rockstars: Elizabeth, Martin, and Tony went above and beyond with addressing all my questions, requests and concerns. They tell you how it is and recommend the right room type for your budget and space expectations. When choosing a regular 1 hotel room, consider the size and upgrade yourself to a one bedroom suite. The price differential is worth it. Their breakfast and dinner options are very reasonable. Hotels can charge a lot, but the crew here chose only to charge $20 for a very filling, well cooked and delicious 3 egg omelet, with potatoes and toast. For dinner they only charge $14 for a tuna salad; it is light, fresh and satisfying. Yes, parking cost $30/night because it a gated and supervised lot, I felt it was worth the safety of my car. It also seems pretty normal to pay around $30 for parking around these parts. House keeping and the grounds crew are constantly cleaning up after the guest. The hot tub is tucked away so the evening winds don't effect it. The pool is a decent size and depth to get a swim in for the little ones while standing as an adult (from what I saw). The hotel itself is huge and the rooms are spaced far enough apart to give you the feeling that you might be the only people staying there. Lastly, the physical location is close to a Trader Joe's, a Whole Foods, a Peets, many delicious restaurants, the 101, the 92, makes attacking the Bay Area very feasible. If you are reading a review to see where you'd like to stay, as a stay-cation in the Bay Area, a visit to SF Area or coming for a business function, stay HERE.

Wow, not sure if the hotel is renovated, but it looks great. Beds are comfortable, staff is friendly, and the location is convenient from highway access. Was there for a business meeting and hope to be back soon. Good job! Am there a year later and still great.....

Having grown up in San Mateo, I remember when they had built this place but then, known as The Royal Coach. It had an old English medieval theme, and as a kid, it was a kick to go to. My mom and dad had their 25th Wedding Anniversary party there, so I have wonderful warm memories. My mom's anniversary passing was Sunday 3/28, so I got a room here Saturday night so I could wake up early morning and place flowers on her grave being I live out of town. The days of its medieval theme are long gone, but the front desk staff was kind and even listened to my story of my mom and dad's wedding anniversary. The gentleman behind the desk (whose name I can't remember but great guy) stated that they have heard many stories like mine. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and couldn't ask more than that. One can always tell older hotels by the very large hallways which of course this had. Clean, nice staff, and one can't ask for more than that.
