B Street Books

A hidden gem tucked in the downtown of San Mateo. Our family love visiting here whenever we go dining in the area and everyone gets to find something to bring home with. They have very extensive collection of all the genre you can think of. The owner is pretty laid back and friendly, you can just get lost in the piles of books as long as you wish. A must visit for book lovers!

This is such a wonderful bookshop. I have found many rare and used books there that are now treasured parts of my personal library. I have always found the owner and his employees to be very kind, helpful, and interested.

I was passing by and saw this store. Wonderful place for books. Very organized and has lots of books with a variety of categories. Highly recommend it for book lovers.

A well organized and broad (read as 'eclectic' if you prefer that, I do) collection of used books. Friendly staff. Lighting is just right.

They got sofa for u to sit n read. It is like a little oasis in the middle of the noisy downtown. I bought a 2nd hand Japanese ceremony book from them and the price is not too bad compare to Amazon.

Literally an amazing place! Many great books to choose from and seller is very kind. The books are half of the original price. They sell bookmarks too. The place is really cozy and a nice place to settle down just to read for a bit. I left very happily!

So packed full of, likely, 100K books! I don't know how they do it in such an orderly, clean fashion! I was hoping for something to read while sitting at a street outdoor cafe, yet I ended up with three well-priced books (2 new, 1 new with slight water damage).

Their antique book collection far exceeds what I've seen in any other traditional used bookstores!

Awesome selection, books are in really good condition, and prices are fair. I've also sold books here – the process was easy, and the price was fair (I usually choose store credit over cash, since you get slightly more). I come here so often just to browse!

I love this place! It has a the best kind of used bookstore feel, like you could get a bunch of books and read all day inside the store. They also have a lot of really cool collector's items, which I'm never really there for but I always appreciate!

They also have a great selection of reasonably priced used books. While you may not find super popular books here all the time, they do have a really great selection that spans quite a few genres. I always really enjoy browsing and spending some time here, and I dig supporting this quirky small bookstore.

Probably the best bookstore I’ve ever been to. This bookshop carries many collections and hard-to-find books including the Library of America and Everyman’s Library at very affordable prices.

The owner is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The bookstore is a sanctuary from the busy streets filled with people and chatter. You can sit inside on cushy chairs and couches.

Prices are low for San Mateo. I love this because it means everyone can afford to read.

Best Bay bookstore south of Green Apple and North of Feldman’s. Usually there is a decent selection, and always very good pricing.

I love this place. There's comfy areas where you can take time to fall in love with the books you will purchase. I've found that the prices are very reasonable. This store helps makes downtown San Mateo more well rounded.

This bookstore was absolutely fantastic! It had amazing collections, original editions of all sorts of books, some dating in the 1700's! My wife and I hung out in this store for at least an hour browsing and left with a box full. Highly, highly recommend.

Like many good used book stores, B Street Books is a great place to discover some excellent literature. They may or may not have an exact title you are seeking, but they will definitely have many good books on many topics across all genres. B Street Books has an especially good selection of books on American and California history. They also carry children's books, a selection of Manga and graphic novels, and some rare and early print books. They purchase books, have knowledgeable staff, and keep an interesting and timely window display, too. Check them out!
