Black Rock Tavern & Restaurant

Amazing first experience at this restaurant. Loved the wings - crispy yet juicy, sauces were phenomenal, blue cheese was chunky and good. We also had bbq ribs, Mac and cheese, steak, and truffle fries. Great service. Highly recommend

We came for a meal before a play at the Thomaston Opera House. It was a Saturday night and we had made reservations for two at 5pm. When we checked in it wasn't busy so we had figured that we really didn't need reservations, but within 15 minutes of arriving, we were really happy that we had made reservations as the restaurant really began to fill up. (later at the play, we recognized a bunch of restaurant patrons were at Black Rock too.).
We had a recommendation to eat at Black Rock and that was super spot-on! We started with Calimari and General Tso Sprouts. Both were very flavorful; highly recommended. We had leftover Calimari to take home! We both got tacos: one chicken and one was shrimp. Both were awesome. The chicken was spicy, only order if you love a little burn...nice burn!! We had wine and a local beer. No dessert because we didn't want to be stuffed and sleepy during the Play. We later stopped back and had a drink at the bar. Definitely a local bar where everyone knows everyone. We felt welcomed. Service in restaurant and the bar was fast and friendly.

First time here. Seated quickly, service was prompt and attentive. Food came out hot and looked good. Nice tasting beef tacos. And the Mac & cheese was very creamy and cheesy. Very pleasant experience.

I hardly never write reviews but this was my 1st time going here. We were celebrating my birthday and we had such a great experience. The food was so delicious. The prices were decent. The waitress was friendly. The inside was clean and nice looking. We would definitely recommend trying and we will be back. We had chicken and waffles and onion rings.

Great little tavern with a well rounded menu of upscale pub fare. Food was delicious, staff was so nice, and the service was very good. Music is subjective as always, but I thought it was nice. l stop back next time I'm out this way.

Nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. The food was excellent. I had a Cesar Salad with chicken, my friend had a Corned Beef Reuben, and my son had a burger. The French Fries were cooked perfectly!

Great wings, salad was great too! There were bacon pieces and goat cheese, and the Nashville hot sauce was terrific

One of the cooler experiences I’ve had eating in CT. I ordered the steak on a hot stone and it was very delicious and fun to cook and eat at the same time. You can cook the steak to your liking and it is very satisfying to do so, definitely stop by here for a cool eating experience.

Drinks were very good and our waitress Lauren was around when we needed her and was on top of things. I got the sirloin steak which was VERY good and filling. We had a little mishap with our order, but it was no big deal. Things happen and I was well taken care of. I also got a side of mac and cheese which was also delicious. Your meal will only be as expensive as you make it. Prices were on par with a typical decent restaurant. Would love to go back again.

The food and service here breaks the norm of restaurant quality. Everything was phenomenal to the point of being baffling. I wish it was closer. 10/10

Popped in here for a quick lunch. What a pleasant surprise the Black Rock was. We had a great fun and friendly server, and when she brought out our food, holy smokes were the portions huge. Great fish and chips, hand breaded chicken sandwiches. Definitely recommend and will go back next visit to the area.

EXCELLENT service from both the bar and kitchen staff. Very willing and able to accommodate a vegan diet. Wide variety of choices on the menu and a beautifully stocked bar - this casual restaurant / tavern is great for people of all ages!

Hubby brought us here for our anniversary dinner and everything was AWESOME!! Our server, Lindsey, was the best ever and the food was excellent!!! Thank you for making my anniversary terrific!

While visiting relatives in CT, we had dinner at Black Rock Tavern & Restaurant. We all chose something different from their terrific menu. Everything was fresh and prepared to perfection! Everyone had a great meal in a very quiet and comfortable setting that made conversation easy. The service was excellent and attentive without being intrusive.
The only question that I had was, how does a small restaurant in Connecticut have such excellent jambalaya? It really was outstanding! I have had jambalaya in New Orleans that was very good, but tonight’s dinner was the best! Again, everything was obviously fresh and prepared to perfection. The tomatoes were plentiful and fresh, the chicken was tender, the sausage was tasty without being greasy, and the shrimp were large, plentiful and tender. There was just the right amount of Cajun spices without the heat overpowering the delicious blends of flavors.
We will be sure to dine at the Black Rock Tavern & Restaurant on our next visit. I sure hope that the jambalaya will still be on the menu!

Enjoyed being in the old dining room where I had so many great meals in the past. The woman who served me was attentive & helpful. The soup I had was SO good! My Reuben sandwich was one of the best I've ever had!

The food is delicious!! All the wait staff and hostess were so friendly! They greeted you and treated you like a long, lost friend. Went for an early dinner (5:15) on a Saturday. So lucky we went early, since a show was going on at the Opera House and it got extremely busy after 6:00. Had the pretzel knots for an appetizer with a cheese sauce. So yummy! For dinner, had the short ribs, delicious The meat shredded with a fork. I highly recommend!

We love Black Rock. The staff is amazing!!! And the food is Always Great!!! Clearly well managed, employees always seem happy.
We love going to Black Rock on Friday nights or Saturday afternoons... Rocky is fun!

My husband and I had dinner here last night and it was excellent! Great waitress, Christine. She introduced herself to us which always scores bonus points with us. We started with cauliflower and broccoli ap with general tsaos sauce on it. I was surprised that my husband would go for it bc he hates those 2 veg... he LOVED it. Just the right kick, really yummy. My husband had rib eye steak and loved it. I had wague burger with truffle fried. Omg sooooo

good.. we will definitely be back. Thanks to chef Ali!!!
