The Hopkins Inn & Restaurant

For a second you can forget that you are in Connecticut and not in Austria, the lake views are more than great, the cuisine is authentic Austrian , the stuff is very attentive and wears typical Tirol outfit . We love the place and come here year around.

Wonderful view of the lake from the dining area. We kayaked at the lake and went to the Hopkins Inn for dinner. Their German beer was great. We had stroganoff and chicken cordon blue. Both were excellent. Service was incredible with almost the entire staff stopped by to make sure that our dining experience was perfect. Dessert menu all looked delicious. We had chocolate mousse which was super creamy and chocolate sundae was outstanding. Cappuccino was also delicious too. This is my favorite restaurant!

Everyone in our area knows that Hopkins is the go-to place for a memorable (or romantic) outing. The patio is reminiscent of Europe
overlooking the beautiful Lake Waramaug. I've found no other venue quite so relaxing and scenic away from the seashore.
Go enjoy the Austrian cuisine whenever the weather permits and I promise, you will return. Thank you, faithful management.

My wife and I had dinner there last night and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Andrea was our server and she was terrific. The food was delicious and the views were unmatched. We enjoyed every minute. Do yourself a favor and eat outside, you won't be disappointment.

We loved our stay at the Hopkins inn and plan to return in the future. We were greated as soon as we walked in to check in and had another staff help us to our room. The room was spacious and just as I expected from reading the description. We stayed in room 9 which has its own private entrance. The bathroom is down the hall but no one else is around so it doesn’t interfere with privacy. It was nice to have a box fan available to use. The views from the room were nice and even being right above the dining area it wasn’t very loud just at night if the windows are open. Highly recommend staying here!

The Hopkins Inn is a wonderful place for a holiday meal. They have a prix fixe menu with several salad/appetizer options, multiple entrees to satisfy every palate, and tasty desserts. The meal is served with the protein and a couple of sides and then staff brings multiple vegetables around for family style service. It's crowded but warm and cozy and the staff is always friendly. Book early for a daytime spot with stunning views of the lake.
Regular service is just as good - you can't go wrong with a meal at the Hopkins Inn.

My dad took my family and I here when I was a little boy. The quality of food, service and atmosphere has stayed consistent and never floundered in the 45 years that I've been coming. Can't say the same thing for any other restaurant that I know of. Definitely my favorite restaurant of all time!

Appetizers were delicious Mussels & Clams casino, for dinner I had Rahmschnitzel, mom had mixed seafood special and my friend had the seared tuna Caesar salad.

Wonderful restaurant, beautiful view, outstanding food and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Highly recommend for the perfect dining experience.

Great food and drinks! Four of us ate entirely different meals and everyone commented on how great the food tasted and looked. Service was excellent, too!

We rented the apartment and it was fine. Not modern and new but everything was clean ...and we knew what it looked like before we booked it. Nice getting up in the morning to amazing views. We were looking for peaceful and the Inn is in a very peaceful area. We thought we'd hear the chatter of diners in front, but we didnt.

Recommend a reservation on Sunday afternoons.

Had dinner there for the first time tonight for our 23rd wedding anniversary. My wife had been there a couple times and to the vineyard across the street a number of times. We sat outside for dinner, the weather was wonderful and the view is great. The food is very good, we had escargot, and the Jager schnitzel, seriously so good. Stayed for dessert and coffee as well.
Would highly recommend, felt like I was on vacation.

Was skeptical on trying this place, first time eating Austrian food. Started out by having some wine at their vineyard on their property which was nice.
Went to have dinner and sat outside overlooking lake waramaug on their patio.
Place was packed. Forgive me on not spelling or listing the actual dish name, it was on their specials menu.
Started with Caesar salad which was good but small, average.
I ordered the Jordan veal which was great. Breaded pounded veal with brown mushroom sauce with red cabbage, spitzl (pasta) and a poached pear. The garlic bread is really a must have, ask for 2.
Wife got salmon which was very plain, almost seemed boiled but she ate it all.
Their shaved potatoes w/hint of onions I could make a meal on themselves. Definitely order these.
Ordered their Apple strudel which was delicious but needed ice cream with it.
I would go back again.
Staff was busy and took a while to order our food but it came out pretty quick. Pic was taken outside and when getting dark.

Loved it. We had a front room with lovely view of lake. Had dinner and breakfast. Both meals were excellent, though a tad pricey.

This was an excellent location to celebrate a loved ones milestone birthday with a small group. We sat outside on the patio which had a view overlooking the water. Timing our arrival for 5pm in mid-August ensured there was shade. Service was a bit slow, other tables not so much, but our overall experience more than made up for this. We really enjoyed our evening! Be sure to try the escargot, the Jägerschnitzel (if it’s available), and the linzertorte for dessert. I’ll be back for dinner again and hope to spend a night at the inn.

Due to it being a winter stay we weren't able to try the restaurant but we really liked the room for our short getaway. It was spotless, warm and cozy with outside temperatures in the teens. At 2 am on a Saturday night, due to myself not paying attention, I accidentally locked the keys in the bathroom. I reluctantly had to contact the provided telephone number, which brought the owner in no time, she was able to open it and retrieve them for me. I really appreciated their excellent service. We will be visiting again soon. Beautiful setting any time of year.

This place is very nice by the water. They have a lot of German dishes. Food is fresh and seasoned very well. Plethora of choices for everyone. Vineyard is in the back.Sat outside beautiful. Inside is just as beautiful.
My only suggestion would be some sort of mosquito repellent on the tables.. via candle or outside device in the trees.

Wonderful experience! Our waiter Andrew and our hostess ( I did not get her name.. dark hair ).. were welcoming, accommodating and warm. We dined and stayed here a night after Christmas week 2021. Restaurant was warmly decorated. Dining was exquisite. My wife had chicken cordon bleu and I had the duck. Garlic bread is a must. Breakfast was also outstanding . We will suggest having a yearly experience here with other friends and family. Thank you and well done!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff friendly, location excellent, rooms traditional, and proximity to vineyard was a bonus. Plenty to do in the area including picturesque hikes and small towns to visit. Nice long weekend.
