Cafe Java

This was an absolute find. I’ve lived in downtown New Haven for 3 years and I’m so sad it too me that long to find this great little cafe that blends right into a corporate building. I highly recommend this place for the food, price and service. The staff is extremely welcoming and willing to be flexible with their menu if they have the ingredients to make you something you like. They do breakfast and lunch Mondays thru Fridays.

Here’s my food reviews for today on a 1-10 scale:

- Sausage, Egg and Cheese on Portuguese roll: 7.9
- Chicken Cutlet Panini: 8.3 (looks simple but really tasty)
- Creamy Chicken Gnocchi Soup: 9.3
- My wife enjoyed her coffee: 9.0

Thanks to Cathy, Josh, Curt and Bruce for being neighborly. Kudos to Bruce with the homemade soups. Apparently they have like a 30 soup rotation and do New England clam chowder every Thursday.

I’ll be back again and again.

Chill little spot with good coffee, good breakfast sandwiches and friendly staff. Quick and easy in and out on your way to the office, and calm and lowkey for when you want to grab a coffee and relax.

One of the best breakfast spots in downtown and the friendliest staff in New Haven. Only wish they were open on weekends.

I stumbled upon Java coffee about a month ago when I decided to try a cortado for the first time. They have basically become a part of my morning routine, 1 cortado, 2 sugars & cinnamon(incase you want to try lol) anyways the cashier is very Nice and so is the barista! I haven't tried any food yet, but I plan to stop for lunch soon. Thank you all for serving in excellence! 5/5 for me!!!

This place has the best breakfast sandwiches hands down in the city. Every time I go in I’m always greeted with a smile and they go out of their way to remember what I like. Nice place, great staff👌🏽

The staff was so great, the small seating area was great and the food was really good! Breakfast only on Friday and it was worth it.

During lunch break from having to serve jury duty I found this coffee shop down the street and decided to pop in. The two behind the counter were very friendly and inviting, and the special grilled cheese with tomato or bacon with soup was PERFECT . The chicken corn chowder came out piping hot and didn't even need any salt or pepper. I'm usually skeptical when someone has to make my coffee instead of me doing it, but unlike dunkin donuts the gentleman made it just right! they seem to have a familiar and friendly customer fan base, and I would definitely go back

Kathy, Bruce, and Curt, they take care of you and learn your name. It's like Cheers was back in the day, but the food and coffee are probably much better. I love coming here every day for my coffee and a sandwich or salad. And I like all of the people that frequent it, too.

This is an excellent gem in the New Haven breakfast scene. 100% hands down best breakfast sandwich in the city IMO.

Sausage, egg, and cheese in a Portuguese roll with spicy aioli (Mayo? Whatever.) The roll is absolutely key and they nailed it. The Mayo added a ton to the combo for me but if you’re not into that, omit it.

The coffee was fantastic, I got a medium roast that tasted fresh and had no off flavors consumed black w/o sugar. These guys care about their coffee.

Best of all, if you can beat the best breakfast sandwich, we’re the people. Cathy, Bruce, and Myra were all awesome and talkative and made me feel super welcome.

Make this your new spot. You’ll be seeing me around.

Let me start by saying I wish I could give this place 6 stars it’s absolutely amazing. !!! Best coffee I’ve ever had and this is comming from a frequent Starbucks drinker. Customer service is unmatchable. From the moment I ordered to the moment I left it was nothing but pleasant. The women behind the cash register made me feel comfortable and was very welcoming I had a lot of questions and she answered them all with a smile. I will for sure be comming here weekly they even have a cute sit down area if your with friends or want to get work done 10/10 recommend!!!!

Very cool little coffee and sandwich shoppe located inside the first floor of one of New Havens historic office buildings. The sandwiches and chowder are excellent. Service with a smile. Do go!

Great place to stop for coffee and a sandwich. We had breakfast but the lunch offerings looked pretty substantial. Quick friendly service and a good value for the price

This place is very good. They make great sandwiches and really good coffee drinks. I Love the boar's head offerings. Decent baked goods as well.

Super friendly staff. Makes you feel important. Remembers practically everyone’s name and their usual order. Food is great. Smoothies are delicious
