This diner may look small on the outside but their menu is LARGE and they are serving up some amazing breakfast all day. Along with many lunch options.

They were voted best pancakes in Connecticut and after trying their cinnamon roll pancakes I am NOT surprised! Actual heaven. They have many unique flavors ranging from chocolate cake to Oreo to M&Ms.

Their savory side of the menu is just as good - I highly suggest the loaded home fries. So cheesy and delicious. Many omelettes to choose from which are also great. Super generous portions too. Kind staff and quick service.

Went for Christmas eve breakfast... this place is GREAT! Kalli was our waitress and she is awesome. The food is delicious, fresh and the servings are huge. Their fresh brewed raspberry hibiscus tea is so good. We had the pastrami omlette, the Italian omlette, Belgian waffle topped with chocolate chips with sausage links, Belgian waffle topped with banana with bacon and cheese grits (omg and I don't even like grits and i couldn'tget enough of them!). This little gem is worth the drive and we will be the patrons that have our own parking space 😆 Keep doing what you're doing State Street Cafe your food and staff are wonderful!

Very cozy atmosphere. Very welcoming and warm. The portions here are HUGE! Worth the price. Would recommend to share!

First time here and the food was AMAZING!. French toast smothered in strawberries and whipped cream,😋😋. Customer service was also a plus!

Really nice food. The proportions were very big. The wait was a little long but it was worth it. The boom boom chicken was really good and tasty along with the fries being amazingly seasoned. We also got other dishes. The tres leches banana French toast which was good, but too sweet and the bread was very mushy. We got other dishes which were good too. The corned beef hash was very salty though. If u want good food and big proportions, I recommend this place for sure!

We had heard great things about State Street Cafe’s breakfast, and when we found out that they had a tsunami s’mores pancake special AND were recognized as the best pancakes in the state, we had to come visit! We arrived by 8:30 on a Saturday morning figuring we could beat the rush, but they were already very busy! Luckily we managed to get a seat, but by the time we left there was a line of people waiting. Truly a testament to how good State Street is! The pancakes were a sweet tooth lover’s dream, and besides all of the sugary toppings, the pancakes themselves were really good and deserving of their recognition. My fiancé needs protein and something savory for breakfast, so he really enjoyed their southerner special. I took a bite too, and we agreed that the homemade sausage was fantastic. Our waitress was great, and we just loved the classic, hometown breakfast restaurant experience here. I would definitely make the drive to North Haven again for breakfast here!

The pro: THE VERY BEST PANCAKES! I always get the chocolate chip banana pancakes and somehow always forget how huge each one is.
The blueberry ones are good. The cinnamon bun pancakes are delicious as well.

Busy in the morning, but for a good reason. There’s a chance you’ll have to wait to get a table, so go early or during non peak hours.
Staff was so good, we love MaryAnne. Food came out relatively quick and hot. Serving sizes were bigger than we expected, so it sure filled us up!

Classic diner feel with a very creative menu. Service was excellent during a busy Sunday morning. Food was excellent. I enjoyed a special breakfast sandwich with house made sausage which was delicious. Worth every penny. A return is guaranteed

Stopped on our road trip from Philly to Framingham MA. Liked it enough to stop again on the way back. On Saturday at noon it was packed. Got counterseating immediately. There was substantial wait for the food, but they were packed so of course. The food was great. Our servers were excellent. Extremely pleasant and accommodating and managed the packed house with grace. Food was fantastic. Tuesday on the way back booth seating was available immediately. It's typical diner interior, but they took real effort with the Christmas decor. Nice menu selections. Love that they offer oatmeal or grits as side for eggs. As an aside, service was better at the counter, even though she was slammed.

Great service, great atmosphere and the best food around town. Just had breakfast and boy was it delicious...

Stopped by today to see George and Foula and had the breakfast taco...man was it good. Try It the next time you stop in.

Same great experience eating at State Street Cafe.

We came here on a tip on the Nextdoor app that said it was the best breakfast place in New Haven. As a breakfast fanatic, I had to try it! The staff was very genuinely friendly, the prices were fair, and the menu was extensive for both breakfast and lunch. The grits were particularly delicious, as was my green omelet and french toast. Cozy local atmosphere - not a posh hipster brunch place with crazy lines. Highly recommend!

Loaded grits were the best I have ever had. Great food and service. Lots of choices in area but you gotta check this place out.. you won’t be disappointed!

Best pancakes ever! We drive out of our way to eat breakfast here. The food comes out hot and delicious, and we've always had good service.

3 for atmosphere because it can ba a bit loud and hard to park, they often cant hear you on the phone when you order. Make your order for pickup , park in the package store parkinglot next door, get in and get out. Food is worth the hastle.

Staff is Super friendly and accommodating. The food is really good. The booth walls could use a scrub but I have no doubt the kitchen is clean.

State St cafe is a Sunday staple for us. We were ecstatic to hear that even during quarantine they are serving up some awesome food. They’ve even set up a drive-thru pick up window.

My partner religiously orders their French toast. This time I got a chicken salad sandwich and fries. Try their house-made bread!

We started coming here about 2 years ago.. we love it! Danielle is my absolute favorite waitress 😊 she makes the caramel apple butter latte the BEST! give that woman a raise 😁🫶🏽
