I had an incredible experience at the Mattatuck Museum! The highlight was the exhibit of women artists creating art that celebrates women's work. The pieces were beautiful and thought provoking. I appreciate that the descriptions of all the art throughout the museum were understandable and thoughtful comments that enhanced my appreciation of the piece, not artistic mumbo jumbo that left me confused and did nothing to interpret the piece. Lastly, I appreciate the exhibit on Waterbury's history and the heartfelt messages of acknowledgement for institutional racism and mistreatment of indigenous peoples. I will definitely return to the Mattatuck Museum

If you are looking for a lost button look no further becuase they all.ended up in this musuem. Wow 👀 all the buttons. I really liked this musuem all floors accessable by elevator and although I saw some questionable art made with totirilla warming blankets the 1st floor was my favorite. This history of waterbury and seeing all the soap box derby and using those 📞listening to hear all the stories of people very interesting.

Hidden gem in downtown Waterbury. I went in for a Latin jazz concert and had to stay for the art. I will return just to enjoy the great art and exhibits.

History, good food and great friends! What else could I ask for? Murder mystery show yes please! Who done it? That's for you to figure out. The museum features multiple levels art exhibits. They also feature early Americana, Connecticut and local Waterbury area history. Which is my favorite. They also feature local products from Connecticut and their gift shop. And a wider range of gifts very unique items as well.
Inside the museum they have The Art of Yum.
They featured
Pepper polo panini
Fig bacon and ricotta grilled cheese
Spicy tuna rolls
Mini tacos- steak, chicken and Mediterranean (vegan)
Korean noodle bowls- spicy kimichi (vegan) and shrimp

They also had a signature cocktails called Gin cold blood. Definitely fits the murder mystery theme, which features gin, pomegranate syrup, lemon juice and seltzer water. If they also had can cocktails beer and wine.
About the show they do bend the rules of History as they use historic artist from the Connecticut area.
Artists like Alexander Calder, Elsie Roland Chase, Francis Hines I heard that whose art was technically discovered in a dumpster due to the fact that he rented a barn in Watertown Connecticut. We also had George Marinko and Kay Sage. We also had the sassy detective officer Smith. This was a very unique and interesting experience I suggest it to anyone who wants to have a fun night along with great food.

It is a small museum full of local history as well as many new exhibits change and vary by theme and genre. They also offer many different classes for adults and children.

The Mattatuck Museum hosted a family birthday celebration this week-end and it was a huge success. With Leanna's guidance and experience, we had an event that will long be remembered. Along with light fare and beverages, our guests were invited to leisurely tour the museum, and the response was a unanimous thumbs up. Many of our guests had never been to the museum or had not been there since grade school, and all were so impressed with the many exhibits that the Mattatuck Museum had to offer, especially the Norman Rockwell exhibit.
I cannot say enough about Leanna Velez. Phone calls, emails, texts; she was always in contact with me, answering questions and providing recommendations. She set up our venue with great attention to detail, and during our party, she was behind the scenes, but a moment away, if needed. Do not hesitate to call her for your next event. Outstanding customer service.

I've been to museum in past and now after it's renovations. It's still a cool place to visit you learn new bits of history and see new art all the time. The new deck is beautiful and the projects to capture the kids is awesome. My children love going here and wandering around or signing up for art classes.

I absolutely love the "new" museum! Great job on the upgrades!! I recently did a photoshoot there and let tell you, it was a blast!! Leanna was SUPER nice and respectful. She was accommodating and so down to earth. I truly appreciate her for making my shoot so much easier than I thought it would be. Thank you Leanna for all your help and laughs, you made me feel super comfortable while I was way out of my comfort zone lol I truly wish you the best!!
See you soon!!

Today was the second time I have visited the museum—first a month ago from the outside and today from the inside. It is a gem in the region and had a surprisingly great collection! I was even able to meet one of the artists whose private collection is on display.

Connecticut is fortunate to have many quality museums and the Mattatuck is right there with them. It's a bit smaller than the New Britain Museum of American Art and has a similar collection of 19th and 20th century standouts like Frederic Edwin Church and Alexander Calder. There are rooms dedicated to changing exhibits and resident artists. One room had an exhibit of Mattatuck Museum members whose work was curated by a juror. The selection featured a range of local artist from paintings to collage, photography and sculpture. It's also a great place to learn about Waterbury history and why they call it "the Brass City". This multimedia exhibit has a lot of hands-on activities for the kids to stay entertained. There are several levels of admission, including a discount for AARP members. Parking on the street uses a kiosk Monday through Saturday so best to use the free parking in the back. It’s easy to get to, especially if you use GPS. Our WAZE directions were accurate. Be aware that the museum is on the Waterbury green so there are two West Main streets. This is a wonderful museum with a community-centered approach to engaging viewers in discovering, learning and enjoying art. Take it slow and save some for another visit.
