The Catalyst Cafe

A Missoula staple for many years, and tied with Burns St Bistro for best brunch in Missoula. The Heap is a long-time favorite, and consider it is TWO meals for the mortal. Breakfast burrito is also great but a little spicy. Coffee/Espresso is fantastic. Funky place with varied seating including now downstairs expansion. Indoor and Outdoor seating. Expect a wait on weekends and summer days.

We grabbed breakfast at the cafe and were both very pleased. The house made PBC (plant based chorizo) is some of the best plant based meat I've had, and I've tried a wide array of the stuff. It makes a terrific center for their 3 egg omelette, combined with some peppers and cheese for the full effect. My wife raved about her Veggie burrito as well, finding it to be not only full of tasty ingredients but also well made, by someone who made it as if they were going to eat it themselves...not as if it were just thrown together and chucked out the door, you know? Good food made by good people.

I was there for breakfast with my sister. She had the breakfast burrito 🌯 which could feed three people.
I had a fried egg 🍳 sandwich 🥪 and a green chili 🌶 potato 🥔 hash which happened to be fantastic. A must if you go!

Our last meal of Missoula (Half) Marathon weekend! Had we eaten here earlier, we probably would have come back multiple times! I loved the variety of menu options! We enjoyed the morning sun on the sidewalk with a perfect latte and delicious waffles. Hope to come back someday!

Small but the real deal. Great breakfast, lunch, good staff. Outdoor sidewalk seating. Quiet jazz in morning. Small w/upstairs seating too...no disability accessible bathrooms. In an historic downtown building
Local breads, meats, eggs, jams ...just good food. The English muffin on plate was good but different. Home made blueberry preserves & fresh fruit

What a fun little cafe with great atmosphere and super friendly and attentive servers. Delicious food with very large portions. If you’re looking for comfort food the grilled cheese amazing.

I would highly recommend this establishment and to visit them quickly before they close! Fantastic culinary experience. A bit of a wait when we visited but it was well worth it. Food was great through and through. The chai tea and smoothies were really good. Cool cafe styled atmosphere with a cozy loft with additional seating. They also have nice outdoor seating for dining customers.
I was sad to learn they are permanently closing sometime in November. They are so very good and wish I had discovered them earlier. I will have to get back there before they close.

The Heap was incredible! Great flavors and a big portions! The Daily’s bacon was perfectly crisp, as bacon should be. My two year old devoured the blueberry buckwheat waffle! Service was excellent and atmosphere was great. Friendly staff even through their busiest time. Definitely recommend!

Probably one of the best places in Missoula for breakfast! The buckwheat waffles are delicious, must try. I also was able to try The Heap, which as the name implies was absolutely massive (and very tasty). Lastly, they make a delicious London Fog, definitely give it a try.

The one downside is they currently are including in the bill a 20% service charge. The service was good, but personally I believe they should either simply increase the price of the food and distribute that to the employees or go back to allowing customers to tip as they see fit.

Overall, this was a great place for breakfast, the atmosphere and staff were great, and I'd definitely return.

O.M.G. I have no words to describe my breakfast this morning. I decided to stop in here cause they had GF options and cause I had just finished running a 5K. And it did not disappoint.

I ended up building my own breakfast of eggs, cheddar potato casserole (legit amazing), GF toast and fruit with their cold brew and it was just insanely good. I tried their house sauce and it was so yum too. Wish I could sneak some thru TSA to bring home!

Service was great as well. So happy I tried this place. If I stayed in Missoula my entire time I would have to eat here everyday. Like I may have to leave Glacier National Park early to see if I can make breakfast before my flight home!

Can’t rave enough about the kind service here!!! Super friendly hostess and our waiter had great suggestions. The chilaquiles were great (be warned that they don’t really work well at all as leftovers). My wife got the Heap, which was my favorite! The potatoes were crispy and well seasoned.

Portions were veeeery generous so we took most of the food home to enjoy later!

Came for marathon weekend over from Bozeman. Very nice breakfast for a post-race meal.

We are here visiting for the Missoula Marathon and heard great things. There was absolutely no disappointment from our family. My kids ordered waffles that were fluffy and light. I ordered the arugula and beet salad that was delicious! The coffee was perfect and smooth. The citrus green tea was refreshing. The kids loved their lemonade. We hope to make it back before we leave town!

I went out of my way to enjoy their all day breakfast after seeing mentions of Gluten Free items from other reviewers. It was worth the detour!
Delicious food. Mariah and Shayla provided great service. All efforts to sanitize and mask up were appreciated. A chill ambiance rounded out the experience.

Best breakfast that I've had so far! Love that you can get breakfast and lunch all day. Love that they had muhammara and made it into a great addition to my breakfast bowl. They have a vast array of vegan/vegetarian options and even the traditional dishes were over the top. The special of the day, biscuits and gravy, was very delicious too. The build your own plate makes it easy if the options available were not what you were seeking. Definitely recommend this place as it appeases to everyone.

Killer biscuits and gravy.. it’s almost a little too hippie of a spot for me and there isn’t a ton of room, but very friendly service. Their menu indicated they would be closing down in the near future. If it’s still open, it’s worth stopping for breakfast. Line was a little long but it moved fast.

Stopped by for a quick coffee. We were greeted and taken care of the friendliest and most attentive staff. The in house coffee is very flavorful. The latte is great as well.

P.S Second time here a few days later for breakfast. Had the jumbos rancheros which were very delicious. Also tried the omelette which was great as well. A must try

This place is cozy and delicious. The staff is very nice and provide a very comfortable atmosphere. They are also willing to make exchanges for tofu instead of eggs if you want to make an item vegan. I look forward to going back to this place next time I'm in Missoula.

Great food and service. Worth the wait. We walked around at shops and were texted when our table was ready. Better for smaller groups.

Great service, Soren was great. Lots of great coffee, cup was kept filled. I had an omelette. Vegetables were fresh, egg very fluffy. Unbelievable potato casserole with green chillies. Hot and fresh. We'll be back!

The food here was incredible, fresh and delicious. Our server was on top of our order, keeping our drinks filled and able to check on us consistently. We will definitely come back anytime we are close to this area!
