I am an avid book lover and decided to Google "best bookstores in Montana". This little shop was the number one hit. I just happened to be passing through Missoula and if course I had to stop. The atmosphere of the store was so cozy and cute, yet a little cluttered, just how you would imagine a bookstore. They had sections for all the big genres and had quite a few of the popular books of today. Each section was fairly small, as this is a locally owned bookstore, but there was something for everyone in my family. We enjoyed our stop here and I look forward to going back one day!

It’s rare for a book store to standout as being passionate about reading - Shakespeare & Co does. I am a bit ashamed that I have lived here for as long as I have without stepping foot in here.

💯😈💯 Had the random book I wanted and found it for me.
For you young ones, it’s like Amazon but with awesome people, sick vibe, and no screens.

Beautiful laid back book store, book lovers could happily hibernate here. Love the Big Bird painting.

Great local bookstore. Garth is unique but knows his stuff.

Friendly staff open to suggestions for writers and books. Nice atmosphere like an independent bookstore needs to get repeat customers. They even have a big stuffed chair that my spouse used while I was still browsing.

Small, but well stocked book store. They have an entire section dedicated to translated literature, which makes me very happy.

This is my favorite book store! It is such a treat each time to go in and find ten times the number of books I walked in looking for. They are so great about ordering books in for you as well! The kids section is well stocked and I so appreciate the range of books for young readers! Love this shop.

A nice reminder that small, independent bookstores still exist and are troves of good reads. It's pretty small so you're not going to find everything here; but the unique selection of offerings makes this the perfect place to come without a particular book in mind but rather a willingness to find something new.

All the books on sale here are ensured to be high-quality and interesting, with an emphasis on showcasing unknowns as well as literature relevant to the area.

Of course, being independently-owned means everyone here is quite friendly and will gladly give you suggestions and (if you're extra nice) might order a specific book you want if it's not in stock.

If you're a bibliophile there's bound to be something on these shelves just for you, and you might not find it even in the bigger stores with bigger selections.

I love the "garthazon" online ordering!! This time I ordered 2 books of whichever edition (basically said surprise me 😆), and received absolutely, stunningly beautiful books that made my bibliophile heart quicken! I *was going to gift one of these... but I've decided that I will gift my older copy instead and keep this one for myself 🤫😅

They had a copy of a book I’ve been hunting for and, what helped sell me on this bookshop personally, a well stocked Kurt Vonnegut section

Local bookseller of preference. For a small store they have an impressive and tastefully curated inventory. If they don't have what you're looking for, they're happy to get their hands on it quickly. It's a pleasure to see the independent brick-and-mortars thrive in spite of Amazon.

Easily the best literary bookstore in Missoula. The owner, Garth, is extremely knowledgeable, and a nice guy, to boot. I cannot recommend this bookstore highly enough. One caveat: He does not stock the latest bestsellers. His store caters to serious readers.

What a gem of a bookstore! We were visiting for a conference and wandered in to browse. We walked out with a half dozen books. What a great spot to find good contemporary lit, graphic novels, and other texts. A great haunt for a bibliophile!

Wonderful local bookstore. I much prefer to support independent book sellers than loathsome Bezos' Amazon

One of the best and smartest bookstores I have ever visited.
Everything I expected to see, I saw; I saw a lot that was new to me, and I learned when I was in the store.
I bought more than I planned, and was happy to do it.

We were visiting Missoula while our son was in camp, and really enjoyed this bookstore. It is the classic, independent book store. Not the massive amounts of books as the chains, but lots of interesting books. They had a good selection specific to the Montana area. The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions for folks visiting Missoula, both in books and in the attractions of the area.
