Delicious pizza and Italian grinders! Popular locally owned restaurant with an impressive reputation. Rilee was friendly, fun and an excellent server. Wonderful experience. We will keep coming back often.

This was my first time here and I would not hesitate to go back. The inside dining seemed a little cool and close seating so we (party of 2) enjoyed a table on the patio and really liked the setup. Our waitress was excellent, which (to me) is a big part for feeling like you’ve had a positive experience at a place, next to the taste of a meal of course. We ordered a large or 12” supreme pizza; the crust was thin and crispy with a good amount of toppings and sauce (for $20.50). I wanted something else with my meal so I got a side salad and that’s the only reason I did a 4 instead of a 5 in all my ratings…for $5 it was a bit sparse with a handful of iceberg lettuce, two pieces of onion, 2 cherry tomatoes and a cracker. If you’re ordering a sandwich ($11-$12) you can add a side salad for $2.50 or it’s free with an entree ($17-$21) so that’s the only reason why I felt $5 was a little high after seeing the other price points. If I was doing a bistro or 10” size pizza then $5 seems more fair for a side salad but overall not a dealbreaker for whether I’d go back. Saw several other dishes served and the pasta looked great as well as their appetizers. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you try them out if a first timer.

1st time there. Don't know why it took me so long. Seated immediately. Friendly staff, served quickly, good variety of choices on menu. Shared a sandwich and pizza. Glad to find Amber Bock. Ran into friends! We'll be back!

I have been wanting to try Sonny's Bistro for a while now and we finally went. The service and food was absolutely great and I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great place to eat with a nice Italian atmosphere. Our party of 6 loved every meal that was served especially the pizza.

We've been here several times. The food is always fantastic and the service is great! We usually get pizza and appetizers. Highly recommend.

Their pizza is an excellent thin crust. It had the best crisp, cooked to perfection. The Chicken Romano was also really delicious.

Some friends told us about this place. I wasn't sure what to expect from the outside. When we got in the dinning room was very small and only has about 10 tables. The place was packed, we went on a Wednesday. After about 30 min we finally were seated out waitress, Brea, greeted us warmly and got our drink order started. She alone is worth going to Sonny's. We got our food in short time and it was DELICIOUS! I recommend everyone try this place. 2nd best pasta in Des Moines.

Delicious food, outstanding and attentive service, and the atmosphere is warm and in its own way romantic. We love going to Sonny's!

If you haven’t tried their Red Sauce—-DO IT!

Some of the best sandwiches in town! The Italian Beef is my go to lunch option! For dinner, the hubby and I love to share a pizza and some wine! We’re classy like that.

We're in West Des Moines from Chicago, visiting friends. We are SO glad that they took us out to Sonny's for pizza. While the exterior was a bit non-discript, the pizza was about the best thin crust pizza we have ever had. And we know pizza! The drive out into the country was well worth it.

We got spaghetti and meatballs with bread, for take out and it was so good! I definitely recommend this! They don't skimp you on the portion size, the sauce is not watery at all, and it tastes so fresh & homemade!

The service, food and the inviting friendly environment are outstanding ! Definitely a must add to your list of places to eat at!!

So good! I've only been a couple of times but I really enjoyed it this time. I got a chicken sandwich and it was one of the best I've had! The potatoes had a bit too much rosemary for my taste but still I enjoyed them very much. 😀
Also, not a lot of room to dine in. I was surprised we were able to be seated for lunch on this day.

Great little spot that has been around for years and we didn't discover until recently. Wish we'd have known it was here way before now. For and service have been excellent both visits and their patio is perfectly situated for summertime enjoyment

Absolutely amazing!! The have some of the best pizza in town. Not to mention amazing P.O.P. S, soup, and bread. I am always pleased when i come here. It’s a regular date night place for me and my boyfriend! They also have the bomb drinks and amazing service. I love this place and highly recommend coming. You get a lot of bang for your buck as well!

We visited Sonny's the first time as we were coming back from an out of town visit and drove by, turned around and went in! There was a small wait, however an option to eat outside. We chose outside, and it was very nice. Service was spot on. I always try the Alfredo at Italian restaurants, and this Alfredo may have been the best! So creamy. My husband had the cavatelli and enjoyed it very much. We will definitely visit again!

It's such a cozy place with great service and excellent food! My only complaint would be the dim lighting, but maybe that's the vibe they're going for! I'll definitely be back!

I bought a pizza delivery bag just so I can make the drive and have hot pizza.

Sonny's is fire. We've tried a lot of pizza places in the DSM area and this is my personal favorite. Everything screams fresh and homemade, and their specialty pizzas are delicious while providing some nice deviations from the standard issue pizzas.

Highly recommend this place. Dining in is fantastic as well and the patio is large!
