Great BBQ place. The Cornbread was sweet. The fries were some of the best at a BBQ restaurant I ever had. I had the pulled pork sandwich.
This KC BBQ doesn’t get as much appreciation due to its location.

Staff was incredibly helpful with the menu, and super friendly. All the guys seemed to really enjoy the work environment and proud of their barbecue. They shared their rating with us in the magazine. Cornbread could be a meal in itself. Don’t leave without trying it. The smoked chicken was my personal favorite. The beans were also a favorite!!
Not any beer on tap, but bottles available.
This is the best barbecue around.

My family and I tried The Rub the other day and we were so pleased! If given the choice, my kids would always choose hamburgers or chicken nuggets over other fare but everyone left happy and full after this meal. They have even requested this be a regular stop. The food had deep, rich bbq flavor and the meat was perfectly cooked and truly fell apart. I highly recommend the hash and also the burnt ends burrito. My kids rated the bbq, in particular the sausage, high as well as the Mac and cheese and the cornbread. It was a great stop with helpful, friendly staff that gave us suggestions as we placed the order.

KC, you continue to surprise me. I found another delicious meal close to my hotel. It's a wonder you all don't weigh as much as a semi with the food you have here.

Tonight, I am feasting at "The Rub" on some fantastic BBQ. I ordered brisket, turkey and ribs and for sides beans, potato salad, and Mac and cheese.

Their sauce! Oh my! Their sauce is a delight. Especially the spicy. I'm not usually a sauce fan because places use sauce to cover sub-par food. That's not the case here. They use a combination of wood including cherry and hickory and the flavor is delicate and loaded with flavor. The meats are all tender and tasty, and the sides! I never thought anyone would put Lima beans in their BBQ beans but The Rub did and they're good. The Mac and cheese is also heaven in a cup, creamy and delicious.

I need to say something about the staff. They are friendly and helpful and were willing to answer any questions about this place.

Warning to all Smelling Impaired: you will not be able to enjoy the rich bbq aroma. Your loss, but they have paper towels at each table to wipe your tears.
The Best: Five Guys style French fries. Pulled pork is tender, clean cut but not dry. Mac and cheese is just slightly creamy enough and tasty.
Pepsi products. Sauces made to perfection. To-Go option is available. Beans had brisket within, and made up of multiple bean types. Corn bread is sugar crusted, crusty on the very top, fluffy underneath.
If this isn't a family operation, it sure resonates well as though it were--in all the best ways. Well done, family!

Really good value for the price with the Wednesdays lunch special: jumbo bbq meat sandwich and side. Bbq turkey is good, fries are well salted ( if you like them that way, which I do). Regular bbq sauce was sweet and not my thing but tastes are subjective. Really quick service and good information from staff.

Great food service and atmosphere! Really enjoyed trying this spot. Amazing burnt ends, pork and turkey. The hand cut fries are well done and crispy. Original sauce is well balanced. Good work!

Was a little nervous after reading some reviews. But turned out great. Was reasonably priced for what you got. Was good food. Would probably skip the burnt ends though.

The Rub just catered our office party and it was flawless! Delicious pulled pork, burnt ends, turkey, salad, and sides. The staff was fantastic...they set up right on time and ensured everything went off without a hitch!

Great neighborhood BBQ place. The staff are always very friendly. Priced appropriately. Try the sweet sauce! I'm usually not one to top BBQ with sauce but we love the sweet sauce here.

The day we arrived in Kansas City, Mo , after getting unpacked at the hotel, we were hungry. We were headed to another establishment that was recommended to us by my wife's friend, when I pointed out The Rub to my wife. It was packed, so we continued on, as we were starving. While eating at the other place, I looked up The Rub menu on my phone. I found burnt ends, brisket, ribs, sweet baked beans, and sweet corn. The prices? Much lower than the sub par food I was currently eating. It was hard not to walk out and head on over for what sounded like some fine tasty Q. Sunday morning on our way home, I said "let's head to The Rub, and get some Q" They had about 45 before they were officially open, according to their online menu. We saw staff in there and my wife asked if they were open and they told us to come on in. My mouth was watering as my plate was being filled, with that sweet, mouth watering, smoked pork. We sat down and was pleasantly surprised just how delicious this meal was. Me and my wife both came to that conclusion.. we were both on the same page? Yes indeed! Asked the staff if I could take a picture of them to let them know they were doing a great job, and were very helpful. I hope every other customer has the same experience all around. In Kansas City on a visit, or just a resident who has to have some Q... Don't hesitate to stop by The Rub Bar-B-Que and Catering. Tell em' Darren Van Frankenstein sent ya!
Edit-After reading some reviews, I wanted to correct a few things mentioned. For one, the beans do have a sweetness to them. My wife actually guessed what the secret ingredient was. (We'll never tell)... Another reviewer said the burnt ends had no fat, and we're rather dry. After eating an order there, and adding 2 more orders to take home for dinner... These burnt ends were moist, juicy, and had plenty of flavor adding fat...the truth will set you free!

Great BBQ and probably the best ribs around. It's always a great atmosphere. Plus, my wife loves their bowls. She always gets excited to go for BBQ. :-)

Local BBQ. and sauce. Very delicious. The daily lunch special was big and filling. Lots of seating. There's even a big room for large parties. If you like BBQ and want to eat local, you gotta try this place!

We had the Tub cater my daughters wedding 5 years ago.Everything was excellent-- mixed fruit cobbler, Burnt ends + pulled pork + sides.

Stopped in last minute and had the Mac and Cheese with burnt ends and it did not disappoint! Good stuff, solid staff! Will definitely be going back soon!

I opted for the Hash Bowl. I wasn't disappointed! Burnt ends, sausage, pork, chicken, sauted onions and red peppers, fried potatoes and shoestring potatoes. Great taste. Not overdone. Friendly staff. Delivered more than I expected. Excellent sauces to top everything with. Just a great overall experience and no waiting.

The hillbilly bowl with had burnt ends and half pulled pork is amazing with their cornbread, onion strings, and cheesy corn.

This might be the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten. Easy to walk-in and get to go, or eat inside. Great portions for sharing and families.

It had been a couple of years since I had last enjoyed The Rub. So good! I was sad that the pork tacos were not on the menu anymore, but the burnt ends were awesome.

Great Macaroni, Fries, and Ribs. Great workers and atmosphere.
