On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina - Topeka

Let me tell you about my service Monday night December 4th 2023 at On the Border and why I Will Not be returning. Wanted some fajitas remember that on the border has some very good fajitas with this very good tasting garlic sauce. Looked at the menu seen that the fajitas were almost $10 more than what they normally cost but that's okay I'm treating myself. Place my order get,my order, noticed my shrimp we're just still attends to light pink for me so I asked the waitress if she could take them back and put them on the grill for maybe a couple more minutes. She told me that I could just put them on the plate and they will cook. 😩😡
I was not only pissed because, she said what she said..but how you gonna tell me how to eat my food when I'm paying for it..!!! After I kind of looked at her for a second, then said okay she walked away in another waitress came and I asked that waitress if she could get the manager for me. She did, the manager Tim came over it was very polite. I told him what happened he apologized and asked if I wanted him to take the shrimp back to be cooked or just get another thing of shrimp, at that point I just was over it and I said just take the shrimp off so he said he would adjust the price of my meal and I continue eating my meal which was not good at all. the Quality is not the same , chicken pork dried out the steak was ok, but that Garlic butter which was the main reason why I use to get the fajitas... I posted what it looked like😩😩🤢.
Will not be returning...

Was very good food and the serving size was plentiful. Service was excellent as well. I really like the setting and tables. I will be back.

Food was amazing. Also had a mango margarita that was very delicious. The hottest was very kind and understanding with my 4 kids. She even went out and shut my van door after someone left it open. The waitress was nice also. Service was a bit slow but overall great. The atmosphere is inviting and bathrooms were clean.

This was our FIRST TIME eating here..
The ONLY ISSUE, was the too spicy SALSA...
It would have been a PERFECT Night if the Salsa was actually able to be Enjoyed ..
I saw other Salsa Bowls not being enjoyed so I'm Confident that the Owner is hopefully aware that he needs to Change the Salsa he thinks is Edible..

Not having OtB for years Nd finding this gem tucked away was a dream! The food was exactly how I remembered it being and it didn't disappoint. I lived this place as a kid and now I live it as an adult too.

We had a super sweet waitress, who made sure, although she was brand-new, that we had good food to go along with our very lengthy lunch birthday

I've picked up my food to go from On The Border multiple times recently and have greatly appreciated the service and quality of food. The app has great offers and discounts, and the staff is super friendly and helpful.

First time here. The food was great. The server was fantastic and attentive.
Or hostess, Hailey, recognized my husband as a First Responder and told our server, who then told us of a discount. He would never ask for one, so that was so thoughtful and very much appreciated!

My wife and I had a nice lunch here together. The service was prompt and friendly. The food arrived hot and as ordered. The margarita drink special was a nice addition to the meal. We look forward to returning.

Not too sweet Marky marg and crispy chips with salsa and guac in a comfortable booth, friendly and attentive service (shout out to Katrina!) and air conditioned relaxing ambiance saved me yesterday. This is my go -to place to catch up with friends while I'm visiting family in Topeka.

Very good food, nice clean place very godd waitress, very knowledgeable about the different foods.

The strawberry margarita was perfect not to sweet and not to much alcohol in it. Perfectly well balanced and the food was phenomenal.

UPDATE:Things have been a lot better the paste couple years. So give it a go now it should be good to go.

We come here at least once a month and have only had a few issues over the years. This was by far the worst we have had our server Reiko seemed scared to be there. She was very quiet and you could hardly hear her when she spoke. It started out sketchy but did get better. She brought us new drinks when ours where half full and that's a big one for me. The only one she forgot the whole meal was my father's and he didn't get one refill. Then it's like she hit a wall and ignored us completely. My mom had to yell out to her when she walked past us to even get her to look our way. We sat for about 15 minutes, when we were done with our meal, before she even brought our check to us. Then we had to get someone else to ring us up because she ignored us. She couldn't even do simple math when we asked for a split check. It was just a bad experience and she either needs more training or find another line of work. She doesn't appear to be cutout for being a waitress.

For all the times I've been here I have NEVER had a bad experience. I have even seen mishaps happen in the restaurant and it's always cared for with professional behavior and kindness. Even if it is only a dropped glass or a food mistake. This being said, personally I have never had an order incorrect even when asking for a change or extra of something. The staff is kind and helpful. They're personable and do not treat customers like a number. They care for you with a smile and even when you can see they are tired, they act with professional kindness. It matters to them to do a good job and the food tastes amazing! Absolutely fresh and hot food that always makes a wonderful impression. The enchiladas are so delicious I could have them every time I go. The queso fresco is always fresh and good. Just an amazing place to eat overall.

Our waiter was Patrick - awesome server! Checked on us numerous times, got us our bill quickly, and added chips and salsa to our leftovers - enough for another full meal!

I went on a lonely, snowy night and had a really good experience!

My Son, brought me here for my birthday, the staff were friendly and we waited no more than 2 minutes before we got seated. Our wait person was excellent and friendly. We ordered our food and did not have to wait but a few minutes. Our food was brought out, well cooked and still hot. Best food I’ve had from a Tex-mex restaurant in a very long time. I will certainly keep going back.

I didn't leave feeling like I was bloated from tons of sodium a.k.a. salt. Some restaurants load up on salt to cover up how nasty their food really is. Not On The Boarder.

The most amazing experience my family and I have had eating out in years.
The food was perfect. Came out fast. Staff was engaging with me as well as my kids. My kids loved them. We felt like we had 3 people waiting on us. Most important, the place was clean even the kitchen. We left talking about how we should come back with friends.

It is one of the better locations for quality service. Servers are friendly, attentive, and go out of their way to take care of their customers. The food is great, and they're fast getting orders out. The atmosphere is the same as all the other OTB locations.
