They do ok work

DO NOT HIRE THIS CONTRACTOR. We hired Gold Seal to paint the interior of our home (3 levels and vacant) Their estimate was in-line with at least one other estimate we had received. He said he would have it done in a month after we put 40% down per the contract. Within 1 week, they had only completed the trim and ceilings on the upper level yet he was already asking for more money to pay his crew (1 1/2 guys). He had mentioned a draw at 2 weeks but that was with the understanding that 2 weeks worth of work (50% complete) would be done. When we refused to pay ahead of the contract, his crew stopped showing up and he (Curtis) stopped answering our calls. When he did finally return our calls after several days, he stated he was walking out on the job. He said he had spent the deposit on something else other than paying his crew. We have these conversations recorded. We paid 40% of the contract and less than 30% of the job got done. One of his guys did come back to fix some quality issues on his own time but we are still having to touch up lines, brush strokes, and extra coats.

I found Curtis to be very rude. I called and asked if I could get an estimate for painting two rooms, they said sure we can come out and look to give you an estimate. I could have told him the room size over the phone, to at least get a price range, but no. Sorry I wasted his time because when I turned down his estimate for being a bit high and having a lower quote from someone else, he was rude on his way out. “They’ll get paint everywhere” “you’ll go to jail if they’re not a liscenced contractor”. Nice try, you can’t scare me into hiring you. Bad business tactics.
