Burke County Register of Deeds

Not too sure what the bad reviews are all about. We had a very good experience, the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly and got us our marriage license quickly!

Privacy equals freedom is full of it. There is no such sign at the register deeds office. There is an employees only sign. Stephanie Norman is the most integrity driven person I’ve ever met in my life. She is kind and treats everyone with respect. She has always treated me and my wife with kindness and was so helpful in helping us get our marriage license and she goes out of her way to host veteran events and personalized weddings. The paying customers only policy with her bathroom applies to most general businesses not just the register of deeds office. Most businesses don’t just let people in to use the bathroom period, let alone someone who is not contributing to the business. For example G2k when it was in business didn’t allow the public to use restrooms. Being a tax payer is required by law. It doesn’t make you a special person that can libelously and maliciously make an ignorant comment that is simply not true or accurate. If you payed attention at all during the pandemic most government officials not just her advised people that if you could stay home to prevent the spread of a disease that has killed over 500,000 people in the states alone, then to do it. There is no one more qualified or better suited to be our register of deeds than Stephanie Norman. She has my vote until the day she retires.

And for anyone questioning their website due to other reviews; as someone who works with Register of Deeds websites across the state daily, I feel like I can help explain.

They switched from the Reuters system (like Mecklenburg county) to the Courthouse Computer System (like too many NC counties to name) which is vastly superior in usability. It is way easier to use all the way around, so it was absolutely a better call. It is completely secure and widely trusted across the state.

Made payment and was done. Very easy.

The staff is extremely helpful and professional here. They are friendly and willing to help and answer questions.

Everyone here is always so patient & helpful. Stephanie Norman is absolutely terrific!

Excellent customer service!

The current Register of Deeds doesn't have a professional bone in her body. She has a sign on the restroom that says "paying customers only" on a public building restroom inside of a building paid for with tax dollars. Mrs. Norman also feels as if she and her staff are entitled to paychecks while they hide behind closed locked doors while the rest of us are told to stay home and not work.
Maybe Mrs. Norman should take an economics course. It's time to replace this unprofessional public servant in 2024. I recommend avoiding this office as much as possible. Anyone but Stephanie Norman in 2024

I called this office and was treated like trash. I felt like I wasn’t worth something. I will never ever use this office again.

Rude staff. Time to vote in a new register of deeds again.
