One of the hidden gems of New York City with a breathtaking collection, including paintings by Velazquez, Zurbaran, Goya, El Greco, and others. The special exhibition of drawings by José Clemente Orozco was also great.

It was an incredible opportunity to check this museum at the time of an anniversary of the discovery. I was glad to read the name Pinzon on the walls of such a prestigious society.

A unique institution with a beautiful surgery of art from the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world only recently reopened after a long renovation. The current small exhibit, Nuestra Casa, includes works from the 16th to 20th centuries including an El Greco. I'm excited for the museum to reopen its large spaces to see what other treasures lie within.

An absolute gem located in upper Manhattan. Absolutely worth the effort to see the partial collection on view.

No tickets necessary: it’s a free museum in NYC!
Still not totally opened: keep coming back for novelties.

A hidden gem in Upper Manhattan. A library for the study of the arts and cultures of Spain and Portugal and their former colonies in Latin America, the Spanish East Indies, and Portuguese India.

Excellent museum (recently renovated and reopened) to see examples of Spanish culture through painting. Sorolla's "Visions of Spain" paintings are alone worth a visit.

The building and plaza outfront are amazing. It's like being in Europe. The current art exhibit is small but enjoyable. Can't wait for the entire building to be fully utilized.

Very nice museum showing art from parts of the world that other museums typically do not represent frequently. Well worth a visit and easily accessible by subway.

Unfortunately it is not yet open to the public the whole museum as it is under restoration. Nevertheless it is very worth the visit to see the wonderful room painted by Sorolla (Vision of Spain)

Unimaginable beauty.
Everything, courtyard, the building itself, neighboring buildings are very interesting.
But the paintings themselves are out of this world.

Saw the Nuestra Casa exhibit twice. Interesting and enjoyable. Most of the museum is closed for renovations, so right now everything can be seen in an hour or so. Recommend combining this with another local attraction, such as the American Academy of Arts and Letters next door.

I can’t express enough how thrilling it was to visit the Hispanic Society of America when I was in New York in 2015. I had known about the museum for awhile and knew it was special but until I took the long subway trip up there from Midtown, I wasn’t prepared for how magnificent a gem it is in the world of museums. The art collection is stupendous and the setting is equally arresting. I had the galleries to myself at certain periods and it was such a joy to get close to masterworks by Velasquez, Goya, Antonis Mor just to name a few. The building itself reminds one of Madrid‘s royal palace on the outside and the interior’s main two level gallery highlights old world craftsmanship with its architectural elements. Huntington gave to New York a wonderful treasure that is many times overlooked by visiting tourists. I highly recommend that if you are an art and museum lover that you visit The Hispanic Society of America when it reopens. I definitely plan to go back when I’m in New York.

Came for the amazing collection of Joaquin Sorrolla large scale canvases. It's like a holy experience to sit in front of these masterpieces. Stayed for the antiquities and the history and the great interpretive information. Don't miss Anna Hyatt Huntington's magnificent sculptures outside in the courtyard of this beautiful historic building. My favorite museum in NYC.

We took our children here this morning to participate in a group kids session and had a great time. It was set up like an informal art class, right there in the museum itself. It reminded me of my art classes in my university days, except it was geared at young kids 10 and younger. The program directors, Cristina and Marta, were really fantastic.

I would recommend taking your kids here for one of these sessions if you can. The sesions are conducted in Spanish and are a great tool for the kids (and parents) to meet other families and gain education in Spanish.
