One-of-a-kind experience and congregation, willed into continued existence for many years by the indefatigable Mr. Siggy Holzer, a community treasure. It was my pleasure to be part of this shul from 2008-19 when I lived in Washington Heights. I learned a lot about the history and fabric of the neighborhood from Siggy and others during my time here. Thanks are also due to Rabbi Kinderman, Shimon, and others who made it possible for this shul to survive and continue throughout the years. I'm grateful that another community member asked me to come to this shul to help with a Kol Nidre minyan there when I was new to Washington Heights and NYC overall. As someone long intrigued by American Jewish history, I am grateful to have been part of such a shul.

I was just given a lovely little impromptu tour by Gabrielle and Loki. What a beautiful synagogue! We are very lucky to have places like this in the neighborhood. Thank you so much for your generosity and hospitality!

Hello are you available to open synagogue today I am in the area. Thanks Hi I was visiting one of my clients in the area today and took a walk and spotted and stared at the synagogue. It looked abandoned and neglected. Is it still active. Thank you. Yes would like very much to see the shul. I am in the area every Thursday. Can you kindly send your contact.

My grandparents, Sidney and Helen Schaffer, and their children were refugees from Germany, and were members from the 1940s through the 70s. I was a Bar Mitzvah at the synagogue in September 1967. I have many wonderful memories of Beth Hamedrosh HaGadol.

5 Stars are reserved for Siggy Holzer who has kept this old synagogue going. Founded in 1916. Photos can be seen in the book, "Ten Times Chai: 180 Orthodox Synagogues of New York City."
