This is a very cozy place & Marcelo makes you feel very welcome. He makes the best. Cappuccinos 👌 will definitely be coming back for a cappuccino & dessert. The food was so good & not heavy, which I loved .We loved the mozzarella sticks, which didn't survive a picture. The service was excellent & they do not rush you 😀Definitely a food hangover...

This is a very cozy restaurant that is beloved by the neighborhood folks and folks from across the Hudson River in the neighboring New York City.

The food and the service are both personal, friendly and delicious.

I had one of the specials, pasta with garlic, olive oil with sausage, chicken and shrimp.

Marcelo the proprietor is attentive and reactive. The party experience was pretty good and the place is well managed.

PROS:
+ Pricing is reasonable off the menu.
+ Staff is very accommodating.
+ Service is fast and friendly.
+ Food is well prepared and portions great.
+ Communication before a party is excellent.

CONS:
- Parking Can be difficult. Be prepared to drive around for a bit.
- Making changes to a meal can be costly. Like 2x the cost of the entree.
- Lack of menu for children [but staff still accommodates well].

If you're looking for great Italian food in the area, then absolutely try this place. Its well located and cozy. If you're having a party, be very clear on what you are ordering and what menu you'd like to use. Also, understand that little ones may not have their own menu. Overall a VERY GOOD place.

My wife and I were sailing out of New York on October 23rd. We always stay at a local hotel the night before. I did a Google search for a small local Italian restaurant nearby and stumbled on Cavalino's. I made reservations not knowing how crowded Sunday night would be. What a great find. We walked in and didn't even give our name and we were seated immediately. it quickly became evident that Marcelo was the maitre d, waiter, bar tender, busser and chef. What a guy who did it all and made you feel welcome. The food was outstanding and I dine in a lot of Italian restaurants. It was one of the best dining experiences in long time. When I paid our bill I looked for Marcelo only to find him in the kitchen working away. I congratulated him on such a great meal saying I wish we lived closer. He informed me that they may be closing and said maybe we will meet again somewhere else because you never know what life brings your way. Hopefully he continues on in his craft. Thank you Marcelo and staff for a great dining experience.

Cavalino's reminded me of my visit to the Monaco region. Very clean and nice ambiance. The service was great. As visitors to the city I felt welcomed. The food was also great. We got the fried calamari which was not over cooked. We also ordered salads which did not have any iceberg lettuce in it, always a good sign, and was tossed with a house vinaigrette. I ordered the crab stuffed shrimp, which was tender and flavorful and my girlfriend got the tilapia which was not dry and very fresh. I highly recommend Cavalino's.

An incredible little corner restaurant that I am so happy I found. As soon as we walked in it was obvious that this is a local favorite, and when our food came out, I understood why.

Great place, right under my nose. Located in my neighborhood , it was a pleasant discovery. Marcelo is great, and funny, helpful, very accommodating, food is really good, the steak is really really good. And I worked in a steak house for more then 15 years. I know steak
. I'll be going back definitely!!!

By the way this place is closed. Does anyone know if it’s closed for good or they are just renovating? From the looks of it it’s over. Very Dissapointing.

The Early Bird Special alone is a reason to come here (Soup, Salad, and Main for $18). My friends had the steak and I had the meatballs. All were yummy! The service was also good. I will definately be back.

Great food and at an affordable price. We had the New York Steak and it was delicious. This place is a hidden gem!!

My family and I went for dinner to celebrate my sisters graduation. The food was amazing and the customer service was even better. The owner makes a point to connect with all of his guests, and he even put a candle on my sister’s dessert to celebrate her graduation! This is a wonderful place to have a relaxing dinner with those you love, however we ended up having to rush a bit due to other events and the owner not only accommodated us, but was so kind about it! My family and I will definitely be returning in the future!

We loved Cavalino's. First the intimate unique atmosphere, then the service and then the excellent food. Coming from Israel we were happy to find this nice place as a dining 'home' and we will definitely come back in our next visit to New Jersey! Thank you so much, Marcelo. Love it there the food is excellent, service is excellent and the atmosphere is like being home with family.

Because my parents are elderly (and due to Covid) we started ordering in for Thanksgiving. Now my mother is an EXCELLENT cook so it was no small task to replace her Thanksgiving cooking with restaurant take-out. We ordered the Thanksgiving specials and they were SO delicious! We plan to make it a yearly tradition and also to try all their other dishes.

Ive asked for small change to the side of pasta; many restaurants have refused because its a few extra clicks in their POS system but cavalinos never gave me a gard time and thus very friendly; Great family style service and the food is fresh and not heavy
