Mountain Jacks Steakhouse

This is the perfect splurge place in Lafayette for a fancy date night, or for a work outing (they can accommodate very large parties). Expect some high quality foods, smaller portions, and steeper prices.

Just as their sign would suggest, this place specializes in beef and seafood. And they do it very well. The coconut shrimp and calamari are amazing.

They have only a few non-beef/seafood options for those of us that prefer to keep our environmental impact lighter. These are also done well, but expect to lean towards the seafood and steak side if you do come here.

They offer a tableside salad as a side option with most dishes. Do it! It's nothing special, but it's a little bit more of a fun way to get your salad and shave off the guilt of what you're about to do to your waistline.

If you're really hungry, be sure to order an appetizer, as the main courses are modest in size.

We went to Mountain Jacks for a birthday dinner. The service was wonderful! I had the prime rib. It was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth. The crab stuffed mushrooms were very good as well. For dessert we had the mud pie and it was yummy. I highly recommend Mountain Jacks.

A local jewel in Lafayette, IN. This was our first time dining at Mountain Jacks Steakhouse. We were traveling and our hotel recommended it. We were blown away. My favorite part was the table side salad. They use a circular server with romaine lettuce in the center and all of your toppings around the side consisting of different vegetables, cheeses, mushrooms to sunflower seeds. You choose what goes on your salad. I got the house dressing which was exceptional. The main courses offer prime rib which my husband said is the best he has ever had to steaks, pork chops, chicken and fish. They did a fantastic job of handling my many food allergies. My salmon was grilled to perfection. The dessert selection was incredible. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The service was exceptional. If we lived in the area this would be our favorite restaurant!

Update: Received an apology from the owner and it was sincere which is very much appreciated. We are updating our review because of the sincere apology and offer to make it right.

1st: our server, Kiley, was wonderful and the food was good. Other than that, very disappointed in customer service from everyone else including the manager. We had reservations a week ahead of time and requested a booth in the bar. While we were not promised that booth, we requested a booth. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated right away to the absolute worst table in the restaurant - next to the kitchen - VERY small table and in the back. It was cold, noisy and unpleasant. The only saving grace was our server. The manager walked right by us 2x and never once made eye contact or asked us how everything was. The runner brought us the wrong food (again Kiley made it right). This was a date night for my husband and I. We drove 1.5 hours just to eat at Mountain Jacks and attend the Purdue/IU game. We expect better.

The food and staff were equally incredible. We had a little bit of a wait because of a basketball game at Purdue happening so there was a big crowd. The waiting was pleasant by the huge fireplace and comfy chairs they offer. It would probably be best with reservations regardless if there is a game. The salmon croquettes appetizers were crispy and I could have made a whole meal out of those. The anchovies on the Caesar salad are optional, I went for it to try something new. The house salads are made fresh in front of you from the table side salad bar. The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and the steak was prepared just right. We had eaten so much while there we took the majority of our entrees went home with us. When I’m back in Lafayette, we will be sure to stop again.

We had a delightful dinner at Mountain Jacks! The hubs had a ribeye baked potato and green beans and I had a filet Neil style with green beans and scalloped potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly. Our waitress Ally was very knowledgeable about the menu and suggested desserts for us. Overall it was a great experience. We did not have a reservation and got a table within a few minutes.

While visiting on a golf trip with my brothers, we wanted some quality food and we stopped here. We were not disappointed. The steak and prime rib were INCREDIBLE!!! Great ambiance and we had an amazing server. She was kind, helpful, and super chill! We thoroughly enjoyed our time and laughs. A must try!

2 Bottles of their sweet red, sweet and spicy tips, a NY Strip and a porterhouse will set you back about 200. 70 was wine. The steaks were cooked to perfection and well seasoned, absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was very quaint, ambient lighting from the fireplace, dining room lights dim, very romantic setting. It's a great experience here in Lafayette, would recommend.

An absolutely glorious dining experience and that is not an overstatement. We used to have one of these in my city but my family never went. They have no idea what they have missed. Heather our waitress was an absolute gem. Hospitable is not even the word she was beyond that. She amplified the experience ten times over. She is such an asset. On to the food. Every single course was superb. The salad wheel was a unique touch that elevated the dining experience. Not to mention it was delicious. The potato skins were more like potato wedges. Honestly they were probably thee best I have ever had. I had the NY strip and it was perfection. They cooked it just right and the sides (rice and baked potato) were delightful accompaniments. The dessert was also outstanding. Might have been my favorite part of the dining experience. The presentation of the dessert's is top tier. They bring them all out to present to you. Which isn't helpful because you just want to buy the whole cart lol. We settled on carrot cake and turtle cheesecake. Phenomenal especially the carrot cake. I loved it so much. I loved the whole experience so much I plan to come back to Lafayette just to come back to Mountain Jack's. Also I need to mention my bill for all that extravagance was 108 dollars. Can't beat that for the experience provided.

In business 53 years. You have to continue to deliver a high-quality product to stay open this long. Outstanding prime rib. You will not leave here hungry!

My son and I stopped here on our trip to Purdue since it was very close to our hotel. The food was amazing! We highly recommend this place as it is upscale but relaxed so don’t be afraid to visit here in a tee shirt or a tuxedo. The owner even came out and greeted us and told us some history of the restaurant. We will definitely go back!

Best MEAL I've had in a long time !! First of all we had the best waiter I've ever had. We started with Coconut Shrimp 🍤 they were the bigest best I've had anywhere. Salad 🥗 was good. Bread was great to. I had the baked Walleye to die for. Wife had NY STRIP cooked perfect! It's not just a restaurant it's an EXPERANCE ! Been there for a Looooong time. Give her a try !!

The customer service was amazing. Our waiter James was so great and accommodating. He helped us figure out vegetarian meals for the 3 of us and even had the kitchen staff adapt a pasta sauce to make it more flavorful while being vegetarian. It was super good. The rest of the food were also really great. We will be back!

First of all, the entrees come w so much food which is amazing 😍. I ordered the 10oz ribeye and it came with two sides, as well as a salad or soup AND bread. The bread was warm and there was butter, so I ate all the bread and I have no regrets. I got the soup, which was also amazing, I dipped the bread in it so COME ON.

The ribeye arrived timed perfectly and it was the most tender, juicy, delicious steak I've ever had. 10/10. I was too full I couldn't even finish my meal but I would have finished it up w the carrot cake had I of had room. The lady next to me at the bar ordered a beautify pink drink in a martini glass and that seemed like a solid winner of a drink.

I sat at the bar and had a lovely time, but it also would be worth the short wait for a table too. All the restaurant staff were cool and friendly too. Highly recommend.

Fantastic! Booked a reservation here with my dad when he was passing through town and we both had a great time. The restaurant has a very cozy, relaxed interior. The tableside salad bar was nothing special, but tasty nonetheless, and the house soup (chicken tortilla) was excellent. Of course, the prime rib was incredible - superbly juicy and tender. The green beans I had as a side were surprisingly good too! Would definitely recommend Mountain Jacks if you're looking for a nicer place to dine

This was such a great thanksgiving meal! Great food, cooked the prime ribe PERFECTLY! The ambience of the restaurant was great and well decorated. But KEVIN our waiter was so funny! He made the experience so much better. Thank you Kevin for being such a great server and for making sure we were well taken care of.

This was a treat for the celebration of 2 anniversaries. The food was delicious, the server did a nice job and the atmosphere was more formal than the usual sit-down dining experience, which is what we wanted for our special occasion.

I just received a personal phone call from the owner of the restaurant inviting me to come back so they could make it right. This is how customer service should work. A+

EXCELLENT! I truly enjoyed dining at Mountain Jacks Steakhouse. The food was top-notch, and our server, Aly, was wonderful!

Appetizers were calamari and crab cakes. Both were very good. I ordered the house cut prime rib rare with potatoes au gratin, and green beans. Every bite was thoroughly enjoyed. They make a great old fashion that compliments the meal. To finish things off, I enjoyed the crème brúlée and a cup of black coffee. The entire meal was fantastic.

The service was excellent, too. Our waitress, Aly, was personable and helped us make our selections. Super nice person who knows everything about the menu. We never had to ask for anything. She was on top of it and her entire section. She even helped another server after they had a little mishap in the dining area when their table side salad fell over and made a mess. They both got everything cleaned up quickly without making a distraction to the busy dining room.

The restaurant itself is really cozy with multiple fireplaces. Definitely stopping here again when we pass through Lafayette. I'm really impressed.

We went for my son's birthday and the food was excellent. I had to send my steak back because it was overcooked, and the staff responded with several apologies, a discount on my bill, and a perfectly cooked steak. We will definitely go back. The only "negative" I would have is that the lighting is a little low, so it was hard to read the menu.
