The temple is only reachable on foot crossing a bridge and going up a few steep flights of stairs. The elderly may find it challenging but if the knees are good then it will take a 15min walk up. Serene temple overlooking the canyon and mountain range.

Your Taroko Gorge hike isn't complete without a visit to this incredible temple! Start your journey with some snacks and drinks from the nearby 7-Eleven, then follow the trail adorned with captivating sculptures. As you make your way up, you'll be in awe of the temple perched atop the steep mountain.

What truly blows my mind is the effort it took to build this marvel in such a challenging terrain. Just imagining the dedication and hard work that went into it adds another layer of appreciation. Surrounded by the beauty of Taroko Gorge, the temple becomes a symbol of human determination and creativity.

Visiting this place isn't just about admiring its architecture; it's about connecting with the spirit of those who built it. The blend of nature, art, and spirituality creates a unique atmosphere that you won't find anywhere else. Trust me, this spot is a must-see for any nature lover or adventure seeker exploring Taroko Gorge!

Beautiful temple in a picturesque setting. The walk up involves quite a few steps but it’s well worth it. One of my favorite spots in Taiwan!

A peaceful temple (dedicated to Ksitigarbha) built on top of a hill surrounded by beautiful landscapes in the Gorge. Don’t miss this temple if you visit Taroko in early February, which is the time cherry blossoms here are in full bloom.

Awesome place! Just a little people inside, so you can enjoy silence and peacefulness. You can meditate or make your own practice. Time by time nuns came to the temple to make praying and it's really cool to be here at this moment. All the place is so inspiring. I love it and dream to visit again!

This temple is located on the mountain. You should spend an hour visiting this temple and enjoy the landscape, especially on December or early Jan.

Very peaceful place. According to the main temple face to east, suggest tourists to visit to see the sunlight shine on the buddies in the morning.

The golden Kṣitigarbha is the main deity who is the biggest Kṣitigarbha of the world.
Also, don’t forget the mercy white Guanyin who is the reason for the beginning of this temple.

Nested at the confluence of two main rivers, this temple is welcoming to foreigners. It has fabulous views and also a good vegetarian lunch - noodles and flat breads. Well worth a visit

Amidst the mountains and trees of Taroko National Park lies Xiangde Temple.
Walking thru the Phoo Dhu (teaching and transforming) bridge, it leads us across the huge river and onto the footsteps.
Take the steps slowly while enjoying the peace and tranquility that surrounds you.
As we reach half way through, a small cottage filled with knick-knacks have caught our eyes. Take your time to browse through, a little souvenir to bring home? You could get tea and herbal nectar to quench your thirst; or some snack for your growling tummy.

As we continue along, if you're observant, you'll see Guan Yin's motherly welcome thru the lush greenery.
A Buddha appears, who knows His name?
Another Pusa appears, smiling, who is He?
A pagoda sits atop the hill, as if to protect all beings within the vicinity.

As we reach the top, the scenery is heavenly, as if standing within the Earth Store Bodhisattva's pure abode (han - DiZhang Pusa; sanskrit - Ksitigarbha).
The golden image of the Bodhisattva stands majestically amongst the mountain.
Gratitude and heart of repentence fills us.
His gaze is compassionate, His teachings are that of filial piety.
Our heart and soul fills up with bliss.
At the doorstep of the temple, light a lamp to brighten your path ahead.
Breathe deeply and feel energised.
As we turn to witness the beautiful gorge below, our inner being fills with joy. And when spring comes, sakura blossoms everywhere.

This is the temple shown in the distance in the film 'Touch of Zen', where the fugitives are taken to be trained in martial arts.

Xiangde Temple is a peaceful and secluded temple, which is on a hill and require some walking to cross a bridge and some stairs climbing. There are a few different walk paths which lead to different small temples or pagoda to pray. Overall, I think that this is a good recommended place to go for praying to get blessings.

Gorgeous temples with beautiful surroundings. The trees are crawling with macaques, which are completely unafraid of humans, so watch out with little kids. Donations are not required, but the temple is expensive to maintain so please leave generously.
