Great temple. Small, but it has a great back story. It was interesting to see the different Buddhas on site. Great for a quick visit.

Wat Phra Thong (Wat Prathong), near the Thalang District Office, north of Phuket Town is famous for a half-buried golden Buddha statue called Luang Poh Phra Thong (Golden Buddha) in its grounds. Its other moniker is Wat Phra Phud, meaning 'Temple of the protruding Buddha;
The temple is a popular attraction for both local residents who come to pray and visitors who visit to see a large Buddha statue which only shows its upper half as if it emerges from the ground. There are several myths about the Buddha statue, been told in several styles, but all contains one main concept that no one could ever dig up this Buddha statue so people gave up, restored it as it is today, and named the statue Luangpho Phra Phut (“Buddha that emerges from the ground” in Thai).
Opening hours: 07.00 a.m. - 17.00 p.m.

Wat Phra Thong or Wat Phra Phut is a famous temple in Phuket. It is considered as one of the unseen tourist attractions because there is only half of the main Buddha image in the temple that looks like it has sprung up from the underground. According to history, it is assumed that this temple was built in the Ayutthaya period. Then it was abandoned. Then it was discovered during the early Rattanakosin period.

Beautiful and unique Budda Image with a legend behind it. After many attempts failed to fully excavate this Buddha image, this temple was built at the location it was buried to enshrine it and display the top half.
