Al-Shubaika Cemetery

Al-Shubaika Cemetery is one of the cemeteries of Mecca, and it is known as the Al-Ahlaf Cemetery. They are Banu Abd al-Dar bin Qusayy, Banu Makhzum, Banu Sahm, Banu Jumah, and Banu Adi bin Ka’b. Sheikh Ali al-Shahumi al-Maghribi had previously built a wall over it in the year 1274 AH and built a place in it for washing the dead. During the Saudi era, the wall of Al-Muqairah was renewed in the year 1374 AH in order to demolish it. Ibn Dhahirah said in Al-Jami’ Al-Latif: “Al-Fasi narrated on the authority of Al-Fakihi that the cemetery of Al-Muttayyin in ancient times was at the top of Mecca and the cemetery of Al-Ahlaf was at the bottom of Mecca. Then he said: It appears that the cemetery of Al-Ahlaf is this cemetery,” meaning Al-Shabika because it does not. It is known as the Sawaha Cemetery at the bottom of Mecca.

It is said this is one of the ancient cemeteries of Makkah where people used to bury their daughters alive. Allah knows the best.

I use to pass this place everyday while going for prayers, the place gave u goosebumps as there was an extreme brutality took place at this particular site in the era of those who thought that girls are a bad omen...

مقبرة الشبيكة احدى مقابر مكة المكرمة , وتعرف بمقبرة الأحلاف وهم بنو عبد الدار بن قصي وبنو مخزوم وبنو سهم وبنو جمح وبنو عدي بن كعب , وقد سبق أن بنى الشيخ علي الشحومي المغربي سورا عليها سنة 1274 هـ وبنى فيها مكانا لتغسيل الموتى , وفي العهد السعودي جدد بناء سور المقيرة سنة 1374 هـ لتهدمه.

قال ابن ظهيرة في الجامع اللطيف : نقل الفاسي عن الفاكهي أن مقبرة المطيين قديما كانت بأعلى مكة ومقبرة الأحلاف بأسفل مكة ، ثم قال : والظاهر أن مقبرة الأحلاف هي هذه المقبرة يعني بذلك الشبيكة لأنه لا يعرف بأسفل مكة مقبرة سواها ودفن الناس بها إلى الآن مشعر بذلك ..
