Porto A.S. 1829 Hotel

We loved our experience at Porto A.S. 1829 hotel last week!! We arrived after an early morning flight and were told our room wasn't ready yet (understandable) but that they could call us as soon as it was and they called by around noon which was so lovely so we could get into our room and relax. The hotel is small, there's not much lobby to speak of. There is a restaurant and bar attached but we didn't try either.
There are TONS of other great restaurnats in the square outside the hotel and in the few blocks surrounding the hotel. The location is phenomenal! There are definitely stairs and uphill climbs all around (but that's Porto). It's a short walk to cathedral and many other sites. We did a small "train" tour (open train car on the road) that was lovely to get an understanding of the lay of Porto.
The front desk was very helpful with any questions we had. The AC worked very well in the room which was a blessing in the midday heat.
We booked a familiar room which was perfect for our group of three adults! It includes a bed on the main floor/entry and a short set of steps up to a loft with another bed! There was AC in both locations. The shower room is a bit small (typical of Europe) and my main complaint is that the shower stall is not completely enclosed, but has a small bit of glass and is open to the bathroom. It was definitely functional but a bit messy. The sink is outside the shower/toilet room. There are slippers and robes included for all guests which was a nice touch.
No wardrobe per se. But there was a space to hang a few things. There is also a mini fridge which was very welcome to store waters and fruit.
All in all a lovely place to stay in Porto!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect -- on one of the prettiest streets right in the center of everything. The reception was welcoming, helpful and friendly, and we loved our room which had a sitting room where we could watch all the activity around us on both sides. The attached restaurant is also nice and has great service. Definitely recommended for your stay in Porto.

The breakfast buffet was excellent. So does the location. Nice historical building, but our room was somewhat inconvenient for a 4 star hotel room. Weak heater. Small and hard to access closet space for winter clothes

Great hotel, location was perfect. Was our first time to Portugal and the hotel was situated close to the various attractions we had hoped to see. Would definitely book again.

We had three nights here and from the start to finish the stay was brilliant. From the early check in till when we left it felt pretty special staying there. The young lady at check in was excellent, warm and caring. The room was great and very quiet. Breakfast was everything that you needed and more…it kept our tummies quite full for most of the day. The little glass of port and a pasteis de nata or two was a nice touch as well. Location was great and Porto was amazing.

Perfect location. Practically the middle of anywhere you want to go and surrounded by beautiful buildings. Very close to the board walk which I think was the best place to people watch.

Had a wonderful time! The room was great and the hotel is in a great location. The staff are lovely- especially the lady who greeted us I'm the evening. Breakfast is pretty standard hotel buffet but done pretty well - both myself and I enjoyed it. Recommended!

Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location, right in the heart of Porto.

Hotel was really well kept, clean and well appointed. Our room was lovely, spacious and the bed extremely comfortable.

The service was excellent, all staff were helpful, kind and very knowledgeable about the city.

Would not hesitate to stay here again!

The best hotel in Porto! Such fantastic service and communication. The room was comfortable, clean and very well equipped. It was so handy for the main tourist attractions but also very peaceful and quiet. The food was of excellent quality. I cannot recommend it enough!

This place is just lovely! Live piano and violins during breakfast service and some of the best scrambled eggs I've ever had ... the rooms are unique and the grounds are amazing. The only thing is the pool down in the spa completely bleached my swimsuit so that was a little annoying because it wasn't an Amazon cheapie suit and the thought of soaking my whole body in those chemicals doesn't sit well. Other than that we loved the place. Just don't go in the dead of summer. The ac doesn't suffice.

We had a 3 night stay and I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s beautiful inside and out, the rooms were perfect. Beds were very comfortable including the linens. There was music playing outside of our room but it always ended at around 10pm so it was never a problem and very common here in Porto. The customer service was excellent and I’m very picky! I can specifically speak of Rui and Cindy, but the whole staff went out of their way and very courteous. There was zero noise and we slept great. I could not have asked for a better experience truly. Thank you thank you, you made our stay in Porto the most memorable. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Highly recommend. Also the breakfast was espectacular and included I looked forward to it every morning.

Right in the middle of very busy tourist area, seemed a little crazy. Overall the staff very nice, as was our room.

However at check in, they placed us in a room which was 2 level category's under what we paid extra for. Thankfully after explaining to them, they indeed placed us into an upgraded room.

This was the perfect hotel for me in Porto, it is a smaller property which gave the whole experience a more intimate feel. From check-in to check-out the staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. Whenever I had a question, they were welcoming and helped me find an answer. The property is beautiful and perfectly located for exploring the Old Town around the river. It had a great mix of modern amenities but maintained the character of the neighborhood. My room was a little small but very comfortable, clean and had a double-door balcony that opened to an amazing city view. The restaurant has great décor again blending modern with an old-world charm. The breakfast buffet had a good choice of cold and hot options; it was open from 7:30 – 10:30 which gave me the flexibility to sleep later some days. I was visiting Porto as a tourist, and everything I wanted to see was a comfortable walking distance from the hotel. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a great place to stay in the Ribeira area of Porto.

Amazing, helpful and welcoming staff, prime location. They surprised me with a delicious cake and champagne for my birthday:-). Superb stay, one of the highlights of my trip. I highly recommend this hotel!

The location was spot-on. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the rooms, though small, were tidy, with a comfortable bed. I'd certainly choose to stay there again.

Really lovely hotel! Super centrally located. They also have an elevator, which is great (I was on crutches when we arrived after an injury, so this was a huge perk). Rooms were great! We booked a small room and it was not as small as we expected. Be aware that it's so centrally located that there are musicians basically playing concerts literally right outside the hotel. It's AMAZING if you want to go outside and watch, dance, etc, but they play late into the night! Bring earbuds if you book a room with a view :) Otherwise, book a small room, because they will be facing the courtyard where there is less noise.

Location is fantastic, able to get to the water very quickly, but also right into the heart of the city. Since Porto is a very walkable city we were able to walk around everywhere and could stop off at the hotel during the day. It’s nice how lively the little corner is as well with restaurants and live music people playing into the night. Very cool design of the rooms and quite liked the bathtub (with shower) in the room! The small bottle of wine on arrival was a nice touch.
