A huge range of books (English, French and Portuguese), and the editions made in store have beautiful design art and covers. It's worth the price, in my opinion. The place was extremely busy and felt a little cramped at times. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The architecture was gorgeous; it was worth a visit just for the view of the stairs & ceiling. The cost to get in is €8pp (book online and scan the ticket to enter), but you can redeem the cost against any book you buy per person.

What a highlight when in Porto ! Definitely buy tickets online before going, and expect lineups, even with a scheduled time. It is well worth a bit of a wait.
We arrived 1/2 hour earlier and there were lots of people already in line.
Everyone does get in, though, and it's a photographer's delight. With a grand staircase and beautiful wood bookcases filled with old books, it's a great way to spend an hour. Of course, Harry Potter fans will love this place.

It's worthwhile to wait 2 hours in the rain to visit the LL. After you step into the front door, you feel the whole world is changed. The atmosphere naturally brings books to you even you are not in the mood. It seems you have the key to open any door and it is so different from the noisy outside. It is one of my lucky days to be there on their 118-year anniversary celebration. Besides the admission is free, you got a piece of free yummy cake! There are some collections on the back of the 3rd floor. I wish I could spend more time there.

Very beautiful aesthetics inside. The booking process to get into the library was relatively easy if you know how to order tickets online. The inside was very well designed and inspired the Harry Potter universe with its aesthetics. There was a huge selection of books including French, English, and Portuguese literature. Of note, they sold special versions of certain books, such as The Little Prince, storybook stories, etc. The ticket that you pay counts towards books that you buy, so it's a good idea to buy some books as souvenirs.

Amazing bookstore - definitely inspirational. Highly recommend going as close to closing time as possible. We walked by at multiple times throughout the day and the line was so long, but 1 hr-30 mins before close, it was very small. Waited maybe 10 mins to get in.

When you buy a book in the store, your ticket price is also subtracted from the total of the book cost which was great! The staff was very knowledgeable and pointed us to excellent choices.

a must visit when you are in port. and be sure to buy a forward ticket and get there ahead of time. The bookstore is beautiful, but unfortunately it is too crowded. too many people are let in at once and there is not enough space to move normally. too bad

The place is unique and beautiful. I also love the book covers and their book choices. The place is kinda crowded and hard to move at times. But still it was quite a different experience and artsy library to visit. One of the firsts and beautiful libraries around Portugal and the world. Be sure to buy your ticket online, ahead of time. You can also use the ticket to purchase a book from them.

A real architectural gem. It is worth getting to the bookshop as early as possible otherwise there are long queues. The staff are very helpful and friendly. There are so many different books to choose from covering all languages and subjects. It is worth going up to the second floor and the strange staircase, then looking down into the store.

I recommend booking in advance, although I managed to get a 14:00 slot for the next day.

Be prepared for the queue, however once inside, be prepared for the magic.

I love my book stores, but this one is from another world. Absolutely beautiful, cannot recommend enough.

A book about Harry Potter was written under the impressions of the interior of this library. It's a fascinating place. They only allow entry with an online-purchased ticket. 8 euros for a bit of excitement.
There, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's bracelet is also kept.
By the way, on the upper floor, the wooden railing is unexpectedly low and, due to this, dangerous. In fact, I almost fell from the top floor. I would advise the library owner to take measures for the safety of visitors.

This is an absolute must-see in Porto, especially if you're a book lover! The tickets can be bought in advance or at the entrance via QR code so you can secure your time slot. We got the option that is €8 p/person and gives you a discount on a purchase. I got a book that was originally €15 for just €8. It didn't take more than 15minutes to get inside, and it had a wide variety of books in many languages, cool merchandise, and beautiful decor.

If there is one touristy thing u have to do in Porto, this has to be it! Buy a euro 8 ticket voucher online and u will get a 8euro discount when u buy a book or u will have to pay almost double the cost to visit this unique bookstore. Lots to explore in the store. Take your time. Most importantly to book your ticket voucher online.

You should get the ticket in advance. Even with the ticket, you have to wait in line. But the wait line moves pretty quickly. Once my time came, was able to get in to the store in about 15min.
It was surprisingly beautiful inside. It was extremely crowded with people trying to take some photos on the stairs. However, it had great selectiona of literatures and staffs were very helpful and friendly. You could get reimbursed for the entrance ticket if you get something from the store. Not all of the products qualified, so make sure to ask the clerk at the register.
Such a beautiful and interesting library.

Gorgeous bookshop, with their own editions of classics in many languages. I created a mini collection while I was there :)
Just make sure to buy timed tickets in advance.

Beautiful bookstore! We purchased our tickets online while we waited in line and were inside within 10 minutes. Tickets were €8, but that’ll get you €8 off any book. Definitely worth a stop while in Porto, but expect a crowd!

Really enjoyed the visit. As other reviewers mention, the price of your ticket is redeemable on books in the shop. There are some stunning hardback editions of classics published by the bookshop themselves, which would make a good souvenir; they come in different languages and I chose a Portuguese classic (The Maias) in English translation. This was €19.90 - €8 ticket = €11.90 total, but the smaller hardbacks are less - lots around €16.

I visited during the last slot (6.30pm) on a rainy Monday in January and it was still busy, though I didn't have to queue for entry. They close at 7pm, and this was enough time for the visit.

If you're a bookworm, it's very much worth a visit, but you will have to look past the crowds.

TIP: do NOT buy €8 voucher and stand in line for hours to get in. Instead buy €15,90 voucher for Romeo & Juliet and enter without waiting. Why? If you are planning to use your voucher to buy a book, you can use it ONLY for the books they publish and the cheapest one costs 15,90, so you'll spend at least the same amount anyway. I would consider €8 voucher only if you are a big group and plan to use 2 or more vouchers to buy one book.

I think it's a must visit when in Porto. It is unique and gives you Harry Potter vibes if you're a fan. It's good to note that you need tickets to enter the library, and entrance is every half an hour, due to the large crowds visiting. It's

You should buy a ticket in advance, otherwise you will be disappointed after queuing.

The ticket gets you the same monetary value off a book, which cost around 15 euros.

Be prepared to queue, this is a very popular destination, but it is worth it. The store really does feel magical, and should not be skipped if visiting Porto. The most beautiful bookshop in the world lives up to its moniker.

Ok, so important to state upfront that there is a crazy rush of people, 8 Euro person entry fees and a less than spectacular book collection.

Nevertheless I will still give it a 5 star for just the awe and wonder it gives you upon entering and then in climbing the stairs to the floor above. It is Spectacular...

There are both English and Portuguese book collections with special exhibits on the sides. The book prizes were relatively reasonable for the quality of the copy and I was happy to get some beautiful hardbound editions. Every ticket allows for only one book price to be reduced by 8 Euros, so if you are 2, then you need to buy 2 books and so on.

Overall a must visit if you are a book lover or need to know how a Harry Potter library would have looked like in real life...
