Great place to spend a few hours if you include a stop for a snack and beverage.
Lots of interesting history, great views and the gardens are lovely. Worth a visit, especially during the week when it is quieter. Some parking near the entry. Museum is only a 4 min walk away so buy a ticket for both at the castle and save.

Fantastic castle, with amazing views from the tops of the castle walls over the town of Silves. The castle is dog friendly and they must remain on leads at all times. Entry fee only 2.80€ per adult. The walk around the walls can be quite high in places and doesn't have a safety rail all the way around it, so keep a hold of your child at all times, or if your a little unsteady on your feet then maybe don't venture up onto the higher walkways. Some very interesting displays of old artifacts that were found within the grounds. A very interesting place to spend an hour or so.

This red fortress dominates the town of Silves, and is as impressive to visit as it looks. Beyond the walls, there is not a huge amount left inside beyond the archaeological remains of the Almohad Palace. However, you can easily spend more than an hour doing the complete circuit of the walls at a leisurely pace, exploring the ruins, and enjoying the superb views. There are information boards in four languages at the key points, plus a café and toilet facilities in the middle of the complex. Definitely worth our trip from Faro (and the walk from the station), and it is very cheap and open throughout the day.

Excellent visitor place to go. Some people do not go past the shops on the lower level. But venture a little bit higher and explore the old town and castle, you will not be disappointed. Find the little cafe/restaurant too, beautiful.

This was a small but interesting castle. All the placards had English translations, and the views from the ramparts were lovely. There is also a very clean bathroom on site.

I love it! In Silves, Portugal they take good care of the castell and for almost 4 Euros you can enjoy it with the Museum too. The history is amazing! You can imagen the Islamist living there and after when the Christians arrived.

Interesting old castle, lovely view of the area. There is a cafe in the middle but unfortunately it was closed for 2 weeks renovations. Not expensive entrance, only € 2.80 per person.

Not crowded when we visited. Doesn't seem to be necessary to buy tickets in advance. We walked up - be prepared for a steep-ish climb if you walk. Parking might be tricky, but free parking is down the hill near the river some minutes walk away. One of the nicer castles we've visited in Portugal. Beautiful grounds, inspiring views, interesting historical ruins and finds on exhibit. A great relaxing few hours - very enjoyable. Don't skip the castle when you come to Silves.

Good castle, lots to explore. Only a few euros entrance, and though the restaurant was being worked on and closed , it looked good.

Incredible location , dominating views of the surroundings, fabulous condition. Above all, they allow dogs!!! There is a restaurant inside that is very relaxing with a view of the whole castle

Lovely castle and less than 3 euro per person. We spent an hour and a half here and walked the whole castle wall, and climbed each tower. It was getting busier by the time we left, so i would recommend getting there the first hour of opening. We also went in the Easter holidays, so we were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was.

Very well kept castle would recommend. Also, try the iced tea orange blossom in the centre of the castle cafe . 👌

Went here for my school filed trip, enjoyed it to say the least. Didn't really get to spend much time or explore much of it's areas but still beautiful and extremely picturesque, my phone wasn't working for some reason so didn't really to get photos of it on my phone but atleast I saw it. Overlooks the city and has a great view of it, would love to visit again if I got the chance.

Went in the evening for the local medieval festival. It was great and only €11 each for entry and 2 shows. Although the music and dance show was not to our taste so we left early. A pretty old village. Would love to go back during the day to see the castle itself properly

A lovely situation and wonderfully restored castle walls. We had a light lunch and then walked the walls and enjoyed all the views. And it was ridiculously cheap to enter. €2.80 each with 50% discount for students and over 65yrs old. Wonderful.

Lovely castle with great views and a cafe with good food and decent prices. We were able to park for free on the street 5 minutes away. Entry prices are cheap and you can easily spend a few hours wandering around and getting something to eat. There's an interesting display about Iberian lynx downstairs. The gift shop has some nice little mementos, again not expensive.

Absolutely without a doubt a MUST see. As usual, the history of Portugal is amazing. Only to be matched by the kindness of its people. The time spent saving and preserving shows and the phenomenal job continues.

Silves Medieval Fair at the castle. Finishing on 20th Aug. Not to be missed. Absolutely unforgettable experiences await you here. Everything for the family and those who seek a fabulous place to gather lovely memories. Experience the melange that impacts the senses on all sides in the narrow cobbled streets. From the numerous street food stalls to enthralling music and incredible dancing. Suggest you park on outskirts if you can and walk in. Or go earlier. A lot of traffic!
