O Lagar - Restaurante / wine bar

Pedro, his wife and their team are so attentive. The food is sublime, only typical Portugese so a real flavour of The Douro region. V v reasonably priced, a wonderful restaurant but you MUST reserve a table, no walk-ins. Husband is coeliac and this was no problem. Thank you so much O Lagar.

Pedro is one of the nicest people we met in Portugal, and he built a place that is 100% made of passion and love to local food and good music.
The food is “comfort Portuguese food” which means Pedro and his wife cook it the same day, it’s all fresh and it’s served in a size of a small mountain 😅

Most enjoyable was the special wines served trough out the night , a lot of them home made

Amazing place. Family restaurant, with perfect home made food. They are focus in wood oven cooked meat, but made us perfect vegetarian meal. In a remote small village, with amazing views on the way. Go there, it is worth it!!!

We got to this place by mistake. Just because we were near by. Sweet suprise!!!
The owner, Pedro, hosted us like the loyal couple and we had a great lunch.
He started with some tapas if meat and cheese he made himself, as well as douro wine if his own (!).
Then, we moved inside, to the restaurant for a full lunch. Fresh ingredients, fish, meat and vegtables. Just perfect! Look for it, dont give up. We promise you a great experience

The food was incredible. A true taste of local cuisine, expertly cooked.

It was a very intimate experience where we got to share life experiences over good food and wine. We laughed with the owner over stories and mice experiences, made great connections and shared a passion for good music.

The food. I love that we got to enjoy a “cooked like home” meal without worrying. The wine was amazing, the hospitality is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

The restaurant is open for reserverations only, but I can highly recommend to make a reservation and go. It's incredible.

There is no fixed menu (as far as I know), but you get a comprehensive experience of the local specialties, heavy on meat and fish – not for every day, but for a special occasion, this restaurant is highly recommended! We celebrated a birthday there and the experience was outstanding. Great local ("home made") wine and port, great food, nice music and a cozy atmosphere makes this restaurant a gem.

The only regret was that we discovered this ABSOLUTE GEM on our last night in the area. Pedro made us realise that great service at a Portuguese restaurant is actually possible. We agreed to be taken on a culinary extravaganza by him, bringing out one local dish after another and boy did we love every one of them! We never saw a menu and he gave us a fantastic bottle of wine, so I must admit after the 8 courses (we couldn’t say no to any) I was slightly concerned about the final bill. I nearly fell off my chair when I received it! In fact, I felt compelled to leave a generous tip to feel a remote level of fairness. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

First of all: We highly recommend going! It's great. Make sure to call beforehand.

The interior is a composition of tradition and photos of famous musicians. - Music will always be in the background, which ads up to a welcoming atmosphere!

The food is amazing! You'll get various traditional starters and a main - plus wine of course.
We especially liked the sausage from the douro valley. So we were offered more :)
The service is very courteous and warm-hearted.

Make sure to eat slowly so you can finish every course.

O Lagar is a must visit for anyone in the Douro Valley area. Our decision to visit was largely based on the excellent reviews and it did not disappoint!

When we arrived we were greeted by the wonderful owner. Our conversations with him throughout the night were one of the highlights of the experience.

The food is authentic and of great quality. We can’t wait to return the next time we are in the area!

WOW! What an incredible experience!!
We were staying at the Quinta da Barroca and decided to venture out one afternoon. We found this wine bar and google and decided to walk there for an afternoon visit.
We had no idea there was a private party (a wine cruise) and that reservations were required for lunch - but despite being full to the brim - Pedro, the owner and his staff welcomed us with open arms!
They brought us some homemade Vinho Verde and tasty snacks and even taught us a little about their village and some Portuguese words.

We even got invited into the private party for some dancing and local music! We capped it all off with Pedro's delicious homemade port and great conversation.

It was a hidden gem and the best Vinho Verde we had the whole trip!! Thanks for the wonderful memories!!!

We arrived here by accident...and we were amazed! The warmth of the place, the elegant decoration, the high quality of wine and food. And last but no least our host! Kind and smiling!! Hope I will be able to come again!!!

Found this place while researching a running route from Quinta Barroca - it turned out to be a great surprise! Reserved a table for two for the following evening by calling Pedro, the owner, who spoke very good English. We were the only guests the whole evening and we were given a huge 5 course dinner served with homemade wine by the jug! The locally caught grilled fish was a highlight. Pedro was really friendly and helpful all evening. It was also excellent value for money - I recommend a meal here if you are staying close by.

I can’t recommend enough! The way Pedro engage with his clients is outstanding and the food is just unbelievable good!! Definitely a place where I will return!

Pedro - the owner and chef - is an absolute legend and should be cooking in one of Porto‘s most famous restaurants. We‘re glad though we found him and his lovely restaurant on our travels through the Douro Valley.

Pedro is super welcoming and extremely passionate about his food and wine (try his Bacalhau, a family recipe, and you won‘t be disappointed). And make sure to wash it all fown woth the Moscatel de Casa. Thanks for the authentic Portuguese experience to remember, best Philipp and Anna!

This place is special, you need to make reservations. You get treated as if you were in your own house. The food was great, so was the wine. Just make sure you have time to enjoy your meal. I'll be back for sure.

We really liked to eat on Lagar restaurant, for me it was the best attendance I had. The food was very good, and we loved the company of Mr. Pedro.

Sweet little family spot where we were treated like one of the fam! We made very few decisions and were just brought a sampling of things …. A refreshing change
