Baleal Beach

Baleal is a small island located 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) north of Peniche, in the western region of Portugal, separated from the mainland by a tombolo. ( sand-bar joining an island to the mainland) Baleal has a past related to whaling. Baleal has become a major vacation spot with a potential for water sports almost unmatched in Europe. The coastal shape, namely the bay and northern strip of coast associated with Baleal create unique conditions in Europe for the practice of surfing and body boarding.

Gorgeous beach. Great for families, light surfing, and beach walks. Has several small shops and restaurants. Clean, clear water. A few places you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and surf boards.

Fantastic location even for catching sunset and watching surfers!

Went out to the point. Was very cool until our dog found some fishing line with a hook on it. Luckily, we were able to get it out of her mouth without the hook getting stuck. But beautiful area.

Super nice Beach with cool Restaurants/bars and rental surf shops. The waves were just perfect today for surfing. It really is a paradise here with a RV parking (day/night) just across the beaches.

Great beach in the peniche area. Especially for surf beginners, it is usually easy fun waves on summertime.

Fantastic beach for beginners. Baleal has beaches that poit north, west and south, and is a perfect location for people like me who need waves at 1-2m and bars and restaurants nearby😏

Nice surf spot with nice view on both side of the two beaches. There is a Ripcurl hotel nearby which mean that this surf spot if quite famous and well ranked (for those who like surfing)

Best beach to be all year round. If you are a surfer you will have offshore winds in pretty much all wind direction. If the swell is too big there is always a smaller wave by the corner of the bay. If you are just a beach lover, the water is clear and all the great beach bars for drinks and snacks. It's a great place to be.

We loved Baleal and Peniche. We visited for surfing lessons (complete beginners) and it was perfect. Good waves, sandy beaches and loads of schools. Beaches are clean and long, dog friendly which we loved!
