Pick up in the city return at airport. Very nice people, clean procedure, transparent policy. Amex is welcome. Will come back again.

There are mixed reviews but in all honesty, we had a great experience with Europcar. We visited Madeira in September so maybe when it's during peak period, there more people and more stress. But the staff was very nice to us, could speak French as well.

At first I took a manual basic car, the staff recommended me an automatic and a bit more powerful (Jeep) car for the mountains and sharp angle roads, I thought of course that it is standard seller procedure to try to make you upgrade your offer, but I gave in as I wanted to try a bigger car and the price was interesting. I was so lucky to have this Jeep ! The road can be very difficult with its angle, people parked on the road, bad visibility, the automatic car help me to focus more on the road and not switching gears all the time.

We brought back the car with a refuel and had no issues for the return. The car inspector was nice too and had no issue with English.

Overall, I would recommend Europcar, maybe to avoid rush hours and peak season if you want a smooth experience with the staff, as they can be stressed and tired facing rude customers.

This has been the most seamless, positive rental car experience I have ever had. Angelo was phenomenally helpful in getting me and my party set up with a large van to accommodate us. We had a tire blow due to strenuous road conditions up the mountain and thanks to his recommendation of getting roadside assistance in addition to the insurance I had originally purchased, we were able to get situated with the exact same make and model in less than 2 hours with no additional charge. It was stress and hassle free in what could have been a trip killer. I read many reviews of rental car companies to use in Madeira and Europcar consistently rose to the top, and through my experience I can see exactly why! Thank you to Europcar for helping my friends and I have the trip of a lifetime, I will definitely be using their services on any return trip.

We were worried about renting a car in Madeira as we had read some awful reviews but we chose to rent in Funchal rather than at the airport. We met the most wonderful lady called Giselda who worked in Europcar and she made everything so simple we got a wonderful car with full insurance(I would advise this) and the pick up and drop off were perfect. I would definitely choose them again and found the entire process very easy. :)

We asked for a car at the reception in our hotel PortoMar in Funchal. We had it delivered from Europcar, which we have used before. The car wasn´t brand new but functioned well. We could use the hotels garage and the reception for returning the car keys.
Overall a problem free car service.

My best experience with a car rental company. I've booked several cars here for the past 3 months and there are no additional fees, as long as you have a credit card (the same applies to all rental companies on the island though). The service is really good and unlike Hertz, they told me about the bad conditions of the roads but didn't push crazy for me to upgrade my booked car. Thanks, and will definitely rebook with you again in May !

I had made a reservation in advance, including separate access insurance. It was easy when I got to the disk, no nagging about additional insurance or other type of car. Quick and easy access to the car and helpful staff all the way. Very happy with this rental experience.

Excellent. Everything went smoothly. There were several types of insurance options. Our insurance was refunded in full. The staff were extremely competent & professional.

The prices weren't the best when booking in person, but we got a vehicle with a stronger engine for slightly less than the other companies compact cars.

Having been told by some friends of a horrible car renting experience in Madeira, we walked in Europcar Funchal, not even sure we wanted to rent a car and from the first second Marilia's service was outstending. She made us feel welcomed, answered all our questions and recommended routes and apps we can use to get the best experience while using the car. She never pushed to close the deal and encouraged us to think about it and only get the car if we are 100% ready but also reassured us that the price stand and the car would be ready. We have returned the next day and got the car for 3 days just to find out that Marilia upgraded us for the same deal (February 2022). Like the service wasn't already amazing.
A real asset to the business, Marilia stood out as a thoughtful, empathic professional that I cannot recommend enough. Let's be honest, everyone can rent you a car, the service makes the difference.
This is not the first time we have used Europcar, they have never let us down.

Excellent service and good clean car

Friendly service. Staff were very calm even when having to deal with abrupt customers insisting that they didn't have to pay for fuel... Car was clean and mechanically sound, pick up and drop off were smooth. The location was really great for me. As I booked online, I couldn't comment on their on the day prices

We had no issues whatsoever and the car provided (Volvo V40 D2) was a perfect fit for Madeira roads. The service was a bit slow, but the staff explained they were testing a new software, so it should improve over time.

We are very happy with the service of Europcar. They provided us even a carupgrade which was very nice! The employees were very very kind, especially Nelson.
