This narrow and unassuming place hides probably the best food we've had in Porto, and the cheapest.

We had the feijoada, the portion size is huge, and it's so generous in the different meat cuts.

The staff is very nice and they almost anticipate everything you'll need and make great recommendations (the deserts in particular were a great suggestion)

This family-style restaurant had a bit of a diner feel, the tables were fairly close together but the atmosphere felt cheerful and homey. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

Really nice restaurant that has a very local feel to it. The portions were generous and the food was very tasty. The price was unbeatable but I'd recommend to come in early since it's quite popular and one might need to wait for a table.

Delicious authentic Portuguese food were locals go for lunch or dinner. Local and not overpriced tourist prices. It gets busy sometimes, and you may find a line to get in. Prices are less than 10 euros for a main dish. Try fresh fish- sardines, robalo, dorada, and of course, have a coffee or a dessert. The server downstairs was very friendly and professional. 100% Recommended

Takes a little long to get a seat but this tells you about how good the food is. O Buraco is a must if you’re traveling to Porto. The grilled salmon was very very good.

The duck rice is delicious! A small restaurant with incredible food and very reasonable prices. I wish I’d been able to eat more meals here!

I already fall in love with Portuguese food. I don't like sardine but I asked the staff and she recommened it, so I just tried it. And it changed my mind at all. I think I love sardine😂 If you don't want to wait in the que, you come here around 12pm.

We were recommended this restaurant by a local and I am so glad that we went! We started with the cod dumplings, bread and a salad. Then we had the grilled sea bass which was amazing with some boiled potatoes and tomato rice. The red wine was chosen for us as we didn’t know what to pick and it went so well with our meal. Then for dessert, we were asked if he could choose what we had and of course we said yes - a trio of desserts was bought to us and they were delicious. To top it all off, we were offered a wonderful glass of port. Highly recommend! The service was fast, the food was excellent, and the prices were great too.

We were taken here by a local friend. Amazing! If you visit Porto and don’t eat here you’re missing out on a really great food experience.

Our meal started with wonderful gush appetizers. Then fried sardines, which were to die for. Then the most amazing comfort food dish, veal with potatoes, which just soothed.

Our host was so wonderful and he made our dining experience special.

Wonderful place to have dinner, great service and super tasty food. We were expecting them to be slow since the place was completely packed but to our surprise they were very efficient and nice.
We especially recommend the frango (chicken curry), which although not very traditional was delightful. Their soup is also amazing and very cheap. We ended the meal with deserts (super good) and ended the meal with Porto wine, which helped everything go down (they serve a good pour).

We stayed in an apartment near by and the owner highly recommended it. If you google it or walk by, it doesn’t look like much but honestly the best food we had in Portugal so far. The place was packed solid even when we left around 10:00 but don’t let that deter you. We didn’t wait long and we are a family of 5. Did I mention it was INSANELY CHEAP? Don’t hesitate to go and experience local food…you won’t regret it.

Lunch at O Buraco was top notch! We happened to be there a few minutes before opening which was good timing since after we finished lunch there was a long queue. Lunch was nice and fast thou so I don't think the waiting time was too long.

No nonsense food, simple and delicious. A lot of local people eating and wonderful service for us tourists as well.

Definitely will go back on the next visit!

Amazing fish at this place! Had the bream and the bass, would recommend the bream if you're only having one. It was so good I came back twice in a day! A must have is also their duck rice! Dinner comes with the cod fish cakes so leave room for some dessert.

20 October 2023 Update:
We were back in Porto for a couple of weeks and went back to O Buraco 3 times for lunch. We ordered a bunch of different daily specials, which all run under €10. We tried Salad Mista, Omelet, and Beef O Buraco, Porc Chops, Chicken Curry and several other specials. A 1/4 crafe of white or red house wine runs for €2.50.

All of our meals were delicious. The service has always been attentive and prompt. The entire lunch for two runs about €25, which is very reasonable. This is a family restaurant and not a fancy one and the prices reflect that.

2019 Review: This restaurant was suggested by one of the local business friends. It is definitely a favorite of the locals. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, and there was a line out the door. So, we went back on Monday at about 12:30 and were lucky to get a table right away.

There are about 12 tables on the main floor and another 10 on the floor below. By the time we left the restaurant at 1:30, there were people waiting to get in. As we looked around, many of the other patrons were local folks.

We ordered Monday's special, Curry Chicken, which came with rice. It was more like a stew served in a casserole with slices of bread on top to soak in the sauce. Portions are not big, but for 7€ per person, it's definitely worth it..

As you can imagine, the place is compact and not much space between the tables, but then that's what you expect from a restaurant like this.

The service was prompt and friendly. The menu is also available on English and staff speak English too.

This is a very busy place but it is worth the wait. All the dishes were absolutely delightful. I especially loved the sardines. Waiters were warm and friendly.

Great spot to try some traditional and authentic Portuguese digs. The restaurant retains its old design and the menu items are pretty no frills. We ordered the recommended fish dishes which turned out to be fried, personally no my cup of tea but I can see why many like it. Many dishes come with rice.

Delicious traditional Portuguese food with very affordable prices. Good wine selection. It's a classical restaurant and thank god its frozen in time. No need for all these new remodeling hipsters style decor. Hope it doesn't change one single tile.
