Castelo de Chaves

Was surprised by the architecture in the city of Chaves..different from other parts in Portugal. Amazing history..castle is well preserved..a delight to visit

What stunningly beautiful place with so must to see. A Roman bridge and museum, a Medieval castle, an historic old town and a spa town.

Gorgeous no matter the season!

The remains of an old castle but the main tour is in good condition with a nice garden.

The "Castelo de Chaves" was a real gem in the city to explore. The outside garden is highly maintained and you can see the city from there. However you should really try the military museum inside the castle, the price to enter it's only 1 euro, and you will see many relics from the 1800 to the 1918. You can also go at the top of the castle, the view from there is incredible and you can see all the city. Highly recommended if you are in the city!

Nice place to visit. There's a beautiful garden in front of the castle with a nice view. You can enter the castle to see the museum and go to the top. Worth the visit to get to know a bit of the story and also for the view on top, all around the city. The enter costs only 1 euro and it closes at 18:30.

Well worth a visit! The gardens were absolutely stunning and the castle itself is a military museum. Cool enough inside to withstand the climb to the top for the fabulous view across the city.

I castle is a pretty basic fortification but has a great view of the area. It is at the top of the hill and faces south overlooking the Roman bridge and the hilly countryside. The area around the castle is cool too. It is walking distance from most of the other sites, including the bridge, the Roman baths, and the fort of San Francisco.

A key piece of the cities history. It’s very cheap to enter and if you head all the way to the top you will get some great views of Chaves and the surround areas. Each floor has military gear and information from the various periods throughout history.

One note to anyone afraid of heights, the stairs to the top floor before the roof may be a little daunting. However, even without making it to the top its still worth the visit considering the cost of entry.
