Cafe Mayu

A must try before getting on your train in the Ollantaytambo Train Station. The chicken sandwich is simply sublime. One of the best we have ever had. The cheesecake is amazing too. Not too sweet at all.

I guess the ultimate question is not which cafe has the best coffee in Ollantaytambo, since the answer is obviously Cafe Mayu, but which of their locations (the one inside the train station or the one at Inca Rail) has the best coffee. For me, the coffee at Inca Rail Station is the best of all, full of cream and flavor , always rich and fresh. But their El Albergue location has much more pastries and drinks. It’s also ideal for people waiting for the train for a longer period of time, or people wanting sometime to work. The Wi-Fi is very fast, and the salon is a good place to sit and watch the train. Service is always friendly and helpful. 👍

Cafe Mayu was there for us when we needed them most! Really great coffee, and located conveniently right at the Ollantaytambo train station. Perfect for a caffeine pick-me-up, whether waiting for the train or arriving to the station and heading off on your next adventure.

Wasn’t sure what food at the station would be like and popped into Cafe Mayu since it was the closest eatery to the waiting room. Food was very good and service was extremely quick. We asked our server if we could get our food quickly since we only had 30 minutes before our train arrived and she arranged it without compliant.

I got the rocoto de gallina and my girlfriend got the trucha a la plancha and chicha morada. All were very tasty.

SO delicious. They had a really good pisco sour. We stayed at the El Albergue and it was nice to go down stairs and grab a quick bite to eat before exploring the area.

Our FAV place in Ollentaytambo, there’s more then meets the eye here! Yes, it’s a great stop while waiting for the train, but if your in town for a bit, Cafe Maya has there own organic farm in walking distance. We did their Pacha Mama lunch in the fields of ther farm, very yummy and fancy.

We come here serendipitously when we wait for our train to Machu Picchu, then our Peruvian friend bring us inside Cafe Mayu to meet the Head Roaster, Frank Cerberos. Then it become an experience that we will never forget.

Frank took us the tour inside Cafe Mayu which is a TRULY HIDDEN GEM! If you only see a coffeeshop in front, you will be surprise what they have inside. After passing the hotel room & reception, you will come to this huge organic permaculture farm where Frank & his team grow plants, animals, and build an Eco-School for the kids nearby!

Then he took us to his roastery cabin and brew us his coffee with Syphon brew method, we did a spontaneous cupping together. It was very lovely coffee, we recommend to anyone who have time before your train to Maccu Picchu to come meet Frank & explore the hidden gem inside Cafe Mayu!

Learned so much from Ronaldo about where and how the coffee is grown and harvested, then we sorted coffee beans and roasted our own! It was delicious, and you get to bring home a bag of freshly roasted coffee beans! Would highly recommend this experience to anyone passing through Ollantaytambo en route to Machu Picchu, and a must do if you are staying at the Hotel Albergue!

Lindo lugar, cómodo y acogedor. La atención es rápida y eficaz. El café ea estupendo, y sus galletas de avena son lo máximo. Todo se prepara al instante y tarda lo necesario. Completamente satisfecha con su servicio 😄.

Excelente el cafe, el local esta dentro de la estación del tren, no salgas sin probarlo.

La tarta de queso esta riquisima. Inmejorable tentempié durante la espera al tren. Ademas pudimos cargar los teléfonos móviles ya que todas las mesas disponian de enchufes.
