Quick and interesting time at the site museum. Need to present your passport at the reception before you can start your self guided museum tour. Complimentary with Machu Picchu tickets. We were instructed to not take any photographs. This museum has cool information on Machu Picchu’s discovery and introduction to the world in the early 1900s as well as plentiful information on historical context during its peak in the times of the Inca civilization.

Worth the visit! Includes entry into the little botanical gardens, cute little walk. We went through the museum before going to the ruins and it was very informative and gave great background before we got to see the actual ruins. Didn’t know it was included with the Machu Picchu ticket! Should’ve read these reviews first. You do need your passport for entry 20 soles per person if you don’t have your MP ticket.

Manuel Chavez Ballon Site Museum is a little museum with the history of Machu Picchu. It’s about a 35-40 minute walk out of town at the base of Machu Picchu. Entry is included with our Machu Picchu ticket and the staff even let us in the day before our ticket.
It had an interesting overview of Machu Picchu and a number of artifacts including the only gold bracelet ever found at the site. Definitely worth visiting if you have time. There’s also a small botanical garden that we could walk through (free admission) before reaching the museum.
Just a little note that it closes at 4pm.

Great little Museum. If you didn't catch everything your guide tells you about the discovery of Machu Picchu it gives you a second chance. Best to take the bus to Machu Picchu and hike down the 3000 ft back to Agua Calientes, hang a left at one of the last roads(there is a sign). The Museum is free included in your price of admission to Machu. Also check out the Botanical Garden.

We almost missed this place! Thanks to our Machu Picchu guide, we learned that this hidden museum that tells a story about Incas and shows artifacts found on the site, which we really wanted to see. Definitely worth visiting, free entrance if you show your Machu Picchu ticket.

A little gem of a museum, tucked away outside of town. I would not have found it had I not hiked up to Machu Picchu. Informative and clean. For s/.21 (~$6.30 USD), it's well worth the price of admission.

We went in the afternoon before visiting the ruins. Our ticket got us in for free. Very valuable to see before hand, let us laugh a bit as we eaves dropped on guides giving out wrong descriptions 😉

Great little museum. Leila and I walked here after Machu Picchu. It explained a lot about the site and had a lot of interesting artifacts from the site and explanations of how Incas made their buildings, agriculture, stone and metal works.
Its about 20 min walk from the bus station at the bottom of the hill at Aguas Caliente. You can also ask your bus driver from Machu Picchu drop you off there. We asked ours and he said yes but then forgot. Also you can easily stop there on your way up to Machu Picchu if you are walking.
