Everything was great for the money value , the lady Ms Piedad was an very good host , reached all the time , serving with good food and advise about walkable trails on the island, but this for administration ( management) she needs help ! Mean another person will be great for the service , taking care of the bar-restaurant, has nothing to do with rooms ! Besides this the place it’s very good for relaxing!! Yesy y Alejandra very helpful!!

I thoroughly enjoyed 2 night stay at saboga lodge. We were in Panama City with work but just wanted to escape the city. This was perfect place to do so. First of all the virtual team Yesi and Aljendra were excellent with communication and helping us with transport questions etc. The lodge itself is rather cool, rustic, very much barefoot living..perhaps a little tired in areas and definitely has the potential to be better if they spent a bit of money on it but I was not disappointed, rooms were nice and comfortable , didn’t have hot water whilst I was there but that’s to be expected when you go to islands such as these. I think it’s under new management so things are changing perhaps, there was no menu and service is very casual, so you have to adapt to the laid back nature of the place..the manager/cook Francis just cooks for everyone at same time, we had the most amazing fresh fish and vegetables both nights, was very tasty! I liked the fact that there was no menu.. just don’t expect a lot of choice..and there’s no prices for anything so you don’t know what you’ve spent till the end of the trip when you pay. All the staff working there are lovely and helpful. You can walk to various other beaches (playa blanca is stunning) there’s also trips to go to other islands and snorkelling although I personally didn’t do I heard they were amazing from other guests. The beach where Saboga lodge is does have a lot of washed up plastic either side of the beach, this I can see would turn people off and it would be nice if they could remove it, but it’s a lesson and a reminder to us all that we need to look after our planet more. This is not a pristine immaculate or luxury island in any way, there is nothing here but there is something really special about it and if you keep in mind where you are and what to expect you will get so much enjoyment. I was so chilled after 2 days here and I didn’t want to leave. You can walk the whole island. There’s paddle boards to use and some gym equipment. Yoga deck etc. If they spent some time refreshing things at the lodge and making use of all the spaces they have it could be on another level. I’d for sure return if I was ever in that part of the world again.

Beautiful hotel tucked in between the trees and the beach. We had a super relaxing weekend and the staff and service were incredible. We would definitely come back and are planning to! Special thanks to the in-person staff - Angela, Byron, Darling, and Andres! As well as the very attentive virtual team - Jhon, Alejandra, Santiago, Julieta, and Rita!

Saboga Lodge is the perfect place to get away from the noise of the city and reconnect with nature all while having modern-day commodities. You can relax in the pool or take a minute walk down to the beach. The staff is always extremely friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend staying here to all of my friends and family. It isn't my first time nor will it be my last.

Saboga Lodge is a truly beautiful and unique destination, providing a tranquil and serene ambiance that fosters a profound connection with the charming nature on the island. I had such a lovely experience and peaceful time!

In addition, it was easy to communicate with the team (Sabrina, Santiago, Alejandra et Jhon 💚) who were respectful and ensured the rooms were clean. Also, their wide range of food options was extremely satisfying!

I highly recommend Saboga Lodge to anyone looking for a refreshing getaway surrounded by nature, where they can relax, reconnect with themselves, and escape the busy pace of everyday life!

The service was the highlight of our stay, absolutely one of the best customer experiences we’ve ever had!

Marlene and her son David are very sweet and accommodating, they made us feel at home at all times, and made sure everything was always taken care of and smooth sailing.

You can taste the love in Erlinda’s cooking, every meal was prepared upon request with fresh ingredients.

Mauricio, Dillon and Osiris were amazing too!

I will say, for the cost of the stay and what you spend on food (specially staying in their most expensive suite) you would hope to not have to sleep in a mattress that has outlived it’s intended duration, ours was basically a concave pit in the middle that you can’t help but to get sucked in by.

And maybe they should put some safeguards in the concrete corners that are the bed, I don’t know how many times we cut ourselves with those edges…

Other than that we would definitely stay here again!

PS: shoutout to Angel, their pet parakeet that eats the leftover’s of your food 😂.

Beautiful spot. We really enjoyed the sound of the waves when waking up.
The people at the hotel were really helpful and helped out with transportation to the doctor when my girlfriend was stung by a poisonous catapillar.

one star for Osiris, one for Villiam , one for Pedro, one for David and one for Saboga Lodge.
Makes out five stars in total ❤

Beautiful, nature surrounded place. You can hear the ocean from every spot in the lodge. Staff of four run the whole place efficiently and always with a smile. Special perk includes orange-chinned parokeet, Ancal, who will join your meals.
The beaches are empty, pristine, but you have to walk a bit for a true sandy beach. Lots of interesting volcanic formations at the coastline. Take a walk to Playa largo and Arbol (magnificent tree). Both within 20 min. of jungle trail.
Rooms are simple and functional but all with little verandas.
Recommend for more adventurous travelers that don't mind not having car and walking many steps up and down.

We had a beautiful stay! Overall this is a lodge for those who seek a little adventure and want to try something more interesting than an all inclusive resort.

We arrived in the rainy season so things were a little damp, as to be expected. The Island’s interior road was badly washed out from the rain, which is VERY normal for more remote locations, so we took a small boat in from the ferry. You’re going to get wet because it’s a wet landing on the beach. Bring waterproof luggage, wear flip flops and they’ll likely supply black garbage bags to keep your bags dry. We honestly had fun touring this secluded island on the way in! The stairs to and from the beach are rough, so be warned that they are uneven and there are a lot of them.

We were a group of 2 couples and largely had the place to ourselves for 5 days. There was a small mixup with our rooms, so our friends stayed in a room they didn’t book, but it was technically an upgrade. The rooms were spacious, cozy, impeccably clean, and the views were lovely. AC works great, no hot water though. We didn’t mind too much since we were always swimming. The upper level of the lodge really feels like you’re nestled in a beautiful forest canopy with the sound of the ocean and shining water peaking through.

This is an island, so I would caution thinking that everything will be readily available. But we never really went without anything we wanted. The restaurant is a kitchen: family style, so it’s really not a restaurant. I wish this was just honestly communicated. We found it best to ask what was fresh each night and the food was always fresh and delicious! Highly recommend the seafood!

The water is bottled only, so we really encourage Saboga Lodge to invest in a water purifier, and let’s reduce the plastic waste! We also drank directly from the tap (aquifers) by the end and we were fine!

The staff were the most amazing part of this stay! Marlen, David, Andres, Tayler and Zuli made sure that we felt welcomed, our rooms were clean, we had food and drinks plenty, especially when it was raining, and that we had amazing excursions to the virgin beach islands! The staff made us a campfire on the beach and we stargazed on our last night. We sipped mojitos by the pool every night, and had a wonderful time. Peek some hummingbirds, tiny bats, and gorgeous colourful birds in the forest all around the lodge!

Walk around the island’s exterior to see several unique beaches, take the Virgin Islands boat tour and go island hopping on gorgeous sand bars, and see where the show Survivor was filmed! If you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path, this is for you!

Saboga lodge: I’d recommend updating the pictures on the website to reflect minor renovations to the property that change the feeling a little bit: painting rooms, installing walls, and some aging to the infrastructure.

Had a wonderful stay at Saboga Lodge; it was exactly what I was looking for - remote, peaceful and beautifully integrated into the landscape of the island. Marlen and the team were amazing and made the stay extra special. Can highly recommend Saboga Lodge for anyone looking for some tranquility away from the crazyness of city life. And definitely try the shrimp ceviche with fried plantains, they were amazing!

This place is a real paradise, if you look for a real rest moment and disconnect from the world, this is the best lodge we find to do that and we’ve been traveling a lot ! The staff is incredible, Marlen and Andres are doing crazy stuff to eat, best chicken wrap in the world but also more elaborate plates like fish and seafood not so expansive with regards to the freshness ! David, Pedro and Tyrel are there to help you on everything you need !
Authentic heaven on earth. The private beach offers incredible wildlife experience (pelicans, deers, flying fishes,…). The suite has a stunning terrasse. Marlen & David organized a fantastic fire camp for Christmas Eve.
We opt for the virgines island tour (4 hours - 3 islands), with only 2 other persons with us, which was perfect. We are so thankful for these three amazing nights spent in the lodge. We will come back for sure :)

About Isla del Rey
Island in Panama

Isla del Rey is the largest island in the Pearl Islands in the Gulf of Panama. It has an area of 234 square kilometres, and a population of 1,676. Its current name is probably more a reference to Christ the King than to a secular king. There are four towns, which are San Miguel, La Esmeralda, La Ensenada and La Guinea. It is larger than the other Pearl Islands combined, and is the second largest island in Panama, after Coiba. source
