Nearly 600 years of history have imbued this place with enduring beauty. It remains a tranquil haven for prayer, nestled away from the bustling streets of Amsterdam. Despite its age, it continues to accommodate numerous visitors.

Beautiful place with historic significance. Worth seeing. Because people are living there all tourists are asked to be silent. Old houses (renovated obviously) and old chapel are stunning. An oasis of quietness and peace in the city centre is priceless.

The history of this part of Amsterdam goes back to centuries ago where a group of Catholic women settled in this area, which was a secluded section of the city as their faith was not tolerated by the Protestant Church in the city. The area has been renovated, and you can access it free of charge.

One of my favorite places in Amsterdam, a little gem right in the center but protected from the hustle of the city ! Peaceful and a bit out of time…

The 2 guys that work here were also so nice, they let me in even though they were about to obviously close the gates and were so funny !
One of them even took the time to come up explain the history of the begijnof.

Let’s hope this place will remain preserved!

A quiet area from the hustle and bustle. At the time our small group had to pass security to get in and tour the area. Parts of this are residential, for what we told are some of nuns in the community. Unsure if it is true. Please respect the grounds and dont be too loud. It is a peaceful quiet area in the middle of Amsterdam.

Definitely worth visiting, very cosy and quiet place hiden in the city Centre. English style buildings and green perfectly trimmed lawn. Old church and the oldest Amsterdam's house also impressive.

Nice and quiet place in crowdy Amsterdam.
Some paths are only for locals.
The Begijnhof is one of the oldest hofjes in Amsterdam, Netherlands. A group of historic buildings, mostly private dwellings, centre on it. As the name suggests, it was originally a béguinage. Today it is also the site of two churches, the Catholic Houten Huys and the English Reformed Church

Known as the oldest “hofjes” in Amsterdam, it’s composed by a group of houses built around a courtyard and garden which provided modest homes for the Beguines.
Begijnhof is quoted in guidebooks and there is the possibility to find a large number of visitors that coming through.
It's a quiet oasis in the centre of the city, located near Spui. It's a peaceful place to spend some time. To me, Begijnhof is one of the places of the heart of Amsterdam.
Remember that silence is requested. Free entrance.

The Begijhof is a oasis of peace in the chaotic center of Amsterdam. It is a garden surrounded by a beautiful set of charming Dutch houses. The perfect place to sit for a bit while exploring the city. You can also visit a small chapel there and light a candle. Silence is always required, so the atmosphere is very peaceful. Make sure to not disturb the residents who might be seating if front of their houses and do not trespass the private areas.

The line is really quick and while waiting a very nice guide is introducing you the story of this wonderful place. The entrance is free, this quiet and relaxing visit is not taking so long. Loved the chapel, it’s paintings and the beautiful garden atmosphere !

It is a magnificient, calm and quite place where in the history only beguines (nuns that refuse a public life) lived. The translation of a Begijnhof is literally Beguine Garden but this one in Amsterdam had another special role in the history. It served as a hidden base to Roman catholic women when Protestanism gained dominance in the Netherlands. To this day, there are still only women residents living in the area. It is definitely worth to see. Entrance is free of charge and a visit of 10 minutes is more than enough.

A very pretty place which is worth popping into. Have to be very quiet, and you'll only be in there a few minutes but it's worth it as a little addition to a day, but personally I wouldn't travel out of my way to get there.

It was such a beautiful place. You could make so cool and nice looking pictures and it wasn’t too growded. If you’re near this place go there and even if you need to walk there a couple of minutes it is worth it.
