Walk or jog from pond to pond to explore the corners in the banks that tell the history. In the 17th century, this is where the city’s defensive walls and canals were dug. In the late 19th century, people found that the time had come for something new and an English landscape-style park was laid out on the former town ramparts. The canals were transformed into ponds.

The Noorderplantsoen park developed from a sand ridge into a town rampart and distinguished garden to a venue for people of all ages to gather and enjoy art and culture.

Whenever the weather allows, students spend their time lounging on the grass at the pond banks and young families enjoy the playground. There is also a café/restaurant that sells any refreshments you might need and in late August, the park always functions as the backdrop for Noorderzon, a grand festival with plenty of theatre, dance and musical performances.

Though with current covid times, it is unsure if this festival will still be held

Very well maintained park. Good place to just stay on the grass and make a picnic on a warm day.

There was a park that was enjoyed for kids in Noorderplantsoen as you seen in photo.The Children climbed the rope and climbed to the top and they were very enjoy in that park.

Cool, calm and peaceful place for morning jog and walk... Awesome atmosphere... Nice coffee shop beside... Duck quacks now and then sounds excellent....

A very lush and tranquil park in Groningen. At the end of August home to one of the best festivals in the North; Noorderzon.

"Struikje, boompje, beestje." 😂 My own wonderful backyard that I share with the rest of Groningen and that is maintained for free by the city. What more do you need? 😚

Lekker botanical garden in the cbd area. A calm relaxing place to stroll, walk and wandering around. Unfortunately it rained today. guess if you pick a warmer day you will see more interesting things....like squirrels or so.

The Noorderplantsoen is amazing! Noorderzon is one of the nicest feativals to go to, even-though the corona edition had a different vibe this year!

Wonderful music arts festival her in Groningen for a fortnight lots to do and plenty of food and drink to try.
