I was so impressed by this museum. It is so well made and interactive. You have an audio guide and you go from rooms to rooms where a new part of the story is told. You can learn a lot about the history of Amsterdam. I specifically liked the doll house where you can watch inside and see details. Wished the tour was longer! But if you want to learn more about the history of the city then it’s the right museum.

What a surprise. A great experience — and thoroughly engaging through storytelling, video, and multimedia - literally drawing you from room to room to hear how Amsterdam came to life. Highly recommend.

This museum is underrated. I was so surprised by the interactive exhibition telling stories of the history of Amsterdam’s canals. The presentation of all the media are very impressive. I was immersed with the story as it is told in a very good chronological order. The installation is also very good. Although the whole tour is quite short (maybe around 30mins in total), but I could get an understanding on the canals’ history in Amsterdam. What a great architecture here in Amsterdam! I came here with Iamsterdam city card and it was worth it. Love the experience here.

This museum is a pleasant surprise. It's not very big, and not very well known, but it is very well done, and well worth a visit. It tells the story of how the canals in Amsterdam were developed and evolved to its current state. Many of the exhibits use advanced lighting, projection, and even holographic techniques to make the story come to life. Even if you are not interested in the history of the Amsterdam canals, It is still a rather fun museum to visit for the storing telling techniques and the use of modern immersive technologies.
This was recommended to me as a favorite from a local resident. So I would make the same recommendation to you. And I wouldn't be surprised it become one of your favorite as well.

This museum is also an immersive experience.
It's suggested by our hotel.
Super fun.
There are so many windows to peek into.
The fun part is to peek into these mini windows.
This is a great way to learn the history of Amsterdam.
Highly recommended.

Absolutely fascinating museum! Th experience was super interactive and really engaging. The audio guide provided a fascinating history to the development of the canals and the presentations in each room were so interesting. Absolutely amazing museum in a stately home along a canal. The models, videos and exhibits are beautifully designed. The audio guide narration is very clear and explains the history of Amsterdam.

Whoa, like seriously. If you need a museum to visit after the big art museums you need to go here, it's super well put together to explore the history of Amsterdam and how it was constructed, built, designed and maintained from a swamp village to modern times. It addresses the dark history of Dutch colonialism and slavery as part of the history, and it's very informative on why things are like the way they continue to be in the city. Really good audio tour, with cool rooms full of visual effects, a living dollhouse, a room full of sand to demonstrate canal building, and more. Super neat.

This museum is amazing if you want to know about the canals and how Amsterdam became the Amsterdam we know now days. It is a very interactive museum, they have a few rooms, each tells a part of the story, each room got miniatures and maps of how it was at the time and they play videos, projections and animations of how it was at the time while telling the story. Definitely worth it!

Interesting and engaging exhibit about the canals construction. Its rather short with 45 min so great also for kids and really well done! Afterwards, there is free time to explore the garden and the contemporary exhibit about maintenance of the quaies... I loved the quiet garden.. its very rare to see these canal gardens! Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to know more about the history of Amsterdam.

This museum gives an excellent history of Amsterdam, the canal houses and how it all came to be developed. The audio and visual is excellent along with the construction models. The holographics in the model of the canal house are amazing. Highly recommend visiting this museum. The tour is in "groups" so that you are at the "beginning" of each "animation"

Through multimedia displays, hands-on activities, and informative displays, visitors can learn about the construction, function, and significance of Amsterdam's canals. The exhibits showcase the impressive engineering and urban planning that went into creating the city's extensive canal network, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The museum also offers insights into how they shaped the daily life of Amsterdam's residents over the centuries. Enjoyed my visit here and will visit again! Also the museum is included in the Dutch Museum Card so free entry for museum card holders!

This is a really good museum for adults and kids with decent attention spans. It's one up from the ground floor, so by ready for steps. Each room provides information about Amsterdam and it's history, with an emphasis on the canals. Very well presented.

My partner and I happened to be walking by the museum and decided the go for a tour. We are so glad we did! Both of us have extensive tourism training and experience and this museum was our favourite in Amsterdam. With an audio guide moving you from room to room you learn so much about the history of Amsterdam and it’s purpose built canals. From the detailed maps, to miniature humans in a doll house, to sand floors and a scale replica of the canals, it is a quick visit and a must experience in Amsterdam. Thank you!
