Very interesting to walk around and hear the story of the Amsterdamse school

[visited in Jan 2023] the visitor center is the base where you can get some very useful information, freshen up, have a cup of coffee or tea and begin your guided tour around some extraordinary examples of early 20th century public housing embodying Amsterdam School. The guides are very nice and willing to provide you with a wealth of information on De Dageraad and Amsterdam School in general. Highly recommended if you’re interested in architecture and urban development history. A good complement to Museum Het Schip, another famous public housing complex.

If you are interested in architecture, city planning, or Amsterdam's early 20th century, it is well worth taking the short walking tour at de Dageraad.

Great place if you want to see and learn about the birth of social housing in the Netherlands. The complex is one of the finest examples of the 'Amsterdamse School' style of architecture where art and craftmanship come together. Take the tour to see fascinating details you would otherwise miss.

Highly recommend timing your visit with the tour. An English-language tour occurs at 15.30pm every day.

Because of COVID a friend of mine and myself decided to not meet at Amsterdam Centraal for a visit to the city, but at Amstel instead. This was a good choice, because it brought us to De Dageraad. We passed this intriguing housing project whilst casually strolling through the neighbourhood and were already admiring the architecture when we noticed it had a visitor centre. On a whim we went in and found they organise tours, one of which was just starting. It was very informative and given by a very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. If you're interested in the history of Amsterdam and architecture, you shouldn't miss this.

Amazing hidden gem in Amsterdam. A must for anyone who loves the Amsterdamse School architecture, besides going to Het Schip. The English tour was superb!

The place is absolutely stunning. If you like architecture or history of places and want to see Amsterdam differently — absolutely must go. Amsterdam will be before and after visiting.

We had a very informative and thorough tour of the Dageraad, we learned a lot. If you have a good camera, bring it along as there are plenty of small architectural gems to shoot. Dankjewel voor de geweldige ervaring!

It's a tiny museum ran by passionate people.

Really lovely place

Klein museum en daar moet u niet teveel van verwachten. Men kan er een leuke film kijken over de historie. Er zijn wat leuke weetjes te zien en een typische inrichting uit die periode. Hetgeen waar het uiteindelijk om draait is de rondleiding die door de wijk gaat. Bijzondere wijk zoals ze helaas niet meer gemaakt opzet/gebouwd worden.

Die Amsterdam School ist eine Kunst- und Architekturströmung, welche die Baukunst in ganz Holland entscheidend geprägt hat. Dem "Plan Zuid" von H.P. Berlage folgend, wurden die Architekten Michel de Klerk und Piet Kramer von einer Arbeiter-Kooperative mit dem Bau des Sozialbauviertels "De Dageraad" beauftragt. Entstanden ist ein architektonisches Gesamtkunstwerk, das bis heute fasziniert.

Das Museum De Dageraad ist Teil des Museums Het Schip, liegt aber etwa eine gute halbe Stunde mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln davon entfernt. Der Eintritt ist mit meiner I amsterdam-Card kostenlos. Hier starten die Führungen durch das Viertel. Ich bin an diesem Wochentag der einzige Besucher, und komme in den Genuss eines exklusiven 45-minütigen, höchst informativen Rundgangs. Mein Blick wird auf Details gelenkt, die ich meist übersehen hätte, wenn ich allein durch die umliegenden Straßen gewandert wäre.

Dieses Wissen (und das, was ich am Vormittag bereits in der Ausstellung des Museum Het Schip lernen konnte) erleichtert auch die Einordung der Exponate der Dauerausstellung, die ich mir im Anschluss ansehe. Dies ist auch die Reihenfolge, die ich für die Entdeckung der Amsterdam School empfehle.

Zeer de moeite waard, erg leuke rondleiding en goede informatie over geschiedenis en de prachtige uitingen die tijdens de rondleiding wordt gegeven. Leuk ook om een kijkje te nemen in de kamer in het museum!

Echt leuk om de door buurt van de dageraad gegidst te worden door een enthousiaste vrijwilliger. In het museum een kleine tentoonstelling bezocht en de boekencollectie aangevuld

Fantastische rondleiding door Petra, notabene in het Engels. Prachtige buurt, aardige en deskundige gidsen, echt een aanrader!
