Very nice location with view on the water and cute small green houses. Food was really delicious, Fish and chips in particular. The apple pie was not the best I have tried in Holland but as well very much appreciated.

We had a day trip to zandaam from amsterdam, walking along the zaan river and found this very cozy restaurant. We had a good lunch here.

The surrounding area of zaanse schans is touristy...sometimes excessively so. But this quiet spot in a courtyard setting next to the zaans river was a wonderful respite. I had traditional food that was prepared and served in a tasty and tasteful manner. Great views!

Really nice place to eat have a drink with the best view over the Zaanse Schans with the windmills in the background. Service was for us excellent it was let's eat and done in an hour but taking its time the food ordered nicely in time and received a little amuse before the entree. The menu has something for everyone to eat. It's a nice little bit more fancy restaurant. It's not the cheapest and not the most expensive but you'll get what you paid for. In our case amazing food excellent service and a great view. I'll be back if I have something to celebrate or for a drink on the terrace or bar. .

This cozy establishment doesn't give you any kind of touristic behavior and they don't make you feel like one. Instead they have great hospitality and smile which makes you feel at home.
The service is faster than average and especially hot chocolate with cream is a must have. In the future, I'll try food options here, but for now, my review is only for drinks side.
The missing two stars from the service is because of the toilets. The man's restroom doesn't have any toilet, only has two urinals (which is at height children can't reach).

After spending time exploring the windmills at @zaanseschans , decided to have lunch at Restaurant d’Swarte Walvis. Given that it is a Michelin Star restuarant, I was pleasantly surprise that the dishes are priced very reasonably. The service was top notch and the young Chinese staff that served us was extremely good and anticipated all our needs.

Very nice restaurant. Environment is perfect, staff good. Portions are small, so they suggest to order 3-4. I thought too much, 3 plus dessert was more than enough. Price can be expensive.

Tasty food and a nice atmosphere. If you are in Zaandam this is a place to dine in.

Mainly went for the bar, to escape the cold and the rain, but so glad I sampled the food as well. If you are in the area and are hungry, you won't be disappointed.

Really good restaurant in the middle of an old historic dutch village. It has a lot of different kind of food like duck, pigeon, salmon, veggies and tartare. Prices are high but worth it. Make sure you arranged your seats before, because it can be very crowded.

Great place with attractive location.. view is awesome.. Grab a table outside so that you can get a good view of windmills and water ..

We had a great experience and food here. If you are in Zaanse Schans and into great cuisine this place was amazing. We tried the cod and steak and soup of the day all of them amazing.
Kids menu was top notch too!

Most heartwarming service in a historic building with great food .

One of the best in the area: Great Care and fantastic food, really! You pay for that of course but it’s worth every penny!

Beautiful view and delicious food. The lunch menu had a lot of vegetarian options and the staff was very friendly. We sat outside as the weather was sunny and could not have enjoyed our meal more.

Very nice restaurant if there is nice weather. I was lucky to catch a table directly at the water from where you can see the windmills. Additionally the food is delicious too!

Excellent spot to eat and drink when visiting the windmills. Service and food were excellent.
