Happy Bookieman

What a fantastic place!
We were walking night city and noticed this shop by Ukrainian flag and a beautiful wall covered with Ukrainian words and paintings. The owner appeared to be a hospitable and eccentric man with very fast English, who invited us inside for a cup of tea. The bookshop inside was as extraordinary as his owner : a lot of books, paintings, furniture and just a lot of odd things.
We were so touched by Stephancik’s warm words and support for our country that we couldn’t even express it fully. Sometimes, encounters like this just happen when you need them the most.

Stopped in and bought a book. ****This is someone’s HOME so knock me/ring bell if the door is closed.**** Great conversation and his home is fascinating. 100% recommend if you enjoy off the cuff spots.

Called this place accidentally but had the absolute best conversation with Steve. I’m so sorry for waking Steve up in the morning but what an amazing guy. You should definitely support this bookstore because Steve was so kind and accommodating to my friend and I who called him accidentally. ❤

who invited us to select our favourite books from his bookish collection,
who offered us tea,
and talked with us about South America in spanglish.
He loves meeting strangers and shares his joy with any passerby who cares to stop by.

'The Bookieman' is not only a bookshop, but a space to exchange thoughts and experiences.

We went there to find some new books, and actually got to know a living book with his stories and perspectives.

This place is an EXPERIENCE. One that I will treasure forever. Such an interesting place with really cool selections. Plenty of English. I got some books from the 1800s. I could’ve stayed there all day, owner is friendly and eccentric and gives you coffee while you look. Make this a destination.

We were on a canal tour and the host pointed him out. The man looked so happy that we decided to go after. We got a book for the group for only 10€! Other than that, the Happy Bookieman was a pleasure to talk with… with many interesting stories. I can’t wait to come back here when I come back to Amsterdam.

Entering this bookshop was like entering a portal to a different place, in a different time. I was greeted and hosted by a lovely family who played beautiful music and shared powerful stories. An evening I will not forget.

What an honestly lovely man. We were greeted by the brilliance of his aura and he offered me a cup of tea before I looked around. He knows a lot about books and really loves the place, so it's definitely worth checking out the life of a passion. It's a shop reminiscent of daylight by the canal (which is exactly the view you're presented by when going to the store) and if I ever come to Amsterdam again, I'll make sure to pay another visit

Very eclectic. Cash only but Steven let me ride his bike to the nearest ATM. Truly a unique experience

We were looking for a cute, waterfront spot in the sun and we landed on the Happy Bookieman's book store which was the BEST surprise. His book store looks like something out of a old romantic movie, and his three small tables right on the canal are dreamy. The owner is such a sweet man, the location is bang in the middle of the city but with local prices (not tourist prices), bang in the sun, he plays music out of the book store, let us use his bike, overall it felt really good to be there and will definitely come back!

Best bookstore I've been to. It's more like visiting a friends home, he offers you tea or drinks, and I found interesting books :) Definitely go if you're interested in books will not regret.

If you like the classic used bookstore vibe, with stacks of books everywhere, this is for you. They have English and Dutch books. The owner was incredibly friendly and also offered us coffee or tea. Definitely a place to wander into!
