El Navegante

Amazing fresh seafood restaurant with a cute atmosphere. For main dishes my partner and I had the fish of the day (Chulo) with mashed potatoes and spinach and grilled shrimp with quinoa and mixed vegetables. The meal was very flavourful, fresh, and had good sized portions, with great service that helped us translate. For dessert, the chocolate mousse w passionfruit glaze. The restaurant seemed popular both nights we visited, so I recommend getting a reservation in advance, if you don't want to wait.

Awesome place, great for a romantic dinner or a friends and family dinner. The service is incredible and the food just delicious.
We ordered Risotto with Mar and Tierra, Gnocchi with shrimp, Ginger beer and limonade.

So good, we visited twice even when there was no power in the village!
It was THE best dinner option in San Agustinillo. The only thing I regret is not being able to order dessert because we were so full from all their beautiful dishes! The pitchers of refreshing water were the perfect compliment. We sat at the bar both times as the view toward the sea was incredible. The owner takes pride in his establishment and even when the lights were off, they still managed to serve some pipping hot and delicious dishes. Get the ceviche, it’s unlike anything you’ll ever have. The Guajillo Shrimp were huge and so fresh. The sweet potato gnocchi with all the fresh veggies, absolutely divine! My hope is that the owner will continue to do this for many years to come as I selfishly want them to be there when we return.

This restaurant is absolutely delicious! The freshest melt in your mouth tuna sashimi. Large meaty shrimp coated in a delightfully crispy panko crust served with the creamiest garlic mash potatoes and coleslaw. Beautifully cooked steak. Excellent cocktails. Decadent chocolate brownie. We will be eating here at least once more before we leave.

The food is a solid nine and service was great. We came here specifically for dessert and we were not disappointed! I think their main fish dishes are probably really good. They looked great coming out of the kitchen. We only had appetizers and they were OK. A little too much balsamic glaze on top of the sashimi appetizer.

Best fish restaurant in the area! So tasty and delicious my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Your order will come with a nice appetizer, assortment of breads and dipping sauces. We ordered the Chula with Quinoa, and Espada with sweet potatoes and salad. And brownies with ice cream for dessert. Superb!!

One of the best restaurant in the area. The ambiance is great, good service. Arrive early if you don’t have a reservation. It gets full by 7-8pm. The tuna sashimi was fresh and delicious. The mezcalitas were amazing!

We were told about this place by a new, English friend, John. He was not joking about El Navegante having an incredible repertoire of dishes. Everything ordered was exquisite! The staff super friendly in a fun atmosphere, the drinks were just as great! We'll be back and send everyone here all the time.

SPOILER: BEST SHRIMPS (CAMARONES) EVER

El Navigante - an honest review.

First of all, if you're seeking an "authentic" Mexican restaurant - you know, plastic chairs, street food style, open barbecue, menu in Spanish, and a bit of adventure vibe - you won't find it at El Navegante. (You can find those types of restaurants, for example, between Zipolite and Puerto Angel). El Navegante caters more to tourists: it's clean, the staff (friendly) speaks English, and you'll pay slightly more than 10 Euros for a main course. The atmosphere is pleasant, providing a relaxed dining experience.

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon El Navegante on our first night in the area. It was conveniently close to our accommodation, so we thought, why not give it a try?

Little did we know, we were about to indulge in the best Shrimps (Camarones) of our lives. The portion size was generous (about 10 super huge shrimps), and they were cooked in a garlic-infused, slightly spicy sauce (if I remember correctly, it was termed "al ajo"), perfectly complementing the mashed potatoes (pure de papas). It was truly a life-changing culinary experience - salty, oily, bursting with flavor on our palates.

Despite our efforts to find similarly delicious Camarones in the following days, we were unsuccessful. So, even after leaving the area, we couldn't shake off one regret: not returning to El Navegante for those incredible shrimps.

Don't miss out on this experience! The shrimps are truly awesome!

A true gem. The ladies in the kitchen absolutely do magic - the food served is heavenly - and the drinks are wonderful. Staff is lovely and fun. More than fair value for money!

This place is 10 Stars. Best food in Oaxaca by far. If you are in Playa San Agustinillo you should eat here every night. Nothing else comes close. Like a nice restaurant in Mexico City. Home made gnocchi with shrimp in a Mescal cream sauce? Come on. This is top notch. Wifes panko encrusted Dorado and mashed also excellent. Been here a month and no other place compares.

If you feel a warm welcoming at the first sight, then you know that you are in the right place. The staff is super friendly and our waitress Laura made our dinner special. The kitchen crew does a fabulous job and creates mouthwatering dishes wit great taste. Everybody from the village is gathering in this family-friendly place. Don't forget to choose some of their selected Mezcals...our recommendation is the one blended with Jamaica & Honey served with grapes or orange slices. El Navegante makes your stay worthwhile.

I wasn't too keen on the muscles, but the fish was amazing. Waiter was super friendly which makes all the difference.

Excellent food, incredibly fast - they seem to have speed demons in the kitchen, but it does not affect the quality - and the service is attentive, friendly and competent. Do reserve, it‘s usually full.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. We came here 3/6 nights while in San Agustinillo. Menu changes daily based on the daily fish haul. Plates recommended by waiters were all phenomenal both in taste and presentarion. Desserts were all delicious as well as the daily agua frescas. Able to see beach and sunset from restaurant. Excellent and friendly service by all staff. A must visit if you are staying anywhere near Mazunte area.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in this beach area. The food is always great and I have to say they serve the best steaks (solomillo) I have had in Mexico.

Our favourite spot in San Augustinillo. Catch of the day is always mindblowing & expertly prepared. Special cocktails & mezcal served up while you listen to performers. Sunset views from the patio. Just the loveliest!
