The Pinewoods Hotel

Best looking hotel room I've stayed at so far in Myanmar. Modern conveniences such as USB charging ports and side table LED lights. If they only paid attention to the small details like grouting the washroom tiles, replacing the rusting waste bins and cleaning the washroom slippers which were pretty gross, then the hotel would be perfect. Staff are nice but English isn't that great. They can pick you up and drop you off in town. Around a 15 minute walk to town. Wi-Fi not working when I was there.

Had a lovely time here, after desperately needing a break from Yangon! Travelled during rainy season/Covid and SO worth it! I read a lot of reviews before booking here and this was reasonably priced and lovelier in person than on the photos. The staff are all lovely, very helpful and speak great English. They made me feel very welcome, love Myanmar hospitality! The room was perfect, a European ski lodge design, with slanted ceilings and pine walls that reminded me of fond memories of European vacations! And complete with bidet toilet. It is very welcome in the cool mountain weather to sit on warm seat!! The showers were hot, rooms were cleaned daily, and WiFi was surprisingly fast!
I liked that it was away from the busy part of town, more in nature, the birds sang all day, could hear a small river flowing in the quiet evenings and only a 15 minute walk into town. Its also close to the trian which is fun to watch go by and take photos. Train noise didnt wake or bother me at all. Loved walking along the train tracks into town.

Its my second time in Kalaw, I highly recommend not just arriving for one night before a trek!! Stay 2-3 days, hike the local viewpoints/mountains among the pine trees (which I personally prefer over the hike to Lake Inle) eat at the local restaurants (7 sisters and Pyae Pyae for local food) or Simple Life, Sprouting Seeds and Red House for more healthy or Western options. Take the 2 Heritage trails to look at colonial houses, so much to do!!!

Since we can't travel overseas, come support local tourism!!! With the clean mountain air here it felt my lungs and immune system received a very welcome boost!

Only downsides of this hotel were the staff were not very knowledgeable about local hikes without a guide, but that was OK as I found helpful info from locals in town and that the rooms are not soundproof if you have noisy neighbours so bring earplugs just in case.

Otherwise I cannot fault this lovely hotel and will definitely stay here again.

The room price is cheap including the morning breakfasts.Can see the Sunset at the top of the Veranda in my room . Very nice places and quiet.

Large rooms , Exclusive Furnitures , Great Service , Mostly Quiet , Beautiful Scenery, Hot n Cold water available, Free Meal , Superb Toilet ... couldn’t ask for more , 10/10 ... would come again 👍🏻

The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from downtown. The prices are low and the place is very quiet.
