Red House Bar & Restaurant

After traveling Sri Lanka for a month and Myanmar for 10 days I was very pleased to find Red House Restaurant still being open during these difficult times. I had 6 pizzas in 7 days. Not something to be proud of while exploring an Asian country but it was definitely needed after weeks of fried rice, veggies and noodles. The dough is crisp, the ingredients Italian. (wood oven!!) Great taste and authentic. The price tag between approximately 22.000MMK and 26.000MMK is normal in the region as part of the ingredients need to be imported. Paolo and his wife Kaisa are fantastic hosts and trained their staff well. The restaurant is cosy and located in an historical building in the center of Kalaw. Draught beer and tasty local wine. Really good Italian kitchen. Excellent Pizza and Pasta. Attentively Service and a nice terrace to sit and eat (upstairs). Prices are a little bit higher than usual.

Excellent quality food ! It is incredible but here you find the real Italian pizza cooked with wood oven. Not only Italian but also shan food is very good so restaurant is for all. Upstairs there is also a beautiful viepoint on Pagoda. The quality is granted by Paolo the Italian owner that is also an agronomist that can check high quality of ingredients. Currently at Yangon there is not a pizza like that one of Paolo. Staff is very good managed by the wife of Paolo. Italians do it better :)

Wonderful menu, mind blowing pizza, if i start describing you'll have water drooling from mouth. Thin and crispy base with lots of toppings and lots more fresh cheese. If you are in kalaw for one meal you must try this place and second time you automatically step in here. Interior is beautiful. Very peaceful with almost all the foreigners around

Must visit place in Kalaw. Enjoy wood oven pizza and other Italian cuisine, play pool, and have a peaceful evening with friends and family.

Pizza was really good by anyones standard. I don’t think you would find a better pizza place in Myanmar, it’s a rare gem.
The lighting/setting is perfect. The staff are really nice and attentive.
I had the large grilled chicken pizza and asked for some fresh chillies on top, it was delicious. Only mild concern was that they should maybe scrap the large pizza (1,500 extra) option as the mediums are nearly the same size so probably best save the money.

We just had time for a coffee here, unfortunately. Lots of tourists here days a lot about the range and quality here.
I'm a fussy coffee drinker, and this coffee is superb!! Northern Shan organic coffee made on an Italian machine. A rate find in these parts!!

Delicious pizza i ever had, good care to people and only European restaurant in kalaw.

this place felt like a little bit of europe in myanmar. for lunch we had the Panini which was great and for dinner we had to come back because they don't serve Pizza until 4 or 5 and we wanted Pizza really bad. BEST DECISION EVER. tasted like at our italian place (run by real italians). give it a try!

Even though it is an Italian restaurant, you can genuine Shan traditional curries.

I agree with all the positive reviews.. lovely Italian owner with great customer service, delicious WOOD-FIRED pizza with quality ingredients, a rarity in Myanmar!! Prices are obviously higher than local food, but very worth it. Salads are organic and they even had organic wine! Pool/billards for some after dinner entertainment completes the experience! Highly recommend

The pizza is the best I have tried in Myanmar as of yet. The fire just makes it smell authentic. Maybe they can just get a wider variety or choice in toppings.

Delicious pizza, but pasta is not that good. You can see your pizza made in a wooden oven, live. Portion size are really big.

Delicious real Italian cuisine in an unexpected location. Had the pizza and it was good as I've had in Italy. Real Italian red wine. Tasty tiramisu and chocolatey chocolate mousse. There are local dishes, as well, which we didn't try. Excellent service, pleasant ambiance. A tad pricey but inexpensive compared to the same thing in more developed places. Recommended.

Little Italy in Myanmar. A real island of quality Italian food and hospitality. The Italian owner is closely watching his restaurant, staff and the food quality. Staff is trained well, to be friendly, attentive and very professional. Ingredients like Mozzarella and Anchovies are imported. Food is tasty and authentic. I liked the Bruschetta and Anchovies Pizza a lot. Five stars :)

Really nice place to be for the dinner. Very good and tasty Italian food. I loved the self-made ravioli and pizza. As addition to your stay you can play a game of table tennis or billiards. The staff was always helpful and friendly. See you next time!

Really love this place. There is delicious Shan traditional food and Bar. I ordered Shan noodle and everything is made fresh.

Very good food. Takes 30-45 min for some dishes to prepare and hard to get tables in peak seasons. But worth waiting. Place your order in one go and keep reminding the waiter. Highly recommended.

The food was good altough pretty pricey compared to other places in Myanmar. Very nice western vibe!

My boyfriend and I went here the one day we were in Kalaw and LOVED IT. We are from NYC and have been traveling for two months and have missed pizza and Italian food so very much. The dough here is by far the best we’ve had in Asia (and we have tried a ton of places in numerous countries). And they serve a decent, well priced Montepulciano. Wonderful ambiance and service
