It's definitely a must visit!!! I was not expecting the space to be so wide and peaceful! There are activities to do there such as archery, photos, and cultural events. Make sure to bring snacks as there are none sold on the grounds. Please take your trash with you when you leave to keep the area clean! You will love your time here, and it's free to get in!!

The traditional feel has been preserved and the fortress grounds are kept in good condition.

This is the second time I’ve visited the fortress and each time there has been plenty of activities to try out and/ or monuments to see.

- Hanbok rental
- Cafes.
- Street food stalls.
- Lots of restaurants and cafes directly outside the fortress.
- Archery.
- Monuments
- Replicas if the old houses and buildings, including a prison structure.
- Kite rental.
- Traditional games area
And more.

The last time I visited it was for Lunar New Year and they had a small event with entertainment acts and speech from the local mayor.

Entrance was free both times I’ve visited.

Dress up warm if visiting in the winter because the fortress is mainly outdoors.

It’s the rare historic site where preserve walls and castle built in 1421, at the time of Chosun Dynasty. This place was operated as a headquarter of the army in Chungchung Province at that time. I personally impressed by numerous beautiful trees which are hundreds years old. One of them witnessed execution of Catholic Martyrs 150 years ago.

Build maybe 600 years ago during the Joseong period. In the 1866 there are some persecutions of Roman Catholics people, around more than 1,000 people died. And after that their head was cutted and hangging in one tree, that located inside the castle. This tree already around more than 300 years old. In 2014 Pope Franciss visit this place and pray for those martyrs who died for their faith. This place is a historic place. And maybe this is one of the most intact castle in Korea.

My experience was during a snowstorm which to me made it even better than I think it would have been normally. It was very peaceful and a rather large park with multiple unique areas to walk through. I would come back to see it in another season.

A great place for couples to have a picnic, for people to fly a kite, take a long walk, get fresh air and learn a little bit of Korean history. A very cool place to visit and spend a few hours if you are in the area.

This is a very famous castle along the west coast of South Korea. It was built during the Chosen Dynasty as a protection against the Japanese Pirates that devistated the west coast settlements three and four centuries ago. This is a large complex with many administrative buildings and a beautiful pine forest located within the walls. As an aside it is not as spectacular a fortress as the famous one in Suwon City but it is much older and also more typical of Korean fortress construction.

It is unique in Korea as it is a fortress located in a valley area. This makes it very easy to walk around and you do not have to climb a mountain to visit the location. It is most famous as here was where many Christians were murdered. I include a photo of the tree where they were hung by their hair till they died. This happened during the 1800s when Korea was very much isolated from the world.

It is also well worth visiting to see the beautiful Chosen buildings. There are a variety of Korean architecturl treasures there. My favorite is a jail that includes the tables where you can experience torture complete with large paddles. The location is dominated by large grassy fields and benches. There are also examlpes of weapons of war for you to examine along the pathway. It is also very safe for families as there are no roads within the park for the public.

I highly recommend a visit and spend the day there as there is so much to see at this historic location. Also there are plenty of free parking areas adjacent to the fortress and also allot of traditional restaurants nearby.

Great place to spend a couple hours walking around. It's free as well as parking and there's enough interactive spots for the kids. There is an archery area. The town is small but you can find restaurants across the street. It would be nice to see all the flowers blooming in the spring.

This place is very convenient to access by car. Parking lot is spacious and free. And really close from IC.
Most of all, this place could be preferred to families have little son or daughters because atmosphere is peaceful and the place has a lot of space for hanging around. Many people enjoy kiting, playing soccer with small group, walking.
