The store offers an impressive selection of teas, among which I was delighted to find a variety of matcha. I purchased several 40g cans of premium matcha. The staff were welcoming, even introducing me to a special limited edition matcha. Since I was searching for matcha for both myself and relatives, I gladly followed their recommendations.

Additionally, I had the opportunity to savor a cup of hot matcha, specifically a unique Kyoto limited edition, although I did not purchase the corresponding matcha powder.

I wish I had more time to enjoy a sit-in tasting with my family at the store, as the ambiance is truly inviting and conducive to a delightful tea experience.

Great place to experience amazing tea. We took a taxi out from town but you could take the subway from downtown and have a quick walk. It is an essential part of the Kyoto experience. Full of Japanese so it feels likes an authentic cultural experience also. The service was impeccable!

Nice traditional Japanese tea shop and cafe. Many different types of Japanese tea are sold here. Matcha at the cafe is tasty.

Currently under renovation! Go around back and follow the signs for the temporary location. Great English pamphlet to help you decide on what to buy (plus friendly and knowledgeable staff), tastings available, and lovely packing of your purchase. Would recommend.

This was exactly as I expected. My only regret being that I didn't pick up more Matcha (I bought one of everything)

High quality Matcha powder indeed. Excellent service, and great experience through and through.

Amazing traditional tea store in Kyoto that you should visit when you're there. They serve various types of Japanese tea and also some desserts. Of course, you can also purchase their tea in store.

Did a tea tasting with matcha and hojicha hot teas in the tea house. I didn’t care for the hojicha, even though I usually love it. I bought two cans of matcha to take home. They don’t have the matcha tea making sets!! They were sold out when I went sadly

Very traditional Japanese feel and the tea was great. The service staff patiently explained the steps to brewing tea and the rituals involved. The strict discipline required to brew a cup of tea was religiously practiced here. After the first round, the staff left the table to us to explore the tea on our own. I was grateful for the space and freedom to enjoy the tea. The cafe was clean, toilets were clean and the price is affordable. It was not too expensive as the most pricey tea item we chose was around 1400yen. They open at 11am and we reached about 1045am. There was a japanese temple nearby to explore to kill time.

Excellent company and product, I met Ippodo on my first trip to Japan in 2014 and since then I have been a regular online buyer or ask friends that goes to Japan to give a chance on green tea (and buy my wishlist). Their customer service was great, Meg Arashima helps me and resolved my situation with the delivery.
Thank you so much.

Caring, hospitable, and knowledgeable staff and manager. Great selections of various types of tea. A bit on the pricier side but totally worth it for the high-quality products.

Great selection of tea in a old style store. Staff speaks English and there are English brochures too. Cafe inside serves the selection of tea on offer. Just visited again in Oct 2023 and they have relocated to the back while renovations are being done to their main store.

One of the most pleasant experiences in Kyoto. The store and staff are all amazing and the tea you can taste is simply perfect. I'd go there for a tea every day if I lived in Kyoto 😍

Beautiful traditional Japanese tea shop in a nice quiet area of Kyoto. The quality of tea is outstanding and perfect for every green tea lovers. They got shopping area, to-go green tea area and cafe area. A cup of green tea with little Japanese traditional sweet cost about ¥1200-1700. If u order pot of tea, it comes with hot water where u can brew about 3-4 small cups. Everyone working there is very polite and quiet. If u know how to appreciate high quality green tea, I can Highly recommend this place.

After my cooking class, I asked my instructor Taro where's the best place to buy green tea in Kyoto? He said Ippodo Tea . He buys his tea there, both for his family and guests. With such high praise, I had to find out why.
When you visit the tea house, they give you an extensive menu of green tea, detailing whether it's strong or light, fruity or fresh. Also, they will teach you how to brew your tea and how many rounds the pot is good for. English instructions are clear and easy to understand.

Fantastic local matcha teas prepared professionally by their very attentive staff. They pair your teas with various candy and mochi, which are very delicate and delicious. This is a great little stop after walking endless miles around town. Their bathrooms are also very clean and comfortable.

It’s a great place to try first-class green tea: matcha, gyokuro, sancha or bancha. Calm and quiet place make you relaxed. I enjoyed “premium sencha”, it was so delicate and soft, recommended.

Everything about this tea shop was exceptional. I learned how to correctly use gyokuro, sencha, and matcha here. The tea itself is nearly flawless. There's a tea room directly connected to the shop with a wait-list for those interested. The customer service was some of the best I've seen. I say that because, on a whim, I decided to purchase a set of their highest quality sencha and gyokuro after trying the tea here. I don't know if and when I'll be back in Japan, so I decided to go all out. Well, it turns out you're supposed to pre-order it. However, after explaining that I was not going to be in Kyoto after my visit they decided to make a few phone calls and had it ready for me just before they closed for the day. They went very much out of their way for me and I appreciated it! The lady that helped me out spoke English pretty well.

For tea connoisseurs, I can't recommend this place enough. You can't miss it!
