A must go to visit if you're in Kyoto. It's only about a 20 minute walk from Kyoto station or a quick 5 minute taxi ride.

It's a large, open market that is multiple blocks long as probably has over 100 vendors. You'll see everything sold from fresh seafood, grilled seafood, soft serve, fresh vegetables, decorative items, alcohol, etc...

It's fun just walking around and buying a little bit of everything. Just pace yourself as there's so many good food vendors you'll want to try.

Well, this is a touristy market for sure but it is worth visiting for the vibe and the food. Some of the foods are truly legit. My all-time favorite is the tofu shop where they made tofu donut and tofu soft serve. Such a light yet pleasant sensation from both sweets. The food stalls selling seafood look amazing too.

Love the selection of food, and the unique products you can buy. But what stands out the most for me is the cleanliness! Never saw a marketplace this clean! I brought my kids and they really enjoyed their time here.

Had a great stroll through the market and picked up some lunch and snacks on the way to the Samurai & Ninja Museum. The souvenirs may be overpriced a bit for tourist but if you don’t really have time to hunt for the cheapest places, can pick up some items here. Had awesome tempura & sushi for lunch, honeycomb ice cream and some of the smoothest mochis ever. Great place to bring the family.

Very cool spot for traditional Japanese shopping. I loved the shrimp tempura here and many spots with sweets and other different options. There is even a Mexican taco stand at the beginning before you enter that is a must try. They were delicious! Go early. Places start closing around 5 here.

This place is huge! We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and it was packed. So crowded that it is difficult to walk. We enjoyed selecting different seafood from the stalls and eating it fresh. We tried eel, squid, and shrimp. There are lots of stores for shopping.

Great market that isn’t as busy as Osaka and Tokyo’s equivalent. Had Kobe beef skewers here for the first time and that was great. We tried so much different food and everything was great and fresh. Some stores do seem like tourist trap and overpriced, but overall it had a way more relaxed atmosphere and it’s easier to just stop and try things. Definitely worth a visit.

My favorite food market but can get super crowded. Find the spot where they have standing tables against the grilled seafood stands. Broiled crab and fresh oysters were my favorite.

A definite must visit when in Kyoto. Don't let the crowds turn you off, there are lots of hidden gems to be found here. It is a great place to get your tummy full with street food and drinks. There are a lot of options from savory to sweet, cheap to expensive. There is also a section of the market for trinkets and souvenirs.

Superb food market. Make sure you find the food court to the western end. Lovely place to stop for a beer and some seafood. Can eat in with a table.

Worth visiting specially if you love seafood. Came to visit around 5:30pm, it wasn't crowded anymore. So for me it's the best time to go. The food were all pretty good!

Bustling market with a huge number of businesses. You can find souvenir stores, snack shops, restaurants and cafes.
There is an area with small stalls where you can taste sake and try super fresh fish. There we ate takoyaki, gyozas and battered crab legs.
The atmosphere is nice if you don't go there during rush hour.

One of the largest open food markets in Kyoto, packed with crowds at all times. You'll find yourself squeezing through each of the stalls. Food is moderately priced and you'll need to queue for their food. Remember to finish up your food before getting going , as walking while eating is not allowed. A variety of food can be found.

Amazing food, fantastic shops if your looking to buy cubs, plates, mugs, household items, ornament to remember your trip, and Japanese kitchen knives, which look amazing! Very busy! I went at 3pm, which was not ideal. Best to attend early in the morning or later in the afternoon. If you like to take lots of photos of the great food you’ve bough, this is a great place for you. And the food is really good. Very much comment the baby octopus stuffed with a soft boiled quail’s egg. And the scallops on a stick are fantastic!

So much fooood! My favorite was the Kobe and wagyu on a stick, scallop butter soy sauce, rice triangle (theirs a seating area and it’s upstairs, so comfortable and aesthetically pleasing)

This place surprise me in all the aspects, is a nice place to taste street Japanese food and sake. There are a lot of stores with many souvenirs and you can buy a kimono at 1 yen/g. In addition, there is a museum of ninjas and samurais, I didn't see this attraction because I didn't buy the tickets in advance.

This Market is the place to go if you're looking for a wide variety of affordable street food to find! While crowded, especially in the evening, everything is quickly accessible and the food comes out relatively fast. Most everything on the menus is written in English for foreigners, and there is lots of seating available, since it is preferred for customers to not walk and eat at the same time! The food is unique, too, from beef sushi to a quail egg wrapped in an octopus, it's all delicious and fun to try!

Wide range of food, drinks and souvenirs selections especially the Snoopy store. If you are into sake and seafood/beef, this place is a MUST-GO for you for Kyoto.

However the walkway is relatively small so compare to some other markets so be ready for a squeeze at times.

You can complaint about the crowd all you want. I had a great time eating, sightseeing, embracing the vibrant atmosphere and even grab some nice winter wear plus souvenirs. One trip is not enough, I will be back!
