Kyoto Station Building is beautiful as well as functional. Packed with restaurants and shops, there is plenty to do while waiting for your train. The structure itself is an architectural marvel and you are encouraged to explore it. The view from the upper gantry allows you to see the City of Kyoto towards the west, including Kyoto Tower and numerous Temples. Highly recommend allowing yourself enough time to see it all.

There is usually a free art show when I visit the light-up stairs near the top floor. There are many places to eat, but secure a seat/reservation at one before meal-time rush times (if possible). There are restrooms (though they may be hard to find) and many souvenir shops. There are also many beautiful views inside and outside for photo opportunities. I highly recommend taking a stop here on your journey through Kyoto.

Beautiful architectural train station in Kyoto. Worth to spend a few minutes visiting. 10 and 11th floors are food courts. Ramen on the 10th.

It's a massive station. WiFi is available and washrooms are very clean and accessible. There is a small mall there and so many restaurants. The transportation is super on time and the staff are super friendly and helpful. You could find everything in English and Japanese so it is very easy to commute. I do highly recommend downloading the app for the rails to make your life much easier.
Make sure to follow the rules and hold to the left side when you are taking the stairs :). Everything is marked on the floor.
Keep in mind, the triangle 📐 means it's a rapid train when it's noted on the lines on the floor.

Excellent train station with lots of good stores for convenience. It is architecturally pleasing as well. Excellent train connections to other key cities like Tokyo, Osaka, etc.

The design is awesome. Lots of F&B outlets and a huge Isetan.

Well worth the visit.

This place is huge. One the bigger stations I've seen in my life. Not to mention in Japan. Do not underestimate it! It is 11 floors of shops, restaurants and stations. Had a pleasant experience with in staff in the shops with the limited Japanese I knew and still was helped out with the greatest care. I would highly recommend getting here early to visit the shops. There are so many sweets on the basement floor, too! Must have experience. There are also so many great views of the city from here! They have a small garden space on the top floor where there is a fantastic view of Kyoto!

Big place and too many people. The luggage lockers were so many but still not enough.

Kyoto Station is one of the best stations in Japan in terms of scale and navigability. I much prefer its open space planning that Tokyo Station.
The Central building is very picturesque. On the western wing is the Great Stairway lined with LED lights that constantly has a light show. The escalators go up to the 15th floor towards the rooftop garden. The small garden has benches where you can relax and enjoy the open-air view. The windows offer a great vantage point viewing the southern and northern parts of Kyoto.
At the ground floor, there is an array of IC card machines where you can buy and reload ICOCA cards. There is also a large map showing all the train lines going to and from the station.
Kyoto Station is also the best place to take pictures of Kyoto Tower.

Fabulous. Soooooo much going on there. My son was jealous that I got to go back there. Practically nothing you can't buy and a real experience in itself. Massive shopping centre and massive station. Great food there, lots of clothing and goods and even a supermarket for everyday shopping. Some real hidden gems too for eating food and relaxing. On my way back now and looking forward to it

Photographers would not be bored if visited here. There are various purposes to drop here in, big scale and sophisticated modern designing of Kyoto St. will be good to visit as any reason. Photographers will have good enough time to be fulfilled. Food and drink are too much to choose and good enough to spending time. Kyoto St. is the concentrated terminal, so the way go back home is up to you any way you want.

Honestly a cool station with the long escalators, sky way, light show on the stairs, malls, garden on the roof, public piano, etc. It's easy to kill time here waiting for transit.

This facility is a wonder to behold. There are mysteries, restaurants, and shopping opportunities around every corner. I explored for hours, and I am still sure there are many things I missed. The giant stairs and labyrinth through the building is fascinating. One of my favorite finds was the giant Lego Kyoto Station building, plus I enjoyed the restaurant near it, Collet.

Don't miss the adventure because you're too rushed to catch a train. This place is worth the time.

Beautiful architecture. Visit during the daytime and nighttime for a different view. The Skyway is definitely worth a visit during night!

Cool and spacious train station full of conveniences all around like quick bite udon/ don stores to 7/11 and lots of locker along the way to the trains. After exiting the train station you'd be greeted by a giant discrete looking shopping area on the right and left of your exiting road (still inside the station all of this). Until you exit the when station overall, where you'd find more restaurants, Kyoto tower and taxi areas (note: they have a tourist waiting area for taxi who understands simple English, but we waited there for 15 mins or more but none ever came and all the taxis went to the non tourist places so we ended up going there too).

It's huge! An architectural marvel. Aside from it being one of the major public transit hubs in Japan, it's also home to many attractions such as the Skywalk, the JR Kyoto Isetan, a multi-level shopping mall, countless restaurants on each level, and the Granvia hotel. Love this station.

This station has become a hub for our stay during the week in Kyoto. We have made many mistakes and learned a lot about using the rail system in Japan. Loved every moment though, you could almost stay on trains and just travel between stations, they have everything you need.
