The Tea Crane (Tea Ceremony Kyoto)

One of the very few shops in Japan specialized in premium pesticide-free, single cultivar Japanese teas. The owner speaks several languages and is passionate about explaining the teas on sale and their stories, so visiting the shop is really educational and fun. Tea Ceremony and and tea tastings are also available.

The perfect location, just across the street from the Imperial Palace, if you are looking for organically grow teas in Kyoto this is the place. The shop is well designed and you can see the thought and intention that went into everything. Great tea, great atmosphere, and great conversation if Tyas is there and has a free moment. Definitely worth checking out!

English, French, Dutch, Japanese spoken, a very well designed traditional tea shop, 4. Good atmosphere and conversation (call to confirm when Tyas may be there), 5. Across the step from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Try to coordinate a tea ceremony or class.

Even though I've never been to the shop, I've purchased the tea from its website. The tea is wonderful. Everything about it is great; packaging, brochures, services, customer service, etc. I also subscribe to Tyas Sōsen's YouTube channel and learn a lot from his videos. I extremely recommend this shop for purchasing matcha and ocha. The quality and prices are all worth every penny. They're also perfect for gifts since the packaging is attractive.

One of few places to find really organic Japanese tea. Owner being a westerner, makes it an opportunity for English/French speaking traveller's to not just purchase tea but to get to know a bit more about the whole tea culture.
