Absolutely loved Hotel Bonfire. Comfortable and cosy rooms. Great location next to Happo One Gondola, many food options and ski hire. It has an onsen (inside and outside) which was wonderful after each tough day of skiing. Best of all was the staff/customer service. They responded quickly, addressed any concerns/queries we had and picked us up in their shuttle.

Will definitely stay again

Great location right next to the gondola, no beds though, traditional Japanese bed in laying on the floor, good onsen 🙏

Very good location (right next to the Gondola). If you are a keen skier or snowboarder who don't care about good foods or fancy accommodations , only focusing on skiing all day long, I guess this hotel is reasonable.
I expected the hot spring here but the hours available for it is too short (only four hours like 4:30 - 8:30 pm).

Breakfast is very simple but no eggs. If you need more energy for good start of the day or just being bored of the simple one, I recommend the one which is served at Recovery Bar right down the slope in front of the hotel. You can eat a couple of toasts, scrambled egg, fried bacon with hashed potatoes.

Great location and clean. Close to everything. That's about all.
WiFi week, no bar can't understand why they advertise it has one, breakfast is basic, driveway very step, sauna isn't working.
Keep looking don't bother staying.
Just been 2018

At over $400/night we would've expected a lot more. The breakfasts in particular were an embarrament, disgusting prepacked stodge, incredible the owners still serve this despite many guests leaving theirs mostly untouched. So we and others brought our own to the dining room. The very small rooms are to be expected, as the location is perfect, right next to the Happoone gondola. Staff are pleasant of course. The onsen is very good.

The only 2 good things about this hotel are 1) location; and 2) friendly - but sadly not terribly effective - staff.

Arrival to the hotel is up a very steep driveway which is never icy nor covered in snow because there is an odd hot water sprinkler system built into it. Nice in theory, but practically what it means is that the whole driveway turns into a steaming waterfall and unless you're wearing waterproof foot wear, your feet are going to get very wet.
Management is clearly aware of this shortcoming because the first thing to greet you when you enter the front door is a sign telling you that no street shoes are allowed in the hotel, together with instructions for where to store your wet boots and a strategically located rack of communal slippers.

There is no central heating, so when you get back from a hard day's skiing your room will be very cold. There are only electric heaters so you can warm the room up, but you'll wake up several times a night because the air is too dry and the room too hot (even at the lowest setting).

The beds are horrifically uncomfortable. The pillows are so lithe I think they must have economised by purchasing half the amount of pillows needed and sliced them in half. Cunning, but you can't fool me.

There is no kettle in the room, you have to share it with other rooms on your floor (don't forget to put it back). There are no cups or glasses in the room either so not sure what the kettle's for anyway.

'breakfast' is a joke. I think they must budget about JPY100 per person on this - that is real ketchup on the 'pizza' BTW.

Check out time at this hotel is 10am. Most of the rest of Japan has the annoying habit of kicking you out of your room at 11am instead of the far more reasonable 12:00 that the rest of the world seems to be able to operate their hotels around, so I took issue with this 10am business. Negotiations to secure a late checkout at 11am failed miserably without even the possibility to pay for a late checkout. Further investigations revealed that this is because there are only 2 people working at the hotel and they do everything between them (check guests in, clean rooms, make pizza for breakfast, entertain my annoying complaints and write cryptic signs in Engrish).

To conclude, I won't be coming back. I didn't see any hotels that looked any better either to be fair. There was a really cool looking traditional Ryokan called Marushi that I'd be up for trying. Other than that, AirBnB would be the best bet.

Friendly and helpful owner but is not a hotel it's more like a hostel. The breakfast was so bad that it's almost funny.
