I really enjoyed my 5 night stay at this resort. The service and hospitality was amazing. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They have free snacks and wine and light meals that are on offer at certain times of the day. There is also always free apple juice and water in the lobby. It’s a beautiful resort only 5 minutes by shuttle bus to Tsugaike Ski Resort. They also have a ski hire shop at the resort and provide ski gear lockers that are assigned by room number. The rooms are very big and spacious for Japan and I had a beautiful view of the snowy scenery. The food in the French restaurant was exceptional and they have a very good breakfast buffet with a variety of different Western and Japanese breakfast options. I would love to stay here again if I come back to Hakuba thank you Sierra Resort for the amazing stay and great hospitality.

Rooms: We had the Executive Suite which had a living room and bedroom and a tub on the balcony too facing the courtyard. It was spacious for a family of 4. I think the living room had two sofa couches, but because we have little kids we didn't use it. It was on the East wing which seems like the larger rooms on that side. Everything was clean and in good condition. There was an air room filter and heat control. Also heated floors in the bathroom sink area which we used to dry our snow clothes and gloves. Our toilet had a lid which opened automatically and flushed automatically. The best toilet!

At least in my wing of the building it was quiet. I hardly heard any noise outside, through the walls or outside my door. I think I didn't visit during a busy time, but non-the-less the rooms seem pretty sound proof.

They refresh your room everyday and replace the water bottles, towels, toiletries and yukata. I saw staff cleaning the outside of room windows so it seems they work hard to keep the rooms clean.

The hotel's general appearance is older and some things like the hallway carpet needs updating. Also the private onsens don't have a bathing area and that needed repair. The public onsen is nicer than the private ones.

Service: All the staff is nice and helpful if you ask questions. The staff at the breakfast buffet are a bit sleepy and the younger generation, but hey. . .I'd be like that too if I had to wake up early and work late. I think the staff were the same ones during dinner. So they must have some kind of split shift.

The country has a more laid back feel, so unlike in Tokyo where they have a lot of staff meandering around, the staff here are more in the background. Of course if you need something, they are always around to ask questions and there are always people at the front desk to welcome incoming people.

Location: Its not easy to get to and from the ski hills if you're using all the different shuttle busses. The hotel won't take you to the ski areas, so if you don't have a car you will need to study the shuttle schedule carefully as most busses don't go by Sierra resort as often as other areas.

Extra's: The hot food they have available at the entrance was useful if you're starving from a day of skiing. Rice, miso soup (they made a difference one each day), green curry, and raw egg, was really yummy. The appetizers during the afternoon were just so so.

ONSEN: Awesome natural setting!! So pretty and peaceful sitting outside with the view. Also when you're done they have a fridge full of milk coffee, and assorted ice creams and popsicles. My kids enjoyed that!

Breakfast: Excellent! Good selection of Japanese dishes. Not too much western breakfast selection, but who would want to eat that in Japan anyway? The coffee was really good too!

English: Most speak english, so in general you don't need to worry about communication issues.

Kid friendly!

French Restaurant: Food was good. I couldn't enjoy it too much since our kids were 1/2 asleep. If you drink wine, you'd probably enjoy the dinner. Its only 8800 yen so I think its a great deal for a set dinner at the hotel.

Chinese Restaurant: Also very good and I prefered this one. You get more food and its served family style. Again, kids were half asleep so we had to quickly eat. If you have an asian palette I think you'd find this more tasty than French food. Nothing was spicy however, but I don't care for spicy foods. Also only 8800 yen per adult. . . unless you included it in your room price.

Wonderful hotel and exactly what I was looking for. Everything very functional and well maintained and classic instead of new design. But the best is actually the staff which is very well trained and all very helpful and friendly. Will definitely go back to this place.

In terms of location wise it is not the best coz it is on the hill and not close to town if you want to enjoy a bit of night life in village.
However room is big with great view / fabulous services / different onsen options / offering afternoon and night snacks to guests. Will recommend to friends :)

Located in a woods in the Hakuba valley. Great ski resort with ski rental, shuttle bus services to train station and bus terminal. It is a stop for hakuba valley bus which is good for accessing the major ski slopes. There is always free food and drinks. The onsen is superb. The staff are nice too.

I stayed here for a week while skiing and it is amazing! The onsen are amazing, there’s both public and private options which is great. The breakfast in the morning is also delicious with so many options. One of my favourite things is there’s free food outside for when you come back from a day of skiing. There’s hot miso soup, curry, dumplings and more, it’s the best thing to come back to. There’s also lots of stuff to do here like darts, pool and there’s toys like sleds/snowball making things for you to use. The staff are also amazing (thank you to Tan especially for all her help). Definitely recommend staying here and it’s so close to heaps of ski resorts, one of the best places I’ve ever stayed!!

This was our 3rd stay at the Sierra Resort Hotel we love it.
The fact that it is quietly nestled in a forest setting, made out of timber and has private and public onsens, are our favourite things. All the staff from front of house, housekeeping, and restaurant team do everything to make your stay as easy and memorable as possible. we will be back again.

Amazing place to stay and enjoy your break in winter. The resort staffs are very polite and helpful and will try to make your stay comfortable. The restaurant offers very good buffet breakfast and also very tasty food during dinner. The hotel lobby has a fantastic view of the field which is covered by snow and you can spend your entire day in the lobby if you feel lazy as they serve all day food & drinks there. The rooms are also very spacious and clean. The rooms also have very nice view. All in all, a great place to stay in Hakuba during winter.

I absolutely love this resort. I enjoy the views and all the amenities that this resort/hotel has to offer. I cannot wait to come back outside of the winter season to see what Hakuba offers in Summer/Fall. Absolutely family friendly. Amazing staff and great rooms.
On site onsens are amazing and located with great views. Shuttle service to the mountains is amazing as well as in site rental gear from the hotel. It's everything you need.

Excellent hotel. Great service, extremely helpful and friendly staff, and many convenient transport options provided to the slopes or in to town. The amenities were extremely high quality, most notably the private and public onsen. Would highly recommend staying at Sierra Resort.

This is a fantastic low key hotel. Great service especially the free flow wine in the lounge and the free flow hot food out front (oden, green curry, miso soup etc.). Warms you up nicely apres ski. It is outside of town but they offer a free shuttle service to take you for dinner in the evening. Kids love being able to play in the snow and sledding in the inner courtyard. Could not say more good things about this hotel.

The only flaw is the location, the shuttle is not very frequent.

My husband and I visited on a long weekend in early July and we absolutely loved our stay here. We accidentally booked a double twin room online, and when we realized this the staff seriously went above and beyond to accommodate us so we could get a full bed. They were so incredibly welcoming and friendly that we felt right at home. The amenities at this resort are also amazing: 4 private onsens, 1 public onsen, an outdoor pool, game room, lots of places to lounge, complimentary breakfast buffet, snacks, and drinks (including wine!), and beautiful grounds to explore. The restaurant serves delicious meals if you don’t want to eat out and there are so many options to choose from at the breakfast buffet. Even though it was still rainy season when we visited, we had a great time exploring the town, hiking, and ending each day relaxing at a private onsen. The rain actually made the resort all the more cozy and romantic! Thank you all for a fantastic and memorable experience in Hakuba. We’re looking forward to coming back in the winter!

Our absolute FAVORITE place to stay in Hakuba. GREAT staff, shuttle bus for dinner runs and to the mountain. Gear rental and tuning on site, large gathering areas for groups. Great public and private onsens. Phenomenal free lunch on the porch, great location on the shuttle route and all around fantastic place to stay.

Very classy place. Hot spring is excellent. 1,000 Yen for non hotel residents. Nice restaurant. Things may have changed a bit since our last visit and due to COVID-19. Onsen time is currently 1-5 pm for noon residents. Restaurant required booking. Reception staff needs more training and be more polite and positive.
