Kyoto Porta

One of the best shopping and dining experiences under Kyoto Station. Plenty of shop outlets and sections of dining experience is clearly divided so you won't miss it. All food are fairly priced. Most famous outlets will require to be queued. Be sure to avoid peak hours if possible. Convenient place to drop by and spend your time while waiting your journey ahead.

So many options here for both dining and shopping. It was nice to walk around as we waited for our next mode of transportation.

Extremely busy place with lots of food and retail outlets. This underground shopping mall has walkways that connect to the Kyoto train station and to many other shopping malls, food courts, etc. Hence, there is endless human traffic and long queues outside shops.

The area is extremely safe. I don't know what the patrolling security robots do. It is however easy to get lost because of the extensive network of walkways.

But ordinary Japanese and staff of JR Train are very helpful. They will show you the direction, even though they speak only Japanese. Just ask politely with the usual Japanese bow to say thank you. There are also helpful information counters where staff speak English and some other languages.

Plenty of Japan high standards of clean toilets around. Menus on restaurants have English versions. In some restaurants, they even have French, Arabic, Spanish etc translations.

Very surprised to find a whole shopping mall inside the train station. Many shops, massive food court, great place to visit.

Subway station with many good food options. Look around you're surely not going to be disappointed in your choice of food. Don't hesitate to come!

Kyoto Porta is a shopping mall with a bunch of retail outlets and dining restaurants/takeaway places. It's connected to Kyoto Station, so it's easy to get to from the train. A host of food options, with some well rated restaurants. If you're in the area, worth the walk through. They don't stay open late, so make sure to check hours before visiting late in the evenings.

A very classy shopping mall with both international and local brand labels, and a very very wide choice of restaurants and coffee shops. Very convenient for a visitor to shop, fine dine , take away, grocery shopping and store luggage. Very clean public toilets and the efficiency of the staff us remarkable!

Decent amount of restaurants if you're hungry. Shops are plenty. There is a lot of space to walk around with ease. Good place to cool down if you're visiting Kyoto during the hot season.

Great food restaurants, grocery store in the basement t of Yodabashi, my hotel was awesome Daiwa Roynet with great access underground and subway access.

Lots of options to choose from. We sat in for noodles which were great. Takeaway options looked great, from bento boxes to French bakeries.

Well signed posted and toilets as is expected in Japan. Handy place to go for food before/after getting a train/metro.

Loved the Wabiske Restaurant (basement of Porta, Kyoto Main Station) that serves the Chicken Tonteki Nanban set meal.
Staff is cheerful and efficient.

Great food and gifts! Loved it! If you are looking for a place in Kyoto to get something to eat or a gift before boarding a bus or train this is a great place. Located steps away from the exit in Kyoto station it's a great place to get a bite to eat before your adventure into Kyoto or post adventure.

A very big shopping area inside the train station. We spent half a day shopping here. Many good stores and restaurants are there and it is right under the train station which makes it so convenient.

Try to go early as most shops close at 8:00 pm. Some restaurants open till 9:00 or 9:30 pm.

Shopping centre with plenty of retail outlets, but if you are visiting Kyoto, had a late start, and exiting Kyoto Station, grab lunch here (so many good restaurants to choose from at very reasonable prices) before heading out into Kyoto proper...

Nice place, a lot of good products and good food

Delicious taste and good view, though a bit pricey.

Located under Kyoto Station. Easy to navigate with their floor map. Many food choice, best for a lost night with no idea of where to eat.

Cons: some are supper crowded and need to wait in line
